I'm not denying that there's a strain of "Whee, we're progressive" thought, but what I'm saying is that the "I'm not voting for a 'Black Muslim President'" people WAY outnumber them.
That may be true, but the fact that its come down to that is proof itself that the issue was blown out of proportion by both sides.
But I don't think he uses them, they're used upon him. The Obama campaign's stance is that they're supporting a biracial guy who has been a lifelong Christian. If the media and the common man need to catagorize him based upon his skin color and last name, that's certainly not Obama's fault.
He may not be directly using them as a promotional tool, it really seems as though hes tried to defer from that point of view. Im not quite convinced that his supporters and the other Democratic party member arent. My entire point is that he shouldnt be judged or categorized by his race/religion. The media has been questioning since day 1 if America is ready for a 'Black President with a Muslim background'.
I really think that we need the change Obama is supporting, but I really dont think that he has the ability to do it. Especially if the House and Senate remain divided on basic issues that would make life better for millions of Americans.
I know, but this is our best chance for the system to do something:
President (Obama) that draws support from both sides of the aisle? Check.
Post Baby Boomer President not wrapped up in cultural wars that began in the 60s?
Check.
Cultural Climate where the American people are open to(and in fact need) serious reform and change?
Check.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY....
The Democratic Party could control all of Congress and the Presidency, and could even possibly get a fillabuster proof 60 seats in the Senate.
That's not even mentioning Supreme Court nominations coming up.
And I don't mean the political system. My personal opinion is that if America is a building, I would suggest we just demolish it and build it again better using many of the same materials and ideas. But at this point, all we have is one political system, and Obama will make it work for us more so than McCain.
The way the polls are looking at this point, I really hope you're right. Our Generation is in the middle of a giant s**t-storm. We have even more national debt to contend with as well as the looming issue of the retiring Baby Boomers. If he can REALLY fix these things, then I'll be amazed. We'll just have to see.

Uh, he's Protestant, dude.
This I know, the point I was making was that Obama has been portrayed through the media as Black Muslim (or with Muslim ties). My mistake for the lack of " " around it.
