Chrome wearing off!!!!

A few days ago I was cleaning my collection and the first signs of the chrome style painting of some of my TM2s are starting to decay. Is there some way of avoiding this to happen or are they destined to end in bare plastic???

I hate it!!!!

The only reason some of my TM2s started losing their chrome was because they were ones I played with (alas, poor Scarem, Dinobot and Ramulus...). The others have little to no loss, so I don't think it starts peeling for no reason. Heck, my Spittor looks mint and I played with him quite a bit too.

I can explain you why this is happening. It is because you are from PERU. The two biggest enemies of the Transformers are humidity and hot weather and I am afraid you have them both over there, The paint did not disappear. It was damaged by humidity and melted by high temperature. The only solution is to put all your toys in a room where you can keep an air conditioner and dehumidifier running all day long. It's very expensive but living in hot, wet area too I can assure you that it is the only solution. I know that this might not be good news for you but it's the hard truth!

I live in London, Ontario, which is on the same latitude as northern Califormia, roughly.

My TM2s also have the same problem, as does my big Jetstorm from BM. I never played with it - I just took it out of the drawer and noticed some of the chrome had fallen off.

The problem is with the metalizing process, and humidity does affect it. London, being on a piece of land surrounded by the Great Lakes, is a very humid, although not always hot, place.

You can prevent further damage, and possibly prevent the onset of this problem, by brushing on a coat or two of Future floor polish on the chrome. Future is an acrylic, and if it's thinned a bit, it makes a dandy gloss coat for models. I used it on Jetstorm, and no more chrome has come off. It leaks into the cracks, and basically glues down the chrome plating.

Try it, and see if it works.

Just so you know, not all my TMs/TM2s did this, but Rattrap and BM Jetstorm did.

But I only collect MISB so that will not work for me. It's true that humidity alone or high temperature alone can do a lot of damage on their own but a combiantion of the two is usually more deadly than Unicron himself for TFs. Usually the toys I buy from London and the UK in general do not have much wear from humidity. What you tell me Faust comes as a susrpise because normally Germany, UK, the Netherlands and other regions from Northern Europe are quite safe for the toys. Maybe you live in an unusually humid area? or your own house has some specific humidty problem?

I didn't know you were an MSIB guy. Sorry about that. You're right, in that case, it won't help you.

As for the humidity, I do live in a very humid place:

London, Ontario, CANADA.

I imagine the UK is a lot easier on humidity than my London. However, we have weeks in the summer where the temperature is about 30 degrees Celcius, and the humidex reading is in the high thirties to low forties. That will kill it every time.

Sorry for the confusion. I thought the 'Great Lakes' reference would help explain where I was.

Future floor polish= Wax floor??? That stuff that serves to make the floor brilliant? anyone would help/be the same?
