X 23 sees to be back on track (even if the art was apparently done by a pat lee disciple). Uncanny Xforce had its weakest issue in the shadow king. That's not saying its bad. Its just not as good as apocalypse or dethlok. Still badass. And the wolverine 1 shot was as brilliant as it was simple.
Love me some xforce

I can't stand Terry Dodson's art. It's so.... basic. Most of his characters are only distinuisable by their haircuts.

I picture Rachel Dodson as a cowed, meek woman who is afraid to speak up to her sleazy husband and only occasionally ventures: "This pose is the slightest bit risque, dear..."Best First wrote:That's bad even for me.Best First wrote: distinuisable
Ha, yeah - given his pose base and the fact his wife inks his work... well he has obvioulsy got something figured out.
Either that or another flaming porn fiend. Which is maybe more likely, since a comic book nerd would stick with one if he found her.

Interesting read, Bumble. I'm still conflicted, m'self. I'm 99% leaning toward the "Fine place to jump off" side of things... but I'd be a liar if didn't say that there were one or two books that sound at least okay.
I mostly read this as desperation- DC's finally under scrutiny of big papa Warner... and they have to hit this out of the ball park. And hey, more power to 'em. I just don't know that yet another reboot and some kewl, totally rad, extreme elements left over from the 90's are what I want.
Anyway.

For now, it seems like IDW wants my money.

This one was a little sloppier than my usual columns, probably because I decided not to have any journalistic integrity anymore.
Marvel's .1 thing seems like a much, much better idea than yet another Crisis-style reboot. Because, as you know, Bob, sixty issues down the line they will run into the same problems. The idea seems liberating, but it will actually be worse for DC when they have Ultimatum syndrome.

Kick-Ass 2? Why? Kick-Ass was one of the worst comics I've ever read, nay, dreamed of, nay, been in the same sphere of existence with. I'm shocked they managed to pull a half-decent movie out of it.

Mighty Thor is just all kindsa awesome, with all kindsa excuses to show Sif's sideboob. Anyone reading Journey Into Mystery? I think I want to know more about young Loki.

The Marvel glut is driving me a little nuts, yes? Hulk is ending. But beginning. Bucky-Cap is dead and Steve-Cap is back with three titles or something. Loki is now in Journey Into Mystery, and Thor has another title. Or six.
I wish I had the kind of obsessive understanding of Marvel's endless glut as I do of IDW's mismanaged TF series.

I stopped collecting all comics save for Transformers, Godzilla, and a few manga like 20th Century Boys and Naruto.
The mediocrity for $3.99 was just not worth it anymore.

You... DON'T find Naruto mediocre...? I was under the impression that mediocrity is one of the most common criticisms of the Manga, and in perticular, the Anime, of said series?Yaya wrote:I stopped collecting all comics save for Transformers, Godzilla, and a few manga like 20th Century Boys and Naruto.

On the other hand, Manga is often cheaper, so there's that, I guess.

Naruto has become mediocre. It's past it's prime, for sure, and I think needs to come to an end soon.Predabot wrote:You... DON'T find Naruto mediocre...? I hear most manga is mediocre. Really, I only buy the one's suggested to me as the best. Namely, anything by Naoki Urasawa. Naruto is just sort of light-hearted reading but no longer essential for me.

OI! Any of you buggers tried the new DC 52 yet??
I can make a small report, from the 3 titles which I have bothered to seek out.
Justice League - Good, but slightly, slightly disappointing, because it's too light in the character-department. The action seems to take too much room. Huh.
Action Comics - Excellent! However... not quite as supremely wowed as I was by All Star Superman, which is one of those comics that I can just keep reading again and again and again... Still, tons of potential. Superman is FINALLY, after nearly 70 friggin' years, past that Silver Age wussiness, and back to being Golden Age bad-ass.
DO RIGHT! Or Superman will PUNCH YOU!
Batgirl - Decent, but not super-duper-awesome... It could, frankly, be better. I kind of think Gail Simone is at the heart of the problem tho'... she simply isn't a Grant Morrison or Geoff Johns. Nor is she a JMS or Bendis, heck, not even a Millar.
And therein lies the tragedy... She is good, but she is NOT great.
