His knees are really awkward... or aardwark? What's that word...

Anyway, honestly, I don't like alternators at all. Nice, but they all look the same. Today's cars are so alike...10 years before, a Corvette or a Porsche stood our of the crowd, today all of them are aerodinamically optimised and thus look pretty much the same.

Oh, and they are all round, no sharp angles, etc. Call me conservative but I like robust and square cars like Hummers or Volvos better.

As for the toys, their transformation is pretty much "variations of a theme".

Gads, the head... I nearly threw the bloody thing out of the window trying to get the head through...

Legs are huge, the wheels on his arms are naff.

He has a bloody great big panel on his arse! And he's using car seats for his feet - that'll knacker the leather.
Nice chest grill - although that's more because of the car design than the 'bot design. At least he has a different type of leg transform than the others, and the shoulder doors kind of suggest his G1 dino-wings (mmm... spicy).
Unfortunately, Alternators/Binaltech seem to fall into two camps: car bonnet for chest, twist waist, display boot (maybe license demands to show off make and model?), and second: inside bits on outside and visa-versa (Windcharger, Sideswipe etc.), where there's no real 'bite' to the 'bot.
Any suggestions for a new transform style? How about similar to G1 Sunstreaker or Wheeljack? Split the bonnet and stick it on the shoulders? Or just something that would be cool, like G1 Mirage. Or a change from bloody cars (besides Hound) - Skids or Inferno or Grapple. All these cars (and their friggin' multiple repaints) are making this promising line a bit stale. Perhaps Groove or Blades - we ain't seen motorbikes or helicopters yet.
I wouldn't mind seeing a Binaltech triplechanger - how about Broadside? That'd bugger up the scale specs, trying to do both his alt modes. Or Cosmos - what would we get for him?

Perhaps Binaltech should have a spinoff line that goes in a completely new direction: TV/ movie tie-ins: TF Star Trek, TF Star Wars, TF Thunderbirds. How about an A-Team van, the car from Starsky and Hutch (make name escapes me), or KITT from Knightrider?
Hmm... perhaps this line of rant should have been a new topic - sorry people.

Back on proper topic: I don't think Grimlock's too bad, I just think we're all a bit disappointed he wasn't some kind of cool robo-dinosaur, and that there are too many basic cars in the line right now. I agree that Grimmy does have a few annoyances to his design though.

I'm not. I've fully come to terms with the fact that the entire point of Binaltech is "realistic scale model cars."

My gripe with Grimlock is that his head is tiny and annoying, his arm wheels are stupid and his legs are oversized.

My main gripe with the line is that too much of it consists of repaints.

Yep. At that price I demand a new mold for each character - repaints are evil.
Well, I was disappointed that Grimlock was a car (I know that's the whole point of the line).
Also, don't you think the latest ones seem a bit cheap and plasticcy? I noticed that with Hound.

Never thought Hound was too plasticy... but then I've only been getting the BT ones, so mine's got a huge chunk of metal in it...

I've no issue with the concept of repaints in general, it gives a bit of choice, and also allows me to display one car and one robot for each mould... but it's just getting a bit overkill now.

We've had three Imprezas
We've got three Corvettes, soon to become four (and for the record, I think Swerve's robot colour scheme is hideous beyond belief)
We're about to get a third Mazda

I wouldn't mind if the redecos were spread out a bit more, but at the moment every other new BT is a previously released mould. It's annoying.

Including unreleased toys that we've seen pics of, there are 19 different Alt/BT toys, but only 8 basic designs. It's ludicrous. And yes, I regard Lambor/DeadEnd and Tracks/Ravage as having the same designs... a roof hardly changes the world...
Grrr. Argh.

Who's the third Mazda going to be?

I think Grimlock is okay. His arms are a bit tricky, but his legs are cool with me. Kinda the opposite of the Mesiter mold, IMO. (which has cool arms but tricky legs going to car mode).

