Need to bump this thread for an opinion.
Recently go interested in Jack Kirby's fourth world
What do guys think of this paperback:
http://www.amazon.com/Jack-Kirbys-Fourt ... pd_sim_b_2
A little hesitant do to the high "Superman's Pal: Jimmy Olsen" content.
Is there a better place to start for the Forth World?

I absolutely loved the ending of All Star Superman.
All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder, on the other hand, seemed a bit off. I love the book and have eagerly awaited every new issue, but this one just seemed kind of empty.
I really liked All Hail Megatron 3 as well. There's a really nice Starscream/Megatron moment in there.

I've just re-read all of Transmet.
I think my general hostility-toward-the-world levels have gone through the roof.
My sentences also don't feel complete unless there's three composite swear words in them.
Also gripped with a strange urge to gatecrash a religious ceremony high as a kite and dressed as Jesus...

I gave in and read some of New Ways To Die.
It's CRAP.
How could Dan Slott write the best title at Marvel (Avengers: Initiative) and the worst? (amazing Spider-Man.)
Eddie Brock gets miraculously cured of cancer, becomes Anti-Venom and decides to burn out all traces of the symbiote from everyone.
Even JRJR's artwork can't save this. It's nowhere near the quality of his work on WWH, and the story quality is so far behind it's ridiculous.
The really sad thing is, I think Dan Slott could have worked wonders with a married Spidey whose identity was public.

It's a typical Marvel event. Not overwhelming, but an interesting premise. I'm personally against the "kill it on sight" thing. It kinda continues pushing the heroes away from being all that heroic. The Last Autobot wrote:And how is all the skrull thing going?

Pissed.
Just read the latest issue of Hulk, ready for the big reveal on who the hell he is.
And they keep us hanging???? #@#$!
Loving the Initiative still. Great humor.

The Initiatve is good and all but......
1. I've given up on something moderately actually happening at the end of a SI tie in arc, and....
2. After reading the last couple Thunderbolts, I'm already dreading Chris Gage operating solo on this book.
Intrigued by Dark Reign, but pessimistic after the dullness that Secret Invasion has been.
In other new, Trinity is picking up steam, Death of Cap ended and I don't have a problem with the muted ending.....I'm just left thinking, "OK, that was cool, now how exactly is Steve going to come back again?", that lash ish of Incredible Herc was quite possibly the most entertaining single comic book I've ever read, and Mark Millar's horrible sense of pacing is wasting the bad ass ideas that are Kick Ass and 1985, although Old Man Logan and FF are pretty cool.

Yeah, Incredible Herc is quality. Annoying though that the great Sacred Invasion seems to have no impact at all on the main Secret Invasion. As you say a lot of books just seem to be tracking the events. That said in Iniative i love the way they are managing so many character sub plots - sad to say i don't see a happy ending for Crusader.
Quite like the flashback stuff in the Avengers books, altho some of the Savage land bits were a bit dull.
Ha. I've just remembered that i had a dream last night where i told Bendis SI should have been 6 issues. worrying.
That said i have quite enjoyed it overall, but yeah not as good as WWH. Then again hopefully the aftermath in terms of the main characters won't be as bad as Hulk post WWH.
Liking 1985, but yes there seems to be a lot to fit into the last issue. FF is quite nice but the notion that they would not be able to spot an aged XXX is a pretty poor one.
Glad i dropped Ultimates - sounds pony, altho i like the sound of things post Ultimatum with Millar back and hopefully the sense of ultimate recaptured. As long as they leave Spidey alone obviously (then again they are great at that...).
Hell Boy: The Crooked Man was SUH-weeeet.
Spike: ATF... meh, buit better than Angel but still patchy. In terms of Angel i think i would rather have just had an extensive interview with JW saying "this is what would have happened in Season 6" and then i could have been happy at the ideas and sad i will never see their fruition but it would be better than the jumbled mess so far.
I don't agree about T-bolts, think its been better than i was expecting post Ellis so far.

This is the variant cover to the final part of New Ways to Die.
Notice anything fishy about the description of who who drew the Colbert cover?
You know what, screw subtlety.
That solicit refers to him as "Superstar artist Joe Quesada." I mean, that HAS to be intentional, right? Marvel must want us to hate the guy. I mean, I don't know about the rest of you, but every time I read "Superstar artist" I gag a little bit.

Bought some TPB's and comics that look appealing, though not sure how they will turn out:
Mouse Guard by David Petersen (haven't found Mice Templar yet, Sprunk)
Shazam The Monster Society of Evil TPB by Jeff Smith. Don't like Shazam, but it's J. Smith, so gotta give it a try.
Batman: Murder at Wayne Manor An Interactive Mystery by D. Swierczynski. My bro tells me its a mystery tale that somehow involves the reader (hence the title)
The Arrival, by Shaun Tan, a graphic novel story solely of illustration without dialogue using the magic of silent cinema and picture-story tradition. It's about an immigrant arriving at a fantastic new world. Looks amazing.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed TPB by H. Blackman. Cause I'm a Star Wars fan.
Big Hero 6 #1 by Claremont, I understand its a story from Asia.
I'll let you know what I think. Anyone read and like any of these (without spoilers)?

Akira's the standard.Yaya wrote:Read Big Hero 6 #2. Bored. Dropping it.
Thinking about trying manga. So what's the most critically acclaimed manga out there, anybody know?
Great Teacher Onizuka's pretty good.
Dragonball's a classic.
If you want to read stuff from the master, there's Atom (Astro Boy), Blackjack, etc.
The Spider-Man manga is quite interesting.
If you have the means, you could check out the Transformers manga.
Did anybody read Ghostbusters: The Other Side? I absolutely loved it. Not what I expected (by a long shot) but it was a book I was very happy with. I can't imagine anybody who reads issue one will not stick around for issue two.

No f'in way.Professor Smooth wrote:Amazing Spider-Man 574 was a story that should not have been told. I get what they were doing, but it just felt wrong.
Spoilers:
Flash Thompson goes to Iraq and loses both his legs.
I wonder how they'll explain that away after the conflict has been over for a few years.
In the last few years he's been catatonic, amnesiac, and Peter's co-worker at the high school.
He's the only reliable non-dead member of the supporting cast (well, we've got Harry now) and they're just using him to death.
Sprunk,
My brother has does an hour-live radio show called Fictional Frontiers where he interviews movie/comic/book creators. He's a lawyer by trade, but on his free time, he's basically like us.
He's getting the guy who wrote Mice Templar on the show. He's already had Dave Petersen (Mouse Guard) on.
Actually, he's had quite an impressive list. Last week he interviewed Linda Hamilton (The Terminator) and Chris Ryall (who he does a monthly segment with regarding IDW)
He's had Doug Jones (the guy who played the Silver Surfer and Abe Sapien from Hellboy, Mike Mignola (creator of Hellboy), Jeff Smith (Bone), Dave Bullock (director of The Clone Wars Animated Movie), Jerry Robinson (creator of the Joker), and others.
He told me he's got an interview coming up with the voice of Big Bird and Oscar from Sesame Street. I'm really looking forward to that because I grew up with those guys.
He said he's almost set something up with Richard Dryfuss (Jaws).
Here's the link to his site, with Podcast of all the interviews. http://www.fictionalfrontiers.com/Previously.html
