i think this is the best new transformer to come out since "robots in disguise." i've wanted for very long to see the autobots go back to more realistic designs. he looks like a seventies riviera or cadillac somewhat. it's taken me a couple of months to find, but i'm very happy with him.

I think Hasbro/Tak purposely gives us awful color scheme for their reincarnated characters. This is so these toys can be repaint later on down the line to fit the intended color scheme. Has/Tak accidentally discovered this in Armada when they recolored Hot Shot in a similar color scheme to Hot Rod. Hot Shot was not intended to be a Hot Rod reincarnation by design. The recolor became a hot commodity, even today.

I like the colors on this one, but you do have a point. Many of the newer color schemes are horrific(Universe).

Actually Cybertron Wheeljack, er I mean Downshift's colors are based on the cars he was designed from. I think it's a cool touch, and something that Wheeljack, er Downshift would be proud of.

What was he designed from? I know it's from the late seventies/early eighties, I just can't put my finger on it. He seems to be the first(aside from alternators) to be based on a real life vehicle since RID. I think that's part of the reason I like him so much.

Here's a good link:

1970 Dodge Challenger and a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda AAR. Cybertron Downshift seems to have elements of each.

Overall meshed tribute to musclecars would be my conclusion. Thanks for the awesome link.
