Galaxy Force figures. First Impressions

Post by Hound » Wed Jan 12, 2005 4:07 pm

I have yet to open them, but they look fantastic in the packaging.

I have Convoy, Vector Prime, Starscream and the Minicon 3 pack. Vector Prime is especially mouth watering at the moment.

The packaging itself is not the greatest I have seen. The figure is in vehicle mode and on the left of the box is a picture of Cybertron, and you can see some kind of energon chip, must be the gimmick for this range, I wasnt previously aware of it though! The artwork lacks a certain asian twist to it. It seems more western with a mix of cgi.

More upon opening!

Ok I have just opened Vector Prime.

He is very very cool. His vehicle mode is a nice chunky space shuttle. It has a long front-end and wings that are kind of like an X-wing. It house the minicon on the top, which provides some nice artilery, and the sword slides nicely into the front side of the shuttle so you hardly even know it is there. There is also a home for these strange energon chips that all my Glaxay force figures have come with. I believe it makes annoying noises but I have yet to put batteries in Vector Prime. I think these chips activate the special features in the figures instead of minicons.
The vehicle mode itself does little else, but is very big and chunky and just seems fun, ,which was a big part of the appeal of the energon line, I'm glad it has carried over.

Transformation is very simple. merely a case of folding the lags back and the front end of the shuttle behind. Twist a few bits et voila! Certainly no Beast Wars style complication here.

Robot mode , I love. He is posable in all the right places, the only part missing articulation really is the torso. Vector has a great colour scheme, the grey, transllucent blue and burgandy work beautifully with the gold trim. He looks like an ancient samurai type, which fits with the role i believe he has in the show. The wings from the vehicle mode fold up and look like a cape. He looks really impressive, and very unique for a Transformer. Another thing I have noticed is the amount of detail on him. There are lots of tiny cogs. Infact upon closer inspection, its almost like he has the decor of a clock. Maybe this is to empthasise that he is old and wise?

Vector Prime's minicon (Root , I believe) is excellent. He is almost like a mini version of Vector in vehiclemode, but also doubles up as a gun. Simple transformation. Satisfying and lovely detail. I'm really chuffed to have the minicons back.

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase. I hope the rest of my toys are this good!

**EDIT**

Just opened the minicons, they are average, certainly no worse than the Armada ones. My personal fave is the blue one, who has some great articulation. I have no idea what their names are. The green car is pretty average and the heicopter is rubbish.

Starscream is fantastic. Resembles his Armada incarnation heavily, right down to his powerlinx point, which reveals a pair of purple energon swords. He isn't as articulated as Vector Prime, but he looks fantastic. My only wish is that the grey bits were painted white instead of grey, like the original Japanese Armada Starscream. Its very strange to stand him next to Vector Prime though, they look as if they are from totally different cartoon series.

I love the detail on Vector Prime; you can almost see the clockwork cogs and gears moving. Wonder what they're gonna call him for Cybertron. IMO the design screams 'Alpha Trion'.

Like the Microns too (got both sets). The Street Speed Team repaints have minor remolding, and the other set's decent too. It's kinda funny how many of the Microns/Minicons have better articulation than TFs many times their size.

I think the little chip thingies are called "Ignition Chips", but I seem to remember reading that that's what they're called for the toyline, and may be something else in the show, if they're used at all.

Vector Prime makes an odd noise upon inserting the Ignition Chip, can't tell if it's gunfire or thrusters. Dreadrock and Road Bullet have batteries already with; Dreadrock has a couple of sounds while Road Bullet has just one. Galaxy Convoy's sounds are kinda lame, but Master Megatron's two are cool, especially the missile firing sound

Galaxy Convoy has got to be one of the most awesome TFs ever!! 'Nuff said. Well, that and GO BUY THESE TFs!!!
