... that's normal too, right?angloconvoy wrote:I have read that police are urging commuters to avoid travelling into london.
Ah, I love being British. "What's that, chaps? Bombs? Terrible show. Let's all sit down and have a cup of tea. They make break our homes, but they won't break our spirits! Pip pip, tally ho, stiff upper lip."
Take car. Go to mum's. Kill Phil, grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint and wait for all of this to blow over. How's that for a slice of fried gold?
Grrr. Argh.

Glad to see everyone's checked in. So sad that there were casualties elsewhere.
A sad day yesterday, and a weird one. In the day I had a job interview, in the evening I was at a gig, both were a little muted.
But...
And the emergency services response was amazing.
*raises a glass* World peace anyone?

So true. Seriously tho, no widespread panic - part of that Brit mentality seemed to include keeping their heads, in what was the most trying of circumstances.Brendocon wrote:

Glad you guys are all ok.
I managed to not hear about the explosions all morning, despite having t'telly on. It was only when I popped up the pub for a pint at lunch that I saw what was going on-I was so shocked it took me 5 minutes to realise that my brother and my best mate work in London-fortunately they're ok.

A great bit in the times today said that on the way home, the masses leaving London did so with typical British dignity.
No one ran, no one pushed, no one talked, no one laughed - everyone got on with it... classic.
go us.

Well I managed to get in touch with everyone I needed to, and we decided that the best thing to do would be to go to the pub. Keep drinking: don't let them win.
The atmosphere in London was truly bizarre yesterday, I did a round trip of about 12 or 13 miles to pick up my laptop as my office is closed today. Saw a lot of people behaving calmly and walking home, hardly any trouble at all. Police doing an amazing job.

Saved by weed. I praise the marijuana for your continued existence, Rob.Metal Vendetta wrote:Am I glad I decided to have a spliff before leaving the house this morning. Half an hour earlier and I would have been right there.
Thank God you guys are okay. I just heard today-- I've been completely submerged in an extreme excess of schoolwork. You can see my first reaction (panic) by the other thread (sorry.) Knowing people in London and having lived there for six weeks and used the tube every day makes this hit more home than September 11th.
I can't believe the ridiculous warped thought that inspires this kind of thing. Sad and disheartening. Once again, thank God you are all okay.

I'm concerned that this may not be the immediate end of it. Who's to say that just as things go back to 'normal' it doesn't happen again?
If I was a terrorist, I'd strike again quickly for a cumulative effect.
Thankfully, I'm NOT a terrorist.
Hope I'm not giving any of them ideas though.
I hate sitting through such depressing news reports - do we actually have a definate culprit yet? Not that I think we should respond in kind or anything - that'd just continue the cycle of violence.
