I will dropping the following Dark Reign titles:
Black Panther
Ms. Marvel
Savage She-Hulk
Agents of Atlas
They just aren't worth the time or money. Some nice art, but simply not worth the cash.

More like the end of book1 or however you want to look at it. It's getting relaunched pretty soon. ( as is Ultimates, which may very well be quite ûber once more, natch.)
We still have Ultimate Spider-Man: Requiem, before the series is completely over.
It's my understanding that the new "Ultimate Comics" line will be separate from the current one.

If true, that's good, since I've grown kind of attached to a lot of them.Ozz wrote:Your understanding is not correct.Professor Smooth wrote:It's my understanding that the new "Ultimate Comics" line will be separate from the current one.
On the other hand, everyone's dead or maimed. Is there going to be some magical maggufin that resets everything?

War Of Kings #4, surely? It's very good, like basically anything in Marvel cosmos have been since Annihilation (the first one still being probably my favourite). The said death itself should really up the things because now there's no peaceful solution to the conflict which means the Inhumans will now go all the way.
Are you reading other space series? Especially Guardians of the Galaxy is good companion book for WOK. And more Drax ("Accessing fist" ), Star-Lord, Rocket, Mantis, Cosmo and company is always a good thing. Nova and Ascension are less relevant, although the latter might become more important now what with Raptors getting seriously involved.

Probably because no Ultimate book by Millar other than Avengers was announced.Predabot wrote:which I can't remember the name of now

****this post may be implicitly spoilery for War of Kings****
Be interesting to see what happens to Gladiator now - will he go ape or will he lose the confidence that sits behind his powers?
Not getting GotG - picked up the firts trade and intend to collect it in that fashion instead.
Less interested in the other space stuff and am hoping i can figure it out through the main series.
As an aside love Pettelier's art as well.
Yeah i couldn't remember the issue number and didn't bother checking. Was thinking the same thing about a peaceful/status quo solution - there have been far too many plots over the years of depose/restore in terms of the Shiar so hopefully it won't be a case of life support next issue. Really liked the off panal manner in which it happened as well. Seems a bit daft sating this given the fanatsical nature of the series but it seemed very realistic in the low key manner in which the offing happened.Ozz wrote:War Of Kings #4, surely? Daaaamn.... that's some money you're throwing there.
Honestly, I think you could have gotten it cheaper by buying it from AMAZON UK!
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Daredevil-5-HC- ... 0785121102
And then have one of the trusty brit's of this forum ship it across the atlantic for you.
No but seriously, think it trough in the future. I'm pretty sure some of the lads here will be more than kind enough to give you a hand with some of this stuff. There's even UK exclusive collected editions at times. I hear there's one for Captain Britain and MI13 for instance.

That would definitely put me over the edge on buying a kindle type device given the huge price point, if I could read comics on it full-color. I'm definitely over the need to have physical copies of the issues taking up space...Professor Smooth wrote:Trades are nice, but I'm looking forward to going fully digital. Yeah, I've switched to trades myself, because I was tired of buying 6 issues thinking it was going to lead up to something substantial or interesting. But it never did for most things I was following (All Avengers titles, I'm looking at you). But that's the nature of serials, so I've only myself to blame.
Meanwhile, the effect thus far has been I keep myself abreast of the glacial story pace through online previews and message boards. Doesn't seem like I'm missing much (what sort of real progression has taken place in Dark Reign thus far?), and that only serves to dampen my original ideas of buying the trades. I mean, there are some things I have to pick up in the trades natch, like Fables, Walking Dead, Blackest Night, Cap, and Herc. But most everything else I've been staying away from.
Hell, I even stopped buying All Hail Megatron halfway through, given that it sucked and cost me $3.99 a pop.
Of course, I HAVE been saving up for graduate school and my upcoming nuptials, so that could have something to do with it as well. :P

Yeah, despite my good fortune in making a buck or two by talking about comics, I find it hard to get exciting about them lately--except in trade. I just got the latest Invincible trade and it was beautiful--I love the Ryan Ottley sketches at the back. And I just finished out the trades of the Bendis/Maleex run.
I had to have the individual issues for Initiative and X-Factor or go crazy a little while ago. But now I don't feel the need for those, either, because the monthly dose of story is so small.
Also, anything at all by Bendis is only worth reading in trade. His individual issues are like reading half-completed scenes.

Of the ongoing titles, I'm thinking about dropping everything except:
Thunderbolts
Dark Avengers
Deadpool
Invincible Iron Man
Daredevil
Nova
Transformers
Star Wars
Those are the ones that I have found to be for the most part fun to read. Daredevil and Iron Man in particular have some incredible art. Haven't tried some that you guys like.
Everything else is 'meh'. Some of the miniseries are quite fun though, like Elektra Dark Reign and Hawkeye Dark Reign series. War of Kings has been pretty good, as has Marvel Zombies.
Most disappointed with Transformers. If we keep getting mediocre crap like Cliffjumper, I'm going to scream. Metroplex was a step in the right direction. I was disappointed to hear Ryall say on the radio show that Transformers will likely not get as serious and mature as the G.I.Joe:Cobra series. Why?
Maybe it's time to sort of "pass the torch" to the younger generation as far as Transformers is concerned. I think if I were 15, I would be loving things like I did the Marvel stuff maybe.

At the same time, there's no reason why they shouldn't want our money as well. I'm sure there's a bunch of kiddy TF enthusiasm given the behemoth the movie has become, but when I got reinvigorated with Transformers, there was an Armada comic book AND a G1 book. There was Armada toys AND Alternators/Binaltech.Yaya wrote:Maybe it's time to sort of "pass the torch" to the younger generation as far as Transformers is concerned. I'm definitely not the kind of comic reader that buys something for the art, but your line of thinking makes me realize that what I'm really about at this point is the writer. I bought Initiative until Slott left. I bought Brave and the Bold until Waid left. I bought Thunderbolts until Ellis left. If Brian K. Vaughn came out with a comic book version of "Everyone Poops," I'd snatch it up. I guess what happened is that I was dropping books because the writer changed, and I was left with a bunch of Bendis titles. And then when it came down to making my weekly trip to the LCS to pick up Herc and Cap, I was just like whatever.Spurnkimus wrote:Yeah, despite my good fortune in making a buck or two by talking about comics, I find it hard to get exciting about them lately--except in trade. And as an example in an unrelated product, that was a contemporary of Marvel's G1:Shanti418 wrote:At the same time, there's no reason why they shouldn't want our money as well. Eastman and Laird produced 2 concurrent TMNT titles: One, cartoony and aimed at kids; The other, for the more mature reader.
