Best year for gaming ever?

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

I've never been a fan of South Park...(*aside to Karl* it reminds me of a Mark Burns script) and just doesn't make me laugh. I can understand why you might not be crazy about FG and American Dad, toilet humour, constant flashback scenes and some pretty near-the-mark references. However it is nice to see the boundaries of comedy being pushed, the way Python did in the '60's, and it's become a bi-weekly routine for us now on the FX channel.

So, who's buying GTA 4 when ut comes out?

I've only watched the first season of Family Guy and a few random episodes here and there - but aren't South Park pushing the boundaries more than Family Guy?

I might be misinterpreting the whole boundarie-thing though...

Well I've only seen a few episodes of South Park myself so it could be that they are more daring - but I've seen enough to know it isn't to my taste :)

Don't get me wrong, I say what I say about Family Guy after having watched nearly every episode, and having watched the first two seasons an infinite amount of time. Toilet Humor and pop culture references are all cool with me, and if you DIDN'T like those, you wouldn't like South Park either.

I have to agree with Ob, though. South Park is definitely more of a boundary pusher.

ON TOPIC>>>

I'm looking forward to GTA 4, just to see the direction they go with it. I didn't play much of GTAIII, but I played Vice City and San Andreas to death. At the end though, I was like Ironhide: just tired of driving and shooting things, both of which are done better in other games. The thing I like most about GTA over its gameplay is its immersive nature and urban simulation, two factors which should improve tremendously with next-gen tech.

Family Guy's okay, but South Park totally nailed them in the Cartoon Wars episode, when they pointed out how the jokes are written by manatees randomly selecting ideas from a ball pool. Given the choice - South Park every time.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Awh. The Manatee thing is what I love most about Family Guy. The fact that after a while they just gave up on any pretense of linear thought and just went all scattershot "where the [composite word including 'f*ck'] did that come from? where's it going? ah, it's not really going anywhere". It's like they stopped caring, so just decided to do whatever the [composite word including 'f*ck'] they want.

I am currently failing to download the double-length Star Wars pastiche.

off topic - My friend and I have this habit of quoting movies at one another, so family guy fits in perfectly for me.
Plus, I think the humor is just more on my wave length, dont get me wrong, I still enjoy SP but given the choice id watch FG.

Still, it beats the Simpsons...

GTA 4 - well i suppose after san adreas and vice city, the new GTA could be GTA 6?

Off topic again - i don't think FG actually does push the boundries of humour - its funny, but not in an original or agenda led way.

Comparing it to Pythin is... odd.

Course it doesn't. It's just absolutely crazy and insane. But not in a satirical way. Trey and Matt seem to go for scattergun satire, whereas Family Guy just goes for scattergun take-the-piss without any real intent beyond entertainment.

American Dad, on the other hand, is a hotbed of political agendaism. That agenda mostly being "hey, aren't right wing nutjobs ripe for lampooning?"

Ho hum.

Th eproblem with lampooning right wing nut jobs is that sometimes its hard to beat the reality.

Ouch, that sucks. I got the red ring of death back in July. IIRC though, my replacement 360 was in my hands less than a week after I sent it in. Hopefully you get the same kind of quick service across the pond.
