I like comics, How 'bout you?

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Just read The Umbrella Academy.

What the [composite word including 'f*ck'] was that all about?

Give me a joint, and I'll come up with something in a similar vein.

Sheesh. Seems like accolades are handed out to anything different these days, good or bad.

Hey teh Yayaz, did you know the Mice Templar trade is out?

Is anyone on this board reading ASM? (notice how it's only one letter away from AHM) Did they retcon Aunt May's knowledge of the secret ID along with everything else?

Yep - although the readers are just as complicit as the companies and sites that churn out previews and the like - if we didn't hit those pages like candy hungry slags then they probably wouldn't be there.

Also that article made me feel quite bad that x-factor was on the list of things i scribbled this morning that i was planning to drop as i just have not been able to get into it.

But then i have only been trying since Messiah Complex and i suspect its missing a certain Lyla factor.

As its the start of the new year what are people's current pull lists?

Mine is:

Incredible Hercules
Punisher War Zone (the Ennis/Dillon mini)
Thor
Thunderbolts
Mighty Avengers
New Avengers
Dark Avengers (when it starts)
Avengers: The Initiative
Captain America
Captain Britain & MI: 13
X-Men Legacy
Uncanny X-Men
Hellboy
BPRD
Buffy

Feel like i'm reading too much Super Hero stuff but don't really want to drop any of the above as enjoying all of them at the mo.

I'm gonna drop;
X-Factor
Hulk
Skar
Angel (should have done this ages ago - its dreadful)
No Hero

I'm curently debating whether to drop:
Runaways (which saddens me but Whedon & Moore's arcs have both sucked the magic from this title for me)
Young X-Men (seems to be getting better after crappy first arc but still seems very big standard)

And i'm debating trying Secret Warriors or not.

Continuing:

Thunderbolts
Deadpool
Mighty Avengers
Avengers: The Initiative
Fantastic Four
Daredevil
Invincible Ironman
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars: Legacy
Transformers

Will try:

Dark Reign stuff (for now)
War of Kings
Manga titles Monster, Bleach, and Naruto
Marvel Zombies (on BF's recommendation)

Hey teh Yayaz, did you know the Mice Templar trade is out?
Thanks.

TF stuff aside...

Buying:
- Buffy
- Angel (seriously, it's nearly finished now so I may as well slog it out)

Er... that's it. Am going to try (ha!) to not buy any trades this year, beyond finishing The Sandman. When I have money, will catch up on Fables and Ultimate Marvel. But beyond that, er, nothing really appeals. Well, nothing really appeals more than the notion of having money in my pocket. Cash in my hand. Skrilla in my wallet.

I'm not the most adventurous comic buyer:

Uncanny X-Men
X-Men Legacy
X-Force
Young X-Men
X-Factor
Astonishing X-Men
All Transformers titles
Buffy
New Avengers
Cable

Other stuff I tend to buy in trades.

My fave comic by a mile at the moment is probably X-Force. I was really dubious about it at first but it's a cracking book. Cable has also got much better.

Young X-Men is apparantly cancelled from issue 12. It wont be missed. It wasn't a patch on New X-Men.

i thought my list was a bit short, on reading other's realised i am also reading;

Cable
Astonishing X-Men
Ultimate Spidey
Ultimate X-Men
Ultimate FF
Normal FF
X-Force
Deadpool

Of the above the Ulitimate X-Men and FF have both nosedived over the last couple of years but i'm inclined to see them out until the end of Ultimatum then give them the hoof.

Actually the last few issues of Ultimate FF have been quite good but not in any way that reads like a reason for a second FF book.

Agree about X-Force - love the way its so steeped in X-Men mythos and it's started to develop a decent sense of humour. Plus; Domino, motherf*ckers.

Might also give War of Kings a go.

And think i might try Gaurdians of the Galaxy in trade.

Good news about Young X-Men - i like it when books i am not sure about die - you save the coin but don't feel you are missing out.

When does Angel wrap?

At that point the dilemma will solve itself.

Definitely, as a setup for War of Kings (besides, it's awesome - my favourite new series of last year along with Captain Britain and The Rest Of Superb Brits). Actually, there are other (mini-)series that set up WoK even better, but I guess they're not needed that much (there's also something like Annihilation Saga that recaps the recent space events bound to show up if it didn't already) but on the other hand they are reccomended.

I do (only almost all in trades):
Astonishing X-Men
Avengers: The Initiative
Cable
Captain Britain and MI: 13
Criminal
Deadpool
Green Lantern and assorted stuff
Guardians Of The Galaxy
Hellboy and friends
Incognito
Invincible
Invincible Iron Man
Nova
Runaways
She-Hulk
Squadron Supreme
Thunderbolts (although the jury's out on the upcoming team)
Ultimate Marvel
Uncanny X-Men
Wolverine: Origins
X-Factor
X-Force
X-Men: Legacy

plus some minis and I'm thinking about Dark Avengers and Secret Warriors.

