Heath ledger found dead

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Ledger seems to die in most of his films. Even his latest - the unfinished movie with Terry Gilliam (there's already pics from the set of him hanging by a noose on the net).

They're just films.

However, I wonder if The Dark Knight's Joker-centric advertising promotion will continue or if there'll be a rethink.

there's been some chatter speculating there will be a bit of a rethink.

suspect Joker won't actually die - comic book movies seems to have learnt that lesson by and large - no point killing off recurring characters.

And Shanti, I sent you a PM a week or two ago, check it.
Hold on a second. You're saying "Why the hell does anybody bother caring?" when a talented human being who was the father to children dies needlessly, yet you seem to care very dearly about me not reading your PM.

I'm not too lazy to check my PM box. I'm just too lazy to change my sig at the drop of a hat when I've got other crap to do.

If anyone is interested, FOR THE RECORD, it seems as though Ronald Reagan did not say my quote. This misconception is based upon the Internet Telephone Effect, according to the info Leatherneck gave me.

If I've sullied anyone's glowing opinions of Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, The New Republic, or Good ol' Boy Social Networking, I apologize.
Marginally talented at best. The cause of his death was either intentional or unintentional overdose -- death by suicide or death by stupid don't qualify as sympathy garnering.

Other stuff to do like post on a transformers message board? You'll have to excuse me for doing the fact checking that you didn't...

People always care when random people die. Just look at 9/11 and all the stupid **** people did back then.
Comparing the drug overdose of an actor to the mass murder of nearly 3,000 people is ******* absurd, and you know it. I understand the bulk of people here are uber anti-American, but... seriously? And I'm sure it was for you, but 9/11 wasn't "random" people for me and the people around me.

Is any of this even slightly necessary?

We've now got two people trying to settle personal scores publicly; I'd suggest that's part of what the private message system is there for.

I wasn't being "anti-american". I was just pointing out (very bluntly) that people care about different stuff.
After 9/11 I participated in a moment of silence (mostly because I was forced), and then it was business as usual.
You on the other hand cared a lot about it (and still do I imagine).

Heath Ledger's death sort of affected me. I thought he was a cool dude and I'd like to see what movies he'd do in the future.
You on the other hand don't seem to care.

Different people, different feelings :)

Sorry if I brought up any bad feelings though. Lets just leave this behind.
Can't believe I'm still here.

Apparently in Batman THREE, which they already have scripts for, he plays some sort of ancillary role, like helping Batman find Two Face while in jail, a la Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. But it's obviously at a point where they can still write that out.

A suicidal death to me WOULD elicit sympathy for the kids he left behind.
I really don't see how you can, providing he was "stupid" and took too many pills, seperate it from other stupid deaths, like traffic fatalities that are the driver's fault, people slipping and falling from great heights, etc. etc. Point is, life is life and that sucks.

Yes, other stuff to do like post on a TF board. Because that's clearly what I do all day. I have no problem with your fact checking, and welcome your diligent Internet research you did on behalf of my sig. But for you to get so bent out of shape over me not changing the sig promptly after you wrote me is going a bit too far, IMO, and it makes me want to leave it up there indefinitely just for s***s and giggles, which I would think was NOT the effect you were going for.

So, anyway, back onto the topic:

Heath Ledger found dead.

A sad loss. Not personally a great fan, mainly due to not having watched many of his films due to the overall context of the films not being my cup of tea, rather than a reflection of his acting.

And off-topic:

Aaron Hong harbours paranoid fears about the TransFans in general, or a few members in particular.

No one is out to get you, Aaron. It's just that not everyone shares your particular sense of humour. Just like not everyone shares my particular sense of humour. Just like not everyone shares everyone else's particular senses of humour.

Also, there isn't much people could do to you, even if they wanted to. This is a message board after all, or do you think there is some surreptitious undercurrent that is secretly stealing all your personal information. No, actually. The most that could be done to you here is banning you from posting and the deletion of your account.

Leatherneck is offended by Shanti's signature promoting a falsehood for the purposes of humour and/or his lack of prompt correction.

Quotes are often attributed to people who never spoke/wrote them, for many reasons. "Scotty, Beam Me Up", for example, was never uttered by William Shatner as Captain Kirk in Star Trek.

Leatherneck informed Shanti of the error via PM. Shanti then decided whether or not to correct it. He didn't. Nor, we can infer, did he respond to Leatherneck's PM. Leatherneck should then have continued in the PMs, if necessary. Instead, posting attention to it straight into the middle of a discussion where it had no relevance and no warrant.

Most importantly, however, and this applies to all parties concerned, is that this is a topic about an unexpected death. Show some respect, and keep petty squabbles out of it. Preferably to PMs, rather than invading other board discussions that are a turn-off for existing and prospective members alike. It is de-railments such as this that are totally unnecessary and could eventually make TransFans an embarrassment to other sites.

On the subject of Ledger, I just realized that he will never play Perrin in my made-up Wheel of Time movies in me head.

As [mis]quoted, it's actually "Beam me up, Scotty" :)

I was reading that Heath was on a cocktail of anti-depresents and other such drugs.

Seriously, what [composite word including 'f*ck'] wit doctor prescribes someone who is so depressed with so many drugs in the first place?

"five different bottles of prescription drugs were found around his apartment".

The doctors killed him. How's it even possible to get five different prescription drugs? Do doctors just hand out pills left and right?

Imagine all the non-celebrity deaths that happen because of this.

Very sad news. :( From the previews, I really liked his portrayal of Joker... And his other movie roles were very memorable too.

Let me just insert an appropiate quote from Batman TAS then
HARLEY QUINN: Oh, my poor, poor, puddin'!
HARVEY BULLOCK: Come on! He was a demented, abusive, psychotic maniac.
HARLEY QUINN: Yeah. . . I'm really gonna miss him!!! :(

And his death is also problematic for the sequels of Dark Knight, because...

SPOILERS

I heard in various places that the creators of Batman Begins/Dark Knight said they always thought it was a bad decision in the old Burton movie that they killed off the Joker in the first movie - they planned to have him take a part in the third movie as the main cause for Harvey Dent becoming Two-Face... :(

I wonder if they'll cancel the idea, or give the role to another actor? Hmm, is Mark Hamill too old for the role?

Not if they went with Mark in the first place; the age difference between him and Heath is too staggering for them to consider that.

You know some comedian will consider Jake Gyllenhaal for the role. Although Jake might pull off the creepy psycho bit better (ever seen Donnie Darko?)

Strange... sounds like "Dr Nick" crossed over into reality, from toon-land.. :eyebrow:

You know, I'm wondering, what DOES happen to your body when you have several types of antidepressant in you? Your heart starts to go slower or something?

How does it actually kill you? Liver-failure? Heart-attack?
