Got MP-01 Takara Prime!

Post by BB Shockwave » Thu Nov 16, 2006 8:16 pm

Truly great day today... 8)

My MP01 Optimus (MIB) arrived... well technically, he arrived 2 weeks ago, but the stupid post system forgot to notify me, and when I checked, they forgot to tell me it was there. Pretty good I checked today - they'd have sent it back tomorrow...

The toy is awesome. Transformation is really complex, has tons of features, and the diecast really makes him heavy and imposing. If I have to nitpick, it's that the diecast also makes Prime top-heavy and hard to pose... but I still consider him one of the best TFs ever... If MP Megs will be even half as good, I'll be happy.

Oh and... I got him for a real bargain. Traded it for a loose Overlord I bought at the flea market. Since the guy also bought another half Overlord from me, in the end the money I actually spent on the toy (with shipping) came out for about 20$...

All I got for now is the Classics reissue of 20th Anniversary OP... for about US$35. :( Seems to be a bit of mold degradation on the diecast... well at least I'm in the market for the trailer now.

So, the Classics reissue has diecast too? I thought the US version was only plastic...

Are the speaker-voices good quality, btw?

Well, it does come out nice and loud, but that is NOT Peter Cullen's voice. Two phrases get clipped for length, though I think the old transforming FX is in there.

Still, it must be nice...

You noticed how strong the Matrix lights? I had a one-hour blackout yesterday, and since my flashlight was in the storeroom, I used MP Prime to 'light my darkest hour', at least until I found it. :D

Must say, the long smokestacks look much better. Though, for some reason the 'vents' only work on the right leg, is that normal?

Also, do you know how I can get the faceplate off? I want to do a 'Prime dying on Cybertron' pic, just like in 'Still life'.

I can honestly say that one gave me a bit of a shock.

They should work on both legs. Normally I pick at them with a fingernail to raise them.

Sorry, my usual sources don't give any details about that. My advice is to carefully unscrew the head and see how it's put together.

Thanks for all the info ! :D

I tried to unscrew the head, but there is only one visible screw at the top and it doesn't seem to hold anything. Oh well, I'll just try again.

Got an update here. So I figured out that the leg vents work when you push OP down on his feet, getting them to rebound a little (yeah, I'm slow). And I noticed something - my OP had a little QC error, with the heels on both feet switched around. Left heel on the right foot and vice versa. That's something for you folks to take not of - it's the 20th Anniversary DVD Edition OP in Classics-style box, just to clarify.

Fortunately it just takes the removal of two screws on each foot and a quick swap to rectify.
