The Dark Knight (now with spoilers!)

I saw it in Bath Odeon opening Friday - all the staff were dressed up. Everybody had Joker makeup, with the exception of a couple dressed as Batman and Batgirl.
The manager was just suited, though. When questioned by a punter he replied that he was Commissioner Gordon.
No fans in costume though. Mercifully. The amount of chavs about, they likely would have been stabbed.

Saw it, thought it was great.
But come on, over $400 million great?
I mean, yeah, it's probably the best superhero flick ever (though I enjoyed the original Superman, Superman II, and The Crow more), but it's not as great as it's been made out to be.
Didn't like the turning of Harvey Dent. One minute, he's saving Gotham. The next, he's.....shooting children? Come on, even the Joker wouldn't stoop that low.
Other than that, thought it was excellent.

Well, I didn't think Titanic was $600 million dollar great, but that's why there's critical appeal and commerical appeal.Yaya wrote:Saw it, thought it was great.

Batman Begins being bad ass + Superhero movies being dominant this summer + Buzz over Ledger's Joker + Ledger's Death + Cynical Times and a Cynical Movie + People looking for cheap entertainment in lieu of vacations in these crappy economic times = $$$$$$$$$$

IMHO, it was the best Batman Movie. Ever.
I'm debating a lot with some guys who prefer the Burtonverse, but frankly, this interpretation is what Batman should really be. As many people described, perhaps the most interesting is that this version of Batman could easily fit into today's world. You can imagine him as real as any person...
The dialogue was awesome. My favourites were especially when the Joker was 'visiting' Harvey at the hospital and explaining him what the nature of chaos is...
Joker was just like he should have always been (must say I never liked Nicholson's version) - totally unpredictable, deeply evil, and yet also a genius. Loved the part where he phones into the TV show to tell the people to kill the guy trying to unmask Batman...
The scene where Two-face flips the coin for everyone (himself included) was incredible. I'm sad he's dead (btw, Batman did not let the Joker fall, but he did push Harvey off a building? WTF?) - he could have been shown in Arkham. Eckhart gave a great performance. People always cite Year One and the Long Halloween as inspirations, forgetting that Batman TAS also made Two-Face a quite special enemy long before these when making Harvey a close friend of Bruce Wayne. DK's Two-Face was the first new version that could top TAS's version of Dent. And Eckhart wasn't kidding, the mask was indeed ghastly...
There were also some pretty funny lines - not only the Joker's (though his retellings of how he got his scars were typical Joker lies) - when Bruce tells Alfred "Accomplice? I'm gonna tell the cops the whole thing was your idea" and when Gordon thanks Bruce for saving Reese's life.
I wonder what'll be for the next movie... With Batsy as an outcast hunted by cops, it'd be a great opportunity to bring in Harvey Bullock as the dirty but honest cop hunting for the vigilante. Heck, maybe Bane'd work for a villain, hired by the mob to take Batman out.
I wonder if Ra's was planned to make a comeback in the third movie - being a skilled ninja he could have escaped the train before it blew up.
One unclear thing for me... Gordon says Two-face killed 5 people. But we only see him kill the corrupt cop, and the mob boss' driver. He let Ramirez live because the coin came up heads. Who were the others?

"I've come to believe you are working for the enemy, Vervain. There is no other explanation... for your idiocy." (General Woundwort)
That's the perfect summation of why we're seeing this become a phenom.Shanti418 wrote: Batman Begins being bad ass + Superhero movies being dominant this summer + Buzz over Ledger's Joker + Ledger's Death + Cynical Times and a Cynical Movie + People looking for cheap entertainment in lieu of vacations in these crappy economic times = $$$$$$$$$$
I would say Heath Ledger's death is probably the biggest influence amongst those.

I'm in the same situation, except I'm debating with my mom who says the Burton Batman is better than the Nolan Batman even though she's only seen the first quarter of Batman Begins.BB Shockwave wrote:I'm debating a lot with some guys who prefer the Burtonverse, but frankly, this interpretation is what Batman should really be.
She also says she won't go see The Dark Knight because Jack's Joker is better than Ledger's Joker, even though she hasn't seen Ledger's Joker in action because she hasn't seen The Dark Knight.
Somewhere, Shockwave and Spock are crying.

I wasn't sure who the five Two-Face killed were, either.
On the Burtonverse: I think Nicholson and Ledger both did equally brilliant jobs. The difference is in the directors. Tim Burton is unable to make a movie that doesn't have THIS IS A TIM BURTON MOVIE SO SEE MY WEIRDNESS stamped all over it. Christopher Nolan does a better job at telling a simple story.
