I like comics, How 'bout you?

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

It's:
a) Astonishing X-Men happened after Secret Invasion (which would be stretching... no, that would be stupid, we passed stretching some time ago) or
b) nobody cares about that book or
c) people on Breakworld are really good at bringing folks to life (Colossus, Cyclops)

As for UFF, I think it's now best it was since God War. If only someone other than Kirkham (poor man's Silvestri as someone said) draw it. Carey has one more arc before he goes which is supposed to be less cosmic, but apparently with magical stuff and bringing back the kids left in the undergroung city in Annual.

Yeah, the art is pretty blah.

I don't mind the title per se, it just doesn't seem to be bringing anything particularly 'ultimate' to bear, which, when the main FF book is now exactly that, makes it feel a bit like a waste of money.

Loved that annual tho, very nice.

Does Prime murder anybody? I can't recall if the Machination agent survived or not, but I'd not class it as outright murrrderrr.

And Jetfire beat Thunderwing. With science. Prime just went all righteous whilst he was waiting. ;)

Other than that, eight thumbs up.
Grrr. Argh.

New Buffy - aces, as normal. If slightly cliche Whedonesque stuff in the end.

New Angel - better than the "main" story. Maybe it's the art style(s). Urru's stuff is pretty, but I dunno... it's too static, too many blank faces and doesn't really convey action well imho.

And how ******* cool was X being back? Never even imagined that was coming. Now all we need is for Twilight to be Scott Hope.

I really hoped the Earthbound Spidey was a Skrull. Damn it.

Wait... isn't the Ultimate Peter Wisdom actually the LEADER? I believe it was him in the recent Ultimate Human mini-series?

That mini was not at all as awesome as it made itself out to be. :( It wasn't because of the Leader tho, that was an interesting basic concept, and I never like the original smarmy bast of a character anyway.

Yes. That's the point of the entire comment, and what's being discussed, respectively.

Actually, I have to skip posts at the moment, since Astonishing X-men and Amazing Spider-man are very much behind in the Swedish publishing, so the answer is...

No, I don't.

Basically, the three biggest topics of the thread, Astonishing X, Secret Invasion, and Brand New Day are stuff I have to skim past, that's why I've been driven away, from this, the finest of threads on all of T-fans. :(

I'm quite enjoying Redish Hulk tho, even tho it would appear as if just about all of Transfans appears to me to have joined the half of the torn-in-half part of the internet that rather dislikes it.

Ultimates 3 is OK as well, nothing special but it makes for some time-kill on a rainy day. ( the colouring in the first issue was.. not so good, but Lichtner's getting better at telling a story for every issue. I'm prepared to give him some slack actually, since his rendering is quite good, and he'd only coloured Joe Mad's Concept-art before this, no sequentials. )

And hey, what's the general score on Stuart Immonen taking over for Marc Bagley on Ult Spidey? I think he's done a bang-up job so far, excellent replacement.

Seeing as both Kirkman and Carey are off Ult X and FF soon, these two may very well become readable once more. ( enjoyed Carey's first arc, God-war, but after that it's just meh. )

Bendis and Loeb will be blowing the whole thing up in Ultimate Origin and Ultimatum soon, aye? I actually think something worthwhile may come from shaking Ultimate up, especially since it doesn't matter too much if you shake it really hard, unlike the regular MU.

Hmm, on that subject, i sure am glad Mephisto turned out to be a Skrull. Shame about MJ being revealed as a disguised female version of the vision from the future though. That was weird.

Although maybe not as wierd as both Luke Cage and Wolvie turnig out to be sleeper agents in Secret War.

Altho i guess that maybe explains the latters decapitation of Beast in the final issue of Whedon Astonishing, eh?

Could it be true?

http://comicnewsi.com/article.php?catid ... emid=11660

Could the last issue of Astonishing actually be out this week?

I'll believe it when I've read it. If then.

Or it's Ellis who's been re-writing it over and over. I'm not sure it's really the artist who should be blamed nowadays.

All Star Superman was as superb as ever.

Astonishing X-Men almost made me cry.

I have absolutely no idea what's going on in Batman RIP or Final Crisis. They might as well be written in Hindi.

All Star Superman is the defining Superman-book of the decade. :) In fact, I'd go as far as saying that it's THE Superman-book this decade.

The other ones are nearly inconsequential, THIS is the book that you're waiting for every month.

And it's been around since 2005... almost half a decade.. with only 11 issues so far. Lol! It feels almost surreal that the end is almost here, soon the book will be over, and we'll all be left wanting.

I do believe Morrison has stated that there'll be some specials covering some stuff he didn't have time for in the actual series, yes?

