How do I clean smokey figures?

How do I clean smokey figures?

I got some loose Beast Wars figures in the mail the other day and apparently the previous owner smoked like a freight train. I've tried dish soap and car soap but the smell always comes back. I googled this problem but all guides I found suggest vinegar or rubbing alcohol which will take the paint off. Does anyone know a way to clean them?
