Mostly as issues first (or in some cases as part of anthologies). I think only Family Matters was done as graphic novel only.Denyer wrote:Hmm... is Sin City actually published as issues first, or does it go straight to graphic novel?
Shame about the art in the smaller editions as I believe the bigger ones are out of print.

I've started to read JMS's ASM run from the beginning, and it's pretty damn good. Of course, I'm a B5 whore. Maybe all this Ezekiel/Morlun Spider crap isn't so bad after all....
Also smack dab in the middle of Preacher.
Anyone else pick up the New Avengers Illuminati one shot? Thought it was pretty ace.

Ooh, just read a Y The Last Man trade from the library - really good stuff. May have to track down the rest of this. Is it ongoing?
Never got into B5 but I've just read two of the AMS trades and they're really good - wasn't much of a Spidey fan before but this has really opened my eyes.Shanti418 wrote:I've started to read JMS's ASM run from the beginning, and it's pretty damn good. I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

I LOVE Y The Last Man....I think the monthly is up to #44 next week. I collect the trades, which are up to Book 6/#36. I've heard winds of Book 7 coming out in May.
It's scheduled to come to an end at #60.

Loved it. I've never liked Namor before, but he was wicked in that.Shanti418 wrote:Anyone else pick up the New Avengers Illuminati one shot? Thought it was pretty ace.
Young Avengers is great, glad you liked it, BF.
The Civil War checklist has HEROES FOR HIRE on it.
If there really is a new H4H comic and Cage, Iron Fist, Jess and the kung-fu gang in it, you might be able to hear me yelling F*&# YEAH! in outer space.
Daughters of the Dragon kicks all kinds of ass.Predabot wrote:If it'll have Colleen Wing and Misty Knight in it, you'll hear me cry out in unison!
(I'm in love with Mistys hair because of the Daughters Of the Dragon mini )
Did you see the reveal for Heroes for Hire?
No Luke and Danny
BUT
Misty, Colleen and Shang Chi - Master of Kung Fu.
A bunch of weird-but-cool choices in the cast, like Black Cat and Paladin but it;s the same writers as DoD and the artist is the Shi bloke, so it could turn out to be quite good. Hopefully as tongue-in-cheek as Dod is.
There's going to be a Nextwave colouring book out in a few months. It's called NEXTWAVE: CRAYON BUTCHERY VARIANT.
Yeah, seriously.
Anyone picked up anything they really liked recently? Or thought was pretty bad?

Yah! Black Cat was a clever choice. I haven't seen this artist that does Shi, but the concept-sketch looked decent enough.KingMob wrote:Misty, Colleen and Shang Chi - Master of Kung Fu.

I was actually so dumb that I picked up Alpha Flight #100, wich was pure 90's bollocks.Anyone picked up anything they really liked recently? Or thought was pretty bad?

Has anyone tried American Virgin? It's the new Vertigo title that started last month. It's off to a slow start but I'm pretty sure I'll be on board for the entire first arc.
Ex-Machina's just been getting better and better. I don't know why this is in Wildstorm and not Vertigo, though.

I haven't tried American Virgin, although I've thought about it..
Pretty pumped for Civil War. After reading Ultimates, MK Spider Man, Wanted, Chosen, and Ultimate X-Men, I've come to the conclusion that Mark Millar is freakin' awesome.
Liked IC #6. I had just read "The Return of Superman" trade, so the ending was especially poignant. I've haven't actually read OYL, but I get the drift, although I'm still kinda fuzzy as to what is/has happened to Wonder Woman. It seems like Superman and Wonder Woman really didn't do much in IC. Kinda lame.
Overall, IC was cool, but it reaffirmed my affinity for Marvel.

True that. He's also the nicest person I've ever met in my life.Shanti418 wrote:I've come to the conclusion that Mark Millar is freakin' awesome.
Something I've noticed here recently that hasn't been true in a long while; if you miss picking up popular comics on the first days they are out, there's a good chance your're screwed for getting them at all. The latest Amazing Spidey and FF sold out in FP before Saturday. They'd had to get in a crapload of the 2nd printing of the Amazing Spidey before that. If these figures are an accurate indication, Civil War is going to be huge.

