ROTF figures creeping into retail

Post by stranger » Tue May 19, 2009 3:31 pm

For the compulsive collectors among you, the new ROTF figures appear to be reaching retail a little early. Today I managed to pick up:

Bumblebee
Soundwave
Sideswipe
Rampage
Sideways
Breakaway
Superion Gift Set

Everything from Toys R Us and Debenhams (Superion) in Croydon. Quite impressive they are too, Sideswipe being particularly easy on the eye.

It's just a nice giftset with some vague G1 repaint/rename action of Superion Maximus from the Energon line.

Well that's weird. They just had one in TFUniverse and now there's one for the new movie?

Only seen Bum and SWave in Singapore so far.

It's the same one, just with ROTF packaging, apparently.

Superion was not released in Universe packaging, I think. Just RTOF.

The silly thing with this guy and Bruticus maximus is, the original Energon toys looked much more like the G1 gestalt members then these - these new ones have color schemes that do not even resemble the original aerialbots or combaticons.

That said, one of the combaticon tanks (Blast off I think) looks just like G1 Quake... nice hommage.

Debenhams only in-so-far as I can tell at this point. But it's working out at around 24 quid with their promotion on toys at the moment which is pretty cheap for 4 scouts and a deluxe.

I have seen in packet shots of Superion in the Universe line complete with 25th anniversary tags - I don't know if it made it to retail, but it must exist or existed at one point.

Either we're not getting the movie ones, or they put these guys on sale to make room for the movie ones. I dunno.

Picked up Sideswipe and the Superion set (£28 in Argos) over the weekend.

Really impressed with Sideswipe. I look forward to a g1 style repaint.

Superion is ace, I think I may have to shell out on the limb upgrades

Hound, how much and wherefrom? That looks bloody ace...

Toys R Us now have Superion, but at a quite frankly laughable 39.99...

They also have a nice repaint set of Whirl (blackout) and Bludgeon (Wreckage) which I would certainly buy if it wasnt over 30 quid...

I ordered mine from Kapow Toys, it's £40 though - ouch! From my experience these sets are always expensive but hold their value.

40 quid seems a little steep to me. Does look excellent though.

I picked up my Superion for $20 a couple of days ago. Target had it on sale for $24.99 and I also got an additional 20% off. I also picked up Optimus Prime (leader), Optimus Prime (voyager), Megatron (leader), Demolisher, Ironhide, Desert Tracker Rachet, Deep Desert Brawl, Soundwave, Sideswipe, Autobot Wheelie, Starscream, Smokescreen, Breakaway, Ravage, Chromia, Skids, and Mudflap.

Target and Toys R us had a huge sale last week. Target had combiners class at $24.99, leader class at $39.99, and deluxe class at $9.99. Target also had an addition in store coupon where if you bought 2 you get 10%, 3 for 15%, or 4 for 20%off any transformer purchase. So I took advantage of this and bought one of every leader and deluxe class that they had in stock. Toys R Us had the Leader class for $39.99, deluxe for $9.99 and they also had Voyagers for $17.99. So I picked up my Voyagers there. They also had a special promo where if you purchased $30 or more, you get a $10 gift card towards your next TF purchase.

I'll leave out 100$ Devs - a combiner made of non-transforming vehicles, that is NOT a Transformer IMHO, Power Rangers do that better. I saw the reviews and the whole thing lack detail, the vehicles are large, blocky with minimal paint apps, reminds me of a Fisher Price toy.

I'm waiting for the Legends sized Constructicons that can transform AND combine to Devastator - not to mention that one has Overload too.

So far, got the Fallen, Arcee, Chromia, Skids and Mudflap, and one Sideswipe that cost me just S$2 cos he was broken in half, I managed to fix him up but he's stuck in robot mode.

Just made the decision and pre-ordered the Fansproject Energon Bruticus extra limbs (basically Classics/Universe Swindle and Blast-Off). Those toys look amazing, sadly I'll have to wait until June for the release.

Got damned lucky over the weekend, RotF has been on clearance for some time, still managed to find the last Bludgeon in the store.
