Batman Begins

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Sorry for revivig dead topics, but I only saw it last week (ain't itbad living in middle-europe -well except for the juicy lot of occasional AM Elites and Overlord I find so often).

I must say, this IS truly the best Batman movie so far. Well, the not-animated -kind, Mask of the Phantams still outranks it in my eyes...

I think, this whole movie was about fear and what it does to a man... Hence Bruce's fear of bats, the early featuring of the Scarecrow and even the big ending drama.

The actors were all class, Michael Caine was a born Alfred, Gordon was also spot-on. Ithought at first that Ra's was not too good, but then, he wasn't really the real Ra's,wasn't he?

It was good idea to have Bruce been trained by Ra's, and to see how they are so alike and yet so different... the ending twist really suprised me, Inever guessed it... Ra'ss seems pretty much dead inthe end, though he never stays dead for long. Hopefully he will return, along with Talia, that'd be good.

Kathie was annoying at first, then I started to accept the idea. His lines in the end about Bruce wayne being the mask, not Batman, were real good.
BTW,was she ever in the comics?

Falcone and Crane were also good, Crane was quite that silent spooky sort of guy.,.. hope we see more of him. Zsazs was a suprise appearence, juding from the scars on him he just started... Chill's role was also good, and it was an intersting twist tohave him killed for Falcone.

The ending and Gordon's talk about how the war escalates.,.. heh, sounded a lot like TWW Prowl talking. I can't wait to see this movie's take on the JOker. Hopefully they'llsqueeze in some minor villain alongside him. And please, no Robin. Let this triology be about Batman only, and introduce Robin in separate triology... OK, I'm just dreaming...

Heh, yeah me and Mrs. V. saw it the other week. She fell asleep, but I enjoyed it. I think that the first Tim Burton is better, mainly because I didn't like Christian Bale's scary "I'm Batman" voice...surely he could have found a better voice than that.

Kathy is a movie-only invention, IIRC.

Overall I liked it, but it wasn't amazing. It was a pretty good introduce-the-superhero movie. Which we didn't really need, because WE ALL KNOW WHO BATMAN IS. I would have preferred to see a movie that show BM kicking ass and doing his usual day-to-day stuff...probably more like Burton's original...and let's face it, any movie in this series that introduces the Joker is going to have to try bloody hard to outdo Big Jack.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

the first superheor movie where the good guy is actually the star?

As much as I like Tim B's works, they do look kinda of silly now when stacked up against the realism/grity esque look that this new batman is.

Its nice to see him train and stuff, and not in a team america kinda way either.

Im liking this, and I still like tims work... tough call.

Saw it Sunday and thought it was great. Didn't even feel like a superhero movie. Director's a genius, the entire cast (bar Holmes who was still passable), even the minor supporting players, were excellent.

I think it's better than Burton's (who can tend to forget about the story and get carried away with the visuals) tho I agree with MV that they'll be hard pressed to find a larger-than-life Joker than Nicholson's. But then this film showed you don't need an OTT panto villain - Scrarecrow was damn creepy.

I wouldn't expect the director to return for another one tho. Still, DC are back (next year - Superman!)

I think its way better than Burton's version, because Burton's version is exactly that, its not Batman, it's TIM BURTON'S Batman.

This film is truer to the source material and the most interetsing aspects of the char IMO.

Plus the Batmobile is quite possibly the coolest thing ever (EVER!).

One thing tho. Was anyone else peturbed that he was given a lot of his equipment on a plate? The batmobile, the suit... I thought comic Batman/Bruce Wayne was a bit more resourceful and involved than just snapping up his company's creations? Then again its early days for the character in the film.

Never read Year One btw.

I saw it again yesterday and it was awesome. The second time I noticed the incredible musical score on a much better level. One of my main worries was anyone outdoing the Danny Elfman "bum-bum-bum-BUM-bum-da..." (yes, there are a lot of bums in my head) score, but Hans Zimmer did a great job.

I did wonder how Ms. Holmes and the kid got out of the Narrows at the end. Did the kid die? And yes, his Batman voice is a little annoying.

But when I only notice one or two nitpicky things on the second time in the movie, then the movie is awesome.

Nah, they must have survived....

LOved that scene when Crane snaps... "DR. Crane is not here. If you'd like to make an appointment..." (interestingly, Batman becoming a monster in Crane's eyes was done similary in the first Batman TAS appearance of the Scarecrow).

What bugged me was how everyone mispronounced Ra's name...I was half-expecting Ra's to correct Bruce at some point like in that fabled Batman Beyond episode... :D

As for the Joker, heck, use Mark Hamill! He dis a stunning Joker on the animated show, and they can make his face with CGI...

Now I've watched it twice I'm divided over which is better. They are both brilliant and their strengths are completly different.

The best incarnation of Batman is still the animated series. Must get the box sets of those some day soon :)

EDIT: I wrote "Matman" instread of "Batman"
