are they worth it?

Post by dexom » Thu Jun 16, 2005 11:37 pm

i would like to brush up on a few g1 TF's and a local comic store has a bunch but they're extremely pricy. are these worth they're price:

kup- $60
hot rod- $70 [complete]
rodimus prime- $120 [complete]
grimlock- $100 [no weapons]

slag
sludge
snarl- each $60 [no weapons]

devastator- $100 [complete]
soundwave- $85 [complete w/ buzzsaw & lazerbeak]
optimus prime- $120 [complete w/ trailer]
bruticus- $100 [complute]
superion- $100 [complete]
starscream- $80 [complete]

micron cassestes- $4-12

they don't seem like good prices at all to me, but i could be wrong. i know the guy is having trouble selling them so haggling him down might work. but how much should i shoot for?

Absolutely not on most of those.

You can buy dead mint reissues of Hot Rod, Rodimus Major, Optimus Prime, Soundwave, and Starscream for much less. Kup is the next upcoming reissue. If you don't like reissues, you can still do much better on these prices through ebay.

The Dinobot prices are absurd. Not in a million years.

The cassette prices are very good.

Bruticus would be worth it if he's the original metal version and has all or most accessories.

Get the cassettes.

Soundwave's getting rather rare from what I can gather, but if you're going to fork out that much, might as well get a nice fresh one.

i had a feeling they were very high, but i wasn't sure. glad i asked thanks. so what do you think i should bargain down for if the comic guy would go lower. i mean what would be an average price for them. like i said hes not selling them anytime soon; so i'm sure he would sell them lower. i did mention he seems to not know what they're worth at least he said something like that when we talked.

With the prices he's starting at, I'm not sure you'd have much luck talking him down to a reasonable price. I still maintain that you're better off with factory new reissues, but if you really want to buy the ones he has, price depends upon condition. How mint are these guys? Are they 100% complete with all accessories and paperwork? Are the joints loose? Any stickers peeling or paint fading? Have they collected a noticable amount of dust while sitting around in the shop? Do any have their boxes? All of these details factor into price.

good questions. well from what i saw there was no paint or sticker wear. most of them were 100% complete. some had instructions and tech specs. and i beleive he said they were sold to him by a collector who claims that his kids were getting into them and he wanted thy're worth before they got destroyed. i actualy went today to talk to him he did not have a single one of them in the case. he said that they weren't selling so he put them in storage aqnd maypossibly try ebay. so i think hes getting desperate.

Have you tried ebay for any of these items yet? Are you interested in reissues? Either of these methods would get you most of these items for significently less money.

If you insist on buying vintage items in person, though, these prices aren't absolutely horrible. You could just do a lot better. Try to make him a bulk deal, where he'll sell you a bunch for one price. You usually get a deal this way. You may also want to mention that the following items have been reissued and are available dead mint for a much cheaper price:

kup
hot rod
rodimus prime
soundwave
optimus prime
starscream

Of these, only the Optimus Prime and Soundwave reissues are at all pricey.

Finally, the Grimlock and Starscream are WAY overpriced. Also, make sure Optimus Prime contains absolutely all of his accessories.

Hope this helps.

Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.

The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.

It's going to be a sad, sad day when I have to shell out $$$ for a reissue of a Seeker.

To be sure, that day WILL come, but it still will be a waste.

*looks up at peeling, chipping G1 Starscream missing two fists and a wing*.....*sigh*

But he has no fists.

Isn't there a TF spares shop on the web at all? If not - there should be.

There's an entire section devoted to vintage and repro parts sites. Some links are a little out of date. I haven't updated in over a year :(

Okay, check this out here.

Guy wants $200 for all of it. Seems like a total steal, considering that I would imagine Perceptor, Optimus, and Overdrive by themselves could possibly cost that much.

But what about this take: Do you think that if I only kept Optimus, that I could sell everything else for $200 in total on eBay on on the boards?

Is that the recent reissue Perceptor? You could probably flog that to some UK fans who never saw it released here. I reckon if you kept the Prime that the other stuff wouldn't be worth much. It always depends on who happens across your sale, of course. Might just get some good cash for it.