I HATE HATE HATE the Tracks mold.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the windcharger mode. Almost as ingeious as MP Oppy.

Which, by the way, is the most ingenious thing ever invented. Hadn't transformed it in a few months, and in just a few minutes, he was fully transformed. Whereas my Ravage is still sitting in almost car mode, all smushed together.

not a Grimmers fan either. He is incredibly dull. Its a boring design, Wheeljack looks just as bad.

Maybe BT peaked with Meister? Although I do love Tracks aswell.

We need something new on the quality scale of MP Optimus. For one thing he isn't a car. Unfortunately everyone seems to be wetting themselves at the new Ultra Magnus white prime repaint (repaint: Arrggh!!!). Now correct me if I'm wrong, but a white Prime a Magnus does not make - where's the rest of him? Cheapo lazy toymakers.
They should do a BT version of Huffer - as he's a lorry thing he'd be as big as Prime. That'd bugger up his status as a 'mini' Autobot.

Why can't I get him to back into a car? When I try it ends up a bit skewif and you can see stress marks in the plastic. Does BT Somkes have the same problem? My BT Grimlock Transforms well enough.

I like BT G'lock, ok he should not be a car and I don't like the fact that it's Grimlock, but I like the mold.

I'm not sure about stress marks on Binaltech - isn't the car bodywork supposed to be die-cast? As for Alternators, I try not to force them into place if I can help it (not east sometimes). The fact that all the inner bits have to be like, millimetre perfect, makes it so difficult to get the damn things to finally lock into car mode. All Alts are a bast to transform back, mainly with the legs (although Hound isn't too difficult legwise).

And yes, Smokescreen IS as bad as the others.

I hear the paint flakes from the metal parts on Binaltech where there is continual contact, ie. hinges.

Considering how many Alternator characters have so far made it to UK mainstream stores, I'd certainly recommend importing just in case. I'm lucky 'cos I live not too far from a toy import shop that gets new stuff in all the time - I don't even have to order stuff most of the time 'cos there it is: already in the shop. He'll order me specific stuff too, which may take a couple of weeks to get to the shop, but I don't have to pay in advance - it takes all the risk out of importing, especially online.
If you're going to import, definately go for BT instead of Alt.

Ain't been to Forbidden Planet for ages. But the one in London moved and I can't be arsed to travel there and find it. Which end of Shaftsbury Avenue did it go to, 'cos that's a long road to have to search for something on?
I'll have to check online to see what they've got, I suppose.

Tempting. Then again, GF Megs looks a little un-Megatron-like from the photos I've seen. The only new ones that really appeal to me are GF Optimus and GF Starscream. Of course, the moment I see any of the other GF stuff in a shop, I'll drop my preferences and dip into my wallet.
I just wish there was a Forbidden Planet near me - my local toy import shop is only a bout the size of my bedroom.
How much was GF Meggy, by the way?

I think he was £30, GF Prime was £49.99. They certainly are pricey. They've got GF Thundercracker to and some Energon,
They went TF crazy in Cardiff from R.I.D onwards.

£49.99 doesn't sound too bad for a new Prime figure - especially one not out everywhere in the world yet.
A TF crazy place is good 'cos more shops will stock them, but of course also bad 'cos you'll have to fight all the other TF fans to get the good stuff.
I'll just have to bug my import guy and see what he can offer me.

Laserwave/Shockblast.

Overall, we've had or will have:

Impreza: Smokescreen, Smokescreen GT, Streak
Viper: Lambor, Dead End
Jeep: Hound, Swindle
Corvette: Tracks (blue), Tracks (yellow), Ravage, Swerve
Mazda: Meister (white), Meister (red), Laserwave
Mustang: Grimlock, Wheeljack
Honda: Overdrive, Decepticharge
Acura: Prowl

19 deco jobs, 8 base designs. And I thought Universe was taking the piss. Oh, and that's before you take into account the seemingly infinite amount of door numbers available for the two Smokescreens.
Grrr. Argh.
