Robot Chicken; Optimus Prime & Prostate Cancer

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Robot Chicken; Optimus Prime & Prostate Cancer

Post by Redstreak » Mon Feb 21, 2005 4:57 am

Doesn't make any sense, does it?

For those who aren't aware, Cartoon Network launched a new show this evening not unlike Toyfare's comic Twisted Mego Theatre...it's called Robot Chicken. Features action figures in situations they would normally not be in. Like Optimus Prime having to go to the bathroom a lot and Ratchet discovering he has prostate cancer, while Prowl makes like Biff Tannen and can't get jokes right. Then Prime dies in a hospital bed and when he does he transforms into a coffin, lol.

After that it turns out to be a "public service announcement" with Prime talking about the moral of the story.

The show runs about the length of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, but it was pretty funny, I thought. Anyone catch it?

Better yet, did any of that make any sense? :o

The drug PSA was probably the best part, though the Cylon falling on the daggit (or whatever it is...the dog thing from Battlestar Galactica) was pretty satisfying.

I was working, but I always watch Adult Swim and will make it a point to catch it on a rerun.

It was alright. Ig uess I was expecting better but it wasn't as good as it could have been. Its only the first episode though so I think it will be better. But it was an interesting use of Transformers if anything. The bloopers part of the show was probably the best overall.

Okay, I saw it. Agree with PB, for the most part. Two questions though:

So is the Transformers part going to be a recurring part of the show, a la Aeon Flux on Liquid Television, or was that a one time thing?

What sort of figures were they using at the start when Jazz, Prowl, Optimus, and I think someone else were looking down from the cliff? Robot Masters? They weren't Alternators, and they weren't G1, but they were all covered with a hell of a lot of epoxy and modeling stuff except for Optimus. Speaking of, were Ironhide and Ratchet G1s kitbashed into looking like the cartoon incarnations? Sure looked like that to me.

My guess would be that they'll show up from time to time (in one fashion or another), but it won't be a regular thing.

O.P., Starscream, and (I think) Mirage were RM. The others were custom made.

I don't think the Transformers will be a reaccuring thing. From what I saw in the previews there will be He Man segments and Frankenberry, Count Chocula and Boo Berry jokes..something that spoofs Kill Bill etc. I think it will just be random stuff every week with 80's toys used in variuos ways.

But I think Prowl was actualy a reissue Prowl while Bumblebee, Ironhide, Ratchet and Arcee were kitbashed versions of the toys. Starscream was the RM version as was Optimus.

I hope to see better in the future but for a pilot it has potential if this is all done right. I really think they could have done better then Prostate Cancer. I dont' know. It just wasn't as funny as it wanted to be. Hopefuly we haven't seen the last of the Transformers toys in the series and hopefuly they do better next time. Ill give it some more shots though. I think this could work if they test teh waters and see what was good and what wasn't.

Yeah, it's like even when they're trying to be funny, Optimus Prime is STILL having problems with his "Creation Matrix" and ends up dying.
