Gah! Spoilers in the Stephen-King-Does-Not-Agree sense. Not so much the death itself, but to the culprit.
Of course, what you've said could be written off as conjecture and theory in the name of Princess Bride Quoting. But when I binge watched Game of Thrones recently, I read this thread. So I knew that Joffrey's wedding was coming, and knew it was significant, but didn't know exactly why. And more importantly, for the purposes of this story, I knew that Brend has read the books. So knowing that Brend read the books makes Brend's comment more perceptive than it should normally read.
I guess you can say I went and spoiled all over myself. And I need a napkin.
And anyway, that's who I thought it was the whole time!

I wasn't being spoilery, I was riffing off Oberyn's general resemblance to Inigo Montoya.
His sister died in previously exposited backstory. It's the whole reason he's in it. He ain't killing nobody yet (if at all, ooh drama)

Ah. My interpretation was that you were discussing motive in the context of the recent murder. So then I have NOT been spoiled as to the murderer's identity. I still think it's Oberyn. My wife leans toward Old Lady Tyrell, but wouldn't that only complicate the Tyrell's attempts to get all up in the throne succession? On the other hand, she IS sitting awfully close to the wine glass when he goes to cut the cake....
Do...not...look...at...spoilery....Internet.... You would think I'd have already learned my lesson on my first dip-toe-in-GoT-wiki foray, when I was perusing and accidentally ran into a Stoneheart....

Yeah, the recently-departed wasn't even alive when Clegane killed Oberyn's sister on Tywin's orders. No mileage in him doing it from a revenge perspective. He's a more direct character.
And as far as the murderer goes, who's to say it was even anybody at the table? (well, other than people who know and may or may not be half-arsedly attempting subterfuge)

I am just not enjoying this season. Can't quite put my finger on why. I think it's just going too far off from the books, and trying too hard to stretch out the second half of Book Three.

"I demand trial by combat" in about sixteen episodes we might actually get to see the actual combat (but probably not).
"Hodor! Hodor... HODOR!! ...HoooOooooodoooOoooor". Hodor?! [composite word including 'f*ck'] off Hodor.
"I've got some massive ******* dragons that can conquer the world" eighteen seasons later the dragons have killed a total of like five dudes and a couple of goats.
"Oh ****! White ************** zombies!" I saw more zombies at the pub last Friday than I've seen in the last couple of hundred episodes of GoT.
This whole ******* thing would fall apart if it wasn't for Peter Dinklage and his awesomeness. He's the only reason I keep coming back every sunday/monday.

Re: Game of Thrones (Not For Prudes/Boobies are bad mmkay?)
Pacing's a bit off this season. By the time you've cut out the extraneous plot threads and George RR's incredible wordiness, you probably could do all of Storm in about 15 episodes. But no, they decided on 20, so here we are.
Plus you can't just cut away from Theon and Davos and Stannis for a full year then have them reappear in THE DRAMATIC FASHION so we've got to pad along with all that jazz.
This week's episode much better though. With that brought forward in the narrative then hopefully we'll also get Jaqen again this season, to help ease us into next season's new locations a bit better.

Apparently GRRM very deliberately referenced the Inigo Montoya scene (obviously with a different outcome).Brendocon wrote:HELLO! MY NAME IS OBERYN MARTELL! YOU KILLED MY SISTER! PREPARE TO DIE!

My favorite sequence in the books.
Pretty damn good rendition of it.
Also, next week we're supposed to get another "Blackwater"-style episode of all battle at the Wall, all the Watch, all the time.

So... okay, I can't say much without spoiling the books. But that was a lot of battle-scene-porn that left out all the more interesting stuff, which comes later.

Well...
Um...
There's...
You see...
So...that was...even better than in the book, yes? That's not a controversial statement?

Am I allowed to say that I was seriously disappointed by the dialogue that was cut from Tyrion's escape scenes?
I can get away with saying that much, right?
Everything else was good though.

Not to mention the Jon B plot that was pushed to next season.
But barring the backstory that was chopped out, Dinklage and Dance and Kakelli were all bril. I don't know why the actors playing the Starks are such a mixed bag (never liked Jon Snow or Robb in the show) but every one of the Lannisters owns their part.

Ow can thee not like Jon Sner? Ee's proper Yorkshire lad.
Ok he's not he's a posh drama kid putting on an accent but still. YORKSHIRE.
I actually kinda like the omissions from Tyrion's exit - that scene never sat right with me - what Jamie thinks of him matters to Tyrion in my mind.
Brian vs the Hound was... unexpected (unless my memory is getting really bad)
Crammed a lot in, did it well i thought. Kinda expected it to finish on a more cold hearted note tho...
