Has anyone ever dated someone much older than them?

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Why not give her a nice evening at home? :)
A relaxing movie, some nice pillows, a nice cup of tea, some scented candles, etc.

Anyways, museums are always nice and quiet.
Or you can take her to the woods (or a park) and have a picnic.
Can't believe I'm still here.

Scented candles? Early in a reationship (or ever) that's just trying way too hard. That said, the museum type ideas aren't bad. Or you could go to a smaller local temple, those are usually nice and not too crowded, so long as you don't accidentally go to one of those tourist trappy ones. They've often got nice grass areas around them you can sit and eat. mind you, its around hanami time so it might be a little busier. Or you could take her to a love hotel ;) (sorry) seriously though, if the blossom's out in your area a small ocal park is a great idea. I have no idea how urban or residential your area is though.

Oh, and I'm totally with you on the language barrier stuff. My only problem is people tend to assume you're either completely unable to speak a word, or that you're fluent. Not many people will speak slow and simple for you. Again, its my responsibility, but it would make things easier.

The relaxing evening at home is not an option at the moment. A friend of mine was screwed over by NOVA and has been living at my place for the last 5 and a half months. He'll be moving in another week or so, but for the time being, there's no way to get the place looking nice enough for a visitor. If the seven video game consoles hooked up to one television isn't enough to scare her off, his suitcases overflowing with dirty clothes and video game accessories will.

Temples and shrines are not going to be very quiet for the next week or so. The cherry blossoms are in bloom and absolutely everyone is going to be spending time at every shrine and temple in Southern Japan.

Wuss. ;) Actually, I quite like scented candles at times.

Good point about the temples though. That said, the smaller places around my way never seem to be too busy. How about a park near you which doesn't have any sakura?
