I like comics, How 'bout you?

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

I didn't say i didn't like his stuff -just that he was a dick on the letters page.

Best writer at Marvel is not something i am bought into at this stage tho.

This is exciting me;

Reading his Fantastic Four run, and the first issue of Shield. Awesome stuff. Tis always a nice feeling when you actually get the bang for the buck.

Here a lot of good things bout The Walking Dead. Worth it?
I got the impression that Walking Dead was to George Romero what Invincible is to DC heroes--a love letter that gets to play with the conventions of the genre.

Have read neither. Invincible is on my desk though.

Going to read Pluto and 20th Century Boys first. Both up for Eisner's. Think Old Man Logan got nominated also. Dersevedly so.

I just picked up my first Fantastic Four TPB, World's Greatest. Absolute joy. I hope the standard keeps up after I finish Millars run.

New Mutants is absolute joy <3

Ok my little page turners. Here is your chance to influence my bookshelf (I know, I know. Contain yourselves). What TPBs should I ask for for my birthday?

I once again suggest Transmetropolitan. With the promise that, should you still dislike it after the end of volume 2, I will never mention it again.

Am I to take it from the conspicuous lack of Buffy mentions lately that we're all of the concensus that, whilst decent, this is dragging on far too long and getting more than a little bit blah?

The fact none of us can be arsed to comment on the Twilight identity reveal that got leaked but most of us had probably guessed anyway speaks volumes. In a non speaking way. :/

Buffy.

Hm.

The "Them F*cking" issue was pretty funny. And naughtytastic. I think we got everything but the penetration shot.

However, I always get the feeling that with these "Big Life-Changing Events" in Buffy, the creators don't really have any idea what is going on. Something is Deemed Important To Destiny, and therefore Stuff Shall Happen.

The best arc of Buffy so far was the Fray arc. I wish they would touch on her again.

If you haven't read these yet:

The Unwritten

Old Man Logan

Both are up for Eisner's, and I thought they were good reads. Of course, it is me saying this and our tastes don't always seem to jive.

Agree, not a classic. But one of the more fun reads from the year.

Actually think the back story in the first trade is one of the best written comic pieces in a long time.

Hey, it looks like Marvel is finally addressing the issue of the Spider-Marriage! Maybe...

Oh, looks like Joe Quesada is writing it.

I wish I could retcon him.

I wish I were the editor in chief of Marvel. I'd give Spidey to Peter David, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Matt Fraction and just say. "Fix it. I don't care if he stays married at this point, just fix that godawful OMD."

One Moment In Time, as far as i can tell, is basically a bit like offering people the opportunity to watch the footage of the truck that hit their gran in really, really slow motion, just in case they were not traumatised enough the first time.

I really liked the three issues that Scott Lobdell and Alan Davis did. Then Claremont took over and... yeah, lost interest. He kept using a lot of his pet X-Men characters like the Technet. That's only okay when Peter David does it.

I need some help guys. I am sitting alone in texas waiting to move the family here. I decided to get back into comics. But I havent been in Marvel comics in almost 20 years. So this is what Ive purchased recently:

Deadpool: X Marks the Spot

Civil War: Frontline

XMen: Messiah Complex

The time around Civil War has caught my attention. So I need to know what other compilations I should be looking for. Or anything I wont be able to find in book form would be nice to know as well.

How is everyone?

Good, my friend. How's the wife and three kids? It is three, right?

Messiah Complex was great, and I don't follow the X-books x-cept for X-Factor. I haven't kept up on "Messiah War" and "Second Coming" (the respective sequels).

Civil War was a good series, and the New Avengers tie-ins were good, as was Civil War: Frontline. The Amazing Spider-Man issues were crap but the Peter Parker: Spider-Man trade tie-in is brilliant.

Can't speak for Deadpool, but Besty will, no doubt.

The latest "Suprisingly Good Read" award goes to the ongoing Doomwar series. Don't know how this will end, but so far Doom is awesome in this. This is something more of what I expected from him in The Siege.

Read Hickman's latest Fantastic Four issue and the first issue of his new Shield series. Yeah, Hickman is starting to become my favorite comic book writer ever (not counting Naoki Urasawa's work in manga). I think it's only a matter of time before he's mentioned up there with the likes of Moore, Millar, Gaiman, and Smith. The guy is uber talented, seems like he could write anything. He makes Bendis look like an upstart hack.

Definitely Cap.

I have to say that after reading Front Line I think things would have been different had Prodigy not been wasted at midnight.

Shot heard round the world should not be started by a depressed, drunk, minor super hero vs Iron Man.

However, I really dont understand why Stark attacked Spider-Man when he said "I still want to be a part of the registration act, but not a part of the Avengers." Seems to me that THAT might have been the worst idea Stark ever had.
