I like comics, How 'bout you?

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

He couldn't do it when they first met (X-Men #8? The picnic, right before Belladonna first appeared). I don't remember if it was explained then, but I think it's because of the way Gambit utilizes his power - by throwing projectiles instead of shooting energy from his hands. Bishop can't absorb the cards or suck energy out of them and when they explode it's too late?

I actually was expecting Ultimate Wisdom to be similar to his original version (seeing as his original version is currently crap - hopefully relaunch of Excalibur changes that) and was actually bit disappointed, but kudos for the idea itself.

I like Stark as a funny drunk. "But I was watching the birds." :)

I steer well clear.

Wisdom's in Ultimate Human? Gah. Me decided to do the not buying and wait for trade. Now me wishes hadn't. :(

Probably a good thing... I'm still irked by Ultimate Jessica Jones being a background plot device generic...

How's that different from regular Transfansverse Brendocon?

... wait. ****. Did I just ruin one of the major plot twists for 2008's Crisis on Infinite Transformers Boards?

Bugger.

It's not a spoiler - it's a tease.

And if it means that anything doesn't make sense, I'll say it's magic.

They all look kinda pissed except for Harry.
Well, of course, it wasn't that long ago Harry was dea...in Europe. Yeah, totally in Europe. Europe, it seems, is much like land of the dead in the MU. For that matter, from now on, perhaps the word Europe will be code for dead. When Steve Rogers returns, folks can ask "Hey Steve, how was Europe?"

Peter can lament, "Because I didn't stop that guy when I had the chance... my Uncle Ben is in Europe!" oh the angst. We all know Uncle Ben wanted some place more tropical.
ha ha!

OMD/BND gets worse and worse....

I'm already missing my ASM fix, but this is serious. I couldn't even enjoy the book if I read it. Apparently Peter makes out with a blonde in the first few pages? Harry Osborn now looks like James Franco? Damn you, Deodato!

If ASM is heroin, then people say your methadone should be Spider Girl, where Peter and MJ are together and married. But for me, I'm jumping on the Terry Moore and Spider Man Loves Mary Jane bus.

It's 9:00, and Messiah Complex still kicks ass.

HULK was pretty, but nothing much happened except for the revealing of an important plot point. Those were the only two things I got this week, aside from Beast Wars, but that's another story for another day and another forum.

I read Brand New Day. I was going to not, but Chrissy picked up my shipment.

It is a really good Spidey comic for a single Spidey. It definitely gives him back his supporting cast, which has been steadily dwindling over the years...

BUT

what about the supporting cast at the high school that David was building up in FNSM? What about the typical way to bring in a supporting cast? Did we have to retcon everything just to get Peter some friends?

With the 1,500 yen (7 pounds?) I saved not importing ASM this week, I'm going to go out and buy one of Japan's famous 3 liter beers.

Yeah, you read that right. We have 3 liter beers here.

**** off, Quesda, you ****!

big beers are stupid man

all it means is that by the time you get to the end it is warm and flat.

Not that i'd turn down a free one obviously.

Especially from a skrull pretending to be Spider-man....

With the £2.60 i will save not buying ASM this week i will... er... well, i'll probably not notice what i spend it on to be honest. This mornings breakfast maybe.

Hmmm, hadn't thought of it. Not sure how likely it is to finish up three liters of beer quickly. Maybe just a hip flask of pink lemonade, then.

spiderfrommars wrote:Is the ASM reboot permanent?

Gah.
That's the intent. Then again, the intent of the Clone Saga was to replace Peter with Ben Reilly permanently, so...

Here's what I see happening.

As I've said before, attracting new readers to comics is next to impossible. To read a modern comic book story takes six months (of reading about 10 minutes of story at a time), about 18 dollars, and six trips to a comic book store. That's not an appealing concept to new readers. Instead, the comic industry has a finite pool of readers. When books do well, it's not because of non-fans reading them, it's because the guy who reads Batman every week decided to give Spider-Man a try.

So what does this mean for ASM?

If all of the accounts can be believed, a lot of people are going to drop ASM. That's not good, considering that the cost of publishing ASM is obviously going up (it's shipping three times a month now). Due to all the controversy, a bunch of people will probably pick up the first few issues when they see it at their comic shops, though. That means Brand New Day will probably see numbers right around where they were during One More Day, at first. However, not many Non Spider-Man fans are going to want to commit to a book that ships three times a month. Also, and this is the obvious thing that many people seem to overlook, people who weren't reading Spider-Man aren't going to say, "Wow! Spider-Man's single again! I'M single! I am suddenly interested in the character!" If they didn't care enough to read about Spider-Man before, they probably won't care to now. Because of this, over the next few months, you'll probably see a steady decline in sales of Amazing Spider-Man. Eventually, the numbers won't justify the cost of a thrice-monthly book. Hopefully, by then, everyone involved with the book will understand what a giant mistake this will have been. They'll undo the "deal with the devil" and return to the "once a month" format. Chances are, they'll call the story "End of the Day" or "End of Days."

How bad is this book selling? Well, as you know, there were two covers to each issue. The regular covers and the variant covers. Here's a set of variant covers on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/AMAZING-SPIDER-MAN- ... dZViewItem

Note that it ended at cover price. Looking at auctions that are ending soon, it looks as though even the variants will be selling for BELOW cover in the very near future.

We don't know what MJ whispered to Mephisto. Way I see it, that could be their 'get out' if they end up needing one.

True. Although looking at OMD, it's clear that even if they didn't have a good get out, they could still just think up a crappy one and slap it one some pages without feeling any less accomplished.

I also would be surprised if it lasts. I mean, you've got two camps: The "I'm not going to buy ASM anymore because of OMD," and you've got the "I'm NOW going to buy ASM because Peter is single," and I've GOT to think the former is much larger than the latter.

But yeah, MJ whispered to Mephisto, "I want some super powers too!", she comes back as Jackpot, if the split doesn't go well, they get back together becasue "their love is too strong" or whatever, and THEN you have them as a super powered couple, which Marvel will then say was their intention all along and a single Spidey may have more stories than a married Spidey, but a Spidey in a monogamous relationship with another Superhero? Now THAT'S entertainment. And somewhere, Felicia Hardy cries.

MJ said she could give Mephisto something he wanted... so i reckon she said "I want some super powers too... and i'll take on that big red dingaling of yours to get them".

Apparently she was not happy when flames came out the end of it.

Yeah, the only thing that could make it better was if Ramos didn't overdue with his stylization in some places. :) Otherwise, awesome.

Im so glad New X-Men survives, albiet with a relaunch. I hope Anole features heavily as I loooooove him.

Messiah Complex is so good. I cant wait for the final chapter. I hope they keep up this kind of momentum when the crossover ends.