Oop. Wolverine origins - there is another one. Much improved recently i think.

Big waste of Steve Dillon in the early days but the Deadpool tale was class.

I admit I didn't read W:O from the start and jumped in with Deadpool arc and Original Sin, but I liked those issues and don't understand much of the hate Way seems to get. Maybe those earlier issues were worse, but even outside of that I read Way's Nighthawk (also with Dillion) which was fantastic and current Deadpool is funny and on par with most of the character's earlier stuff with the exception of Simone and Nicieza's runs. I just don't get why he's usually among those who are universally considered as the absolute worst in the industry.

Early Origins was pretty flat and plodding - but far from what i would describe as 'worst in the industry' - agree about Deadpool - so far its def up there with Kelly's run.

My list is rather thin:

X-Factor
X-Men Legacy
New Warriors

That's it. Although I'll be trying a few more things out as well. I keep up with the Ultimate universe via a friend, and Ultimate X-Men has been horrifying for ages now.

How has New Warriors turned out? Its wrapping soon isn't it?

I bought the first trade - i thought it was ok but several Ex-X'ers seemed quite out of character (Chamber being the one that stood out most to me - which put me off a bit as i was a big fan of his early days).

After the Fall finishes with #17. Though it'll have a six issue sequel called "Aftermath", written by Kelley Armstrong. Unless the last couple achieve a miracle and are actually superb, I view that as a perfect jumping-off point.

Although apparently Brian Lynch will also be writing an alternate continuation, so I've no idea what the [composite word including 'f*ck']'s going on now.

Nice to see she's got a realistic approach to canonicity (if you don't want it to count, it doesn't have to). Honesty. Huzzah.

Currently more concerned by the fact I've wasted time and effort buying the first half of Megatron's Super Happy NYC Adventure, so am having pangs of "may as well stick it out for the remainder, else it's a complete waste of money".

Like when you realise halfway through a movie that it's boring and rubbish, but daren't leave the cinema in case it actually turns out to be alright when you've seen it all. Except in this case I haven't paid for the entire thing, and it's much more expensive.

At least The Spirit was over in 90 minutes and I could just move on and forget about it. And had Scarlett Johansson in it.

New Warriors is always a little disappointing, yes, for the very reason you've highlighted - I'm mostly buying it because Chamber's one of those characters I like to keep up with, but like most of the cast, he's been given squat to do. It's still basically played as a bunch of kids with generic powers being strung along by Night Thrasher/Donyell/Bandit, except now they're in a totalitarian future in which Iron Man is Big Brother.

My list is:

Hulk
Mighty Avengers
New Avengers
Avengers/Invaders
Captain America
Fantastic Four
Kick Ass
Wolverine
Incredible Herc
What If? Titles
And I'll try Dark Avengers.
Trinity
Final Crisis Stuff
TF stuff

I'm trying to move more to trades, TBH.

I don't get Kick-Ass. It seems well below the talented people working on the book. The temptation is to say that it was an obvious Hollywood cash-grab (a theory supported by the fact that the movie should be hitting theaters around the same time as issue 9), except, again, I wouldn't expect the people involved to go for something like that.

I feel kind of the same way about The Boys, but the dialogue makes up for anything else in the book.

Does anybody else think a new Preacher one-shot would be a welcome addition to their shelves/boxes? Sandman got Endless Nights...

Yo, if anyone wants to dive into War Of Kings, but is not up-to-date with cosmic stuff, here's War Of Kings Saga, which summarises the events which lead to this story. X-Men fans probably already know what's the deal with Vulcan, but you can always read about the other side of the conflict.

I read the Obama/Spider-Man team-up and hated it. Not much else to say.

Is anybody else reading Fables? I got back into into and read issues 50-78 over a long weekend. This is my new favorite ongoing series. Check it out if you're so inclined!

There's also third mini-series, a prequel one-shot called Dead Days, three issues of Black Panther and there will be fourth mini-series coming in a few months.

By UFF crossover, did you mean the first story which is titled "Crossover"? Cause if so, there's more of Zombie FF in later issues.

Here's the full list:

Its also worth reading Next Wave volumes 1 & 2 to get an appreciation for Machine Man's new outlook on life prior to reading volume 3 (which is ace).

Volume 2 is a little meh, sadly.

Always loved Machine Man, especially Machine Man 2 for the art actually and EarthX for his outlook, I read the first couple of issues of Nextwave, but I think I should probably go back over them. I may figure out which part comes next as I'm at the beginning of the Black Panther issues, just after the first mini.

With UFF I read Crossover and Frightful. Both were decent.

Its a bit of fun.

A new series? Thats good news I hope.

I appear to have accidentally dropped Angel.

Not on purpose.

Solely because an issue came out between Christmas and New Year. By the time I finally got to FP, they had none left. Now I think another one's come out since as well, and that'll probably be gone too.

And I can't be arsed to trawl eBay.

Oh well. I'm sure I'll soldier on.