I'm hoping for some Supergirl, Legion, and BATMAN myself, in the specials. ^^

Haven't read "Final" Crisis myself, or the latest Batmen, but I suppose I can give it a try, since Marvel is all SI right now. I'm kind of tired of mainstream DC tho..

gah - i made a huge comics post t' other week but it got lost when the boards got transferred to the new server.

Anyway, in summary:

Astonishing - lived up to its name. Seriously, scheduling aside, i think Whedon has written the best X-men saga since, since... well certainly in the last fifteen years i would say. Big shout, but hey, i'm cocky. Oh, and the art, especially the bullet/planet stuff - jeez.

Other X-men stuff: Legacy, quite nifty - lots of x-lore being revisited in an interesting way, Uncanny, good so far since MC, X-Force, i was thinking of dropping but i'm actually quite intrigued by the end of the last issue, Young X-Men - pretty damn awful, Cable - argh.

Wolverine... Get Mystique was ok (art was great) but the ending was a total cop out. I enjoyed Deadpool's stint in Origins tho. Deadpool is aces.

Buffy - Dracula was the balls. Harsh on ol' Xand tho. Very harsh. Don't really mind either way about the ol' lesbian stuff but i don't feel it adds much other than some good one liners so i guess ultimately it feels a bit tacked on. Also - Andrew still rules. The omnibus's are quite cool as well, altho the quality of teh stories oscilates wildly and its not a patch on Season 8 - but for what you pay...

Secret Invasion - i quite like so far. Seperate thread to avoid spoilerising people? Some pretty major hits on lots of books already.

Angel - pretty good although still a bit lacking in the art stakes (:() - new art team as of issue 9 i believe tho.

Hulk - nice art, mind numbingly bad story. Real shame after the joy and character fun of Planet Hulk and WWH. Gonna give Skaar a go tho given its Pak back on the expanded Hulkiverse. Mian tho - i hate the red Hulk and everything he stands for. Whatever that is.

Cap - consistantly pretty good.

Ultimate Spidey - consistantly phenominal.

Millar and Hitch FF - has been getting a bit of a slagging from what i can tell but i am enjoying so far. Renders 'Ultimate FF' a bit redundant tho i reckon.

Ultimate X-men - latest issue was pretty WTF given teh ending of the previous one. Heading for the drop pile.

The Initiative - fun.

Black Summer - ok, but i think i could have lived without it.

BPRD 1946 - really enjoyed the first 3 issues but thought there was a bit of a crazy tonal shift at the end when the main protagonist was revealed - mainly as he is a bit of as figure of fun in my mind and up to then it had been pretty creepy.

Abe Sapien - The Drowning... felt pretty pointless to be honest. First time i have felt that about something out of the Hellboy/BPRDverse.

Oh, and most importantly the first issue of Captain Britain and MI-13 was great. Buy this book!

Double Oh, just got volume 10 of Fables. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh Yeah. man that's good comicbook.

Things i miss:
Y The Last Man.
Not hating Spidey. My local shop reckons they shift 30 less copies of his titles now.
A certain X-man, already, sniff...

I'm yet to read that. Do you think Daniel Way's good choice for Deadpool ongoing?
Best First wrote:Ultimate Spidey - consistantly phenominal.
The one with Shocker was fantastic, on many levels.
Best First wrote:Millar and Hitch FF - has been getting a bit of a slagging from what i can tell but i am enjoying so far. Renders 'Ultimate FF' a bit redundant tho i reckon.
I didn't like it and wasn't even going to read the last part of RoboCap arc, but gave in. Even given the last page I don't feel like reading more, though. Prefer Ultimate.
Best First wrote:Oh, and most importantly the first issue of Captain Britain and MI-13 was great. Buy this book!
Hell yeah, plus the same day first issue of Guardians of Galaxy came out which I loved even more. If anyone liked Annihilation, they can't miss that. DnA on form as usual, plus best art from Pelletier I have seen for some time. "Have we won yet? Wait, I can see that we haven't."

One thing i didn't like about the Robo Cap arc was the "he was made to be unbeatable" arguement - i mean, that's not how it works right?

Otherwise everyone would "make things to be unbeatable".

The fact this is one of the few titles I actually read regularly makes it so much harder for me to swallow that at some point in the past year the writers simply just stopped caring.

Best First wrote:Wolverine... Get Mystique was ok (art was great) but the ending was a total cop out. I enjoyed Deadpool's stint in Origins tho. Deadpool is aces.
It was a great way to let Daniel Way get used to writing Wadey before actually taking on the solo title in September. I like the idea of Deadpool'o'vision a lot too.
