looking for figure suggestions

Post by quintesson_judge » Sun Mar 06, 2005 7:57 pm

Hey there, honestly, I dont own a single TF figure. I gradually lost all my old ones over the years and after Beast Wars, I lost interest until recently. So now I am looking to get some toys, but (unlike way back in the day) there seem to be so many lines to choose from. My main problem is, despite all these lines, each one manages to have a handful of characters that are great (i.e. Galaxy Force Starscream) and a few that aren't so great.

Well I was wondering if you guys could suggest what I could look into getting. What I am doing is organizing them by teams. So it'll be a mix and match of the different lines, those best from whatever lines, put together to make say "the ultimate" teams. Autobots, Decepticons, etc etc. Only one, being GF Starscream I concider a definant must have.

Well for those interested, this is my list, thus far.

Autobots:

Ultra Magnus: Universe

Arcee = Energon

First Aid = Galaxy Force

Skids = Galaxy Force

Decepticons:

Gasket = Galaxy Force

Starscream = Galaxy Force (isnt there suppose to be a "smaller" version out soon?)

Thundercracker = Galaxy Force

Skywarp = Armada

Ravage = Energon

Scourge = Robots in Disquise

Buildron = Superlink (I'd prefer to call him Devastator, unless there actually IS a Devastator much better than the G1 version)

You can find reviews for Transformers toys at www.bwtf.com and www.seibertron.com Of the two, I think Seibertron is more comprehensive, and it has some really huge galleries so you don't have to buy anything sight-unseen.

I've been collecting toys from the Armada, Energon, and Alternator lines. Energon will probably be the easiest to find, but there should still be some Armada toys lying around. Right now I'm going through archives and picking up some of the neat BW/BM toys that I missed out on. Galaxy Force looks cool but I haven't bought any because they're all imported and therefore more expensive. When they toys are released domestically this summer, the prices should be significantly lower. ('course, I'll be in Korea and finding them there will be a real trick)

As for recommending specific toys, check out Robotmasters for a cartoon-accurate Optimus Prime. If you like BW, get ahold of Burning Beast Convoy (one of the coolest Transformers ever). The new Energon Starscream is pretty slick, as are almost all of the Energon Powerlink figures. (My favorites are Energon Rodimus and Inferno) I agree that Arcee is really cool, and some of the new gestalt parts are neat. (You really can't go wrong with Energon.)

A lot of people bash the Universe line, but their new beast figures are pretty good, and if you can find a Target-exclusive Nemesis Prime, he's awesome.

Yeah, as far as recent stuff goes, Armada and Energon seem better off, I'll still look into say Binal Tech and Alternators, but I want to make that like a seperate series that will go with MP Prime, since they are a bit larger than most other figures. Perhaps I could make a real interesting lineup, toss in some BW/BM characters in there too. Well wait, back up, what is the size difference between the Alternators and say Energon and whatever else? I'm looking to get them all in some sort of reasonable size relation to each other.

Yeah after seeing Energon Starscream (the redeco) I'm mighty impressed, and have changed a bit of my list to Energon. Tossed some Alternators in there too, just as long as they are not too big in scale to the others.

At the moment I'm unsure of a Convoy and a Megatron though, I can't stand either the Energon or Armada versions at all.

Autobots:

Optimus Prime = Galaxy Force (or MP Convoy) perhaps Hybrid Style GF?

Ultra Magnus = Universe

Arcee = Energon

Smokescreen = Alternators

Silver Streak = Alternators

Tracks = Alternators

Decepticons:

Unicron = Energon

Megatron =

Starscream = Energon

Thundercracker = Armada

Skywarp = Armada

Thrust = Armada

Ravage = Energon

Scourge = Robots in Disquise

Buildron (Devastator)

Nemesis Prime = Universe

Is Universe Magnus a repaint of RID Magnus or Armada Overload?

If it's RID then get RID Prime too, not the horible yellow one they couldnt be bothered to replace all the red parts on though.

Yeah the more I look into it, the more it seems so. He's bulky, over priced. For the most part I wouldnt think he's so bad, but I'd rather go for the smaller one that suppose to be coming out.

Hm, ah well, guess I'll stick with Energon Starscream. His rather small stature leaves me skeptical, but he does fit in in terms of scale with other characters.