Yeah, I know, but it seems like this issue is going to have more of a "Epilogue" feel, considering the threat of multiple Earths and Monitor Superboy are already gone. Yes, there's still Alexander Luthor, but I think the IC crescendo was already reached in #6.Professor Smooth wrote:IC still has an issue left.Shanti418 wrote: Liked IC #6. On an unrelated note, I just finished Preacher. Obviously kick ass, although my friend was very upset at the happy ending. What ever happens to the Saint of all Killers? He just sits up in Heaven eternally, surrounded by the dead?
Anyone know anything about the Marvel: The End serieses? I read Wolverine The End, and it was cool. They have Hulk The End at my LCS, which I read about and sounds cool, but it's a one shot and it's $50. The shop guy told me Marvel Universe The End is awesome, but they're sold out of that as well, and it's out of print.

Yes, it was freaking great, and its already having ramifications. lovely.KingMob wrote:Loved it. I've never liked Namor before, but he was wicked in that.Shanti418 wrote:Anyone else pick up the New Avengers Illuminati one shot? Thought it was pretty ace.
agree Namor was way better than usual, and love that Cap was not in on it...
That's not the first time I've heard of someone not liking the happy ending in Preacher. Weirdos.Shanti418 wrote:On an unrelated note, I just finished Preacher. Obviously kick ass, although my friend was very upset at the happy ending.

The End things...I think it's a case of your mileage may vary I'm afraid. Punisher: The End was awesome, but the parts I read of X-Men: The End were awful - and it's still going! TBH, I don't think I've ever heard anyone compliment Wolverine: The End before.
Picked up FF: 1 2 3 4 the other day and it was great. I don't normally like FF stories at all, but this was cool.
I picked up the latest Judge Dredd Casefiles reprint book as well. I feel kinda ripped off buying these things, but my originals are falling apart, so...
Oh, and Annihiation: Super-Skrull was a hell of a lot better than I thought it was going to be.

Really?? I was a bit interested in having a look at it when it turned out one of the Lost-writers was doing it, and it sounded as if he had some good ideas for Super-Skrull.KingMob wrote:Oh, and Annihiation: Super-Skrull was a hell of a lot better than I thought it was going to be.
But then I saw the art... and most importantly, I saw the online art-gallery of the artist, and his FF and Batman pages made me cry and curl up in a fetal position cursing the name of all deitys I could think of...
So you saying it may actually be worth picking up?
For you? Well, if you didn't like the art, then no. As the story is not going to set the world on fire, and depending how precious you are about your characterisation for Mr Fantastic, it may fill your fanboy soul with rage. I was expecting it to be rubbish, as the Skrulls are very Meh and everyone told me the art blew. So when I found a very fun and dynamic comic that sold me on the point of its existence, with art that's a mixture of Bachalo and Skottie Young at their most restrained, I was pleasantly surprised.Predabot wrote:So you saying it may actually be worth picking up?
I though Silver Surfer was boring as [composite word including 'f*ck'], which I think you said you liked in another thread? So perhaps this is a simple case of different strokes etc.
I have no idea if that comic has aged well...it seemed very, very awesome at the time, but dunno, it may be a little too tied to what seemed to be going on in culture/subculture back then...and how much you get into it depends on some weird stuff, I think...now a lot of it might just read like dated, pretentious nonsense. Still a big fave of mine, obv.sprunkner wrote:So, I just got the first volume of the Invisibles (and KingMob's name) and I wonder... WHAT THE ****?

the concept of the 'The End' series is that they tell the final stories of those characters.
i'm not mad on the concept or the general handling of it to be honest, firstly they can't help but have a 'what if' feel which makes them seem a bit disposable, secondly the talent on them has not been that mind blowing which further adds to the 'what if' feeling. Overalkl the stuff i have seen has just not been epic enough - Wolverine may as well have been entitled 'eh's old a d bit crap now'.
the exception being the Punisher one, which as KM has already pointed out was the glove.
IMO.
