Transformers Population?

Post by jboyler » Tue Aug 17, 2004 2:39 pm

Here's a question:

How many total Transformers, Autobots and Decepticons, do you think there are?

In some comics they make Cybertron look abandoned and in others it looks like there may be thousands, perhaps even millions of Cybertronian civillians. But more importantly, exactly how many Autobots and Decepticons are there? We know there are tons of different toys and comic characters, but we only ever see a dozen or so at a time.

How many, as a ballpark figure, do you think there are?

So how come your poll only goes up to "more than 150"? There are blatantly more than 150 Transformers on each side because there are more toys than that...
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Over what period of time, though?

You can't include BW/Armada/RiD in the same timescale as Gen 1. How many toys were released over the course of Gen 1?

If I recall correctly there were billions lost in the initial strike of the Decepticons. Who knows what happened in the millenia before that. There's plenty more than 150 I'm sure. It's like any other program of any other venue, we're seeing only the most important players or stars. There are some places on Cybertron highly populated still, some abandoned. Remember, this is a Saturn sized planet. And that's not even going into sub-levels.

[edit]Ignoring Nebulans, Actionmaster partners and the like, I counted up a grand total of 202 Autobots and 162 Decepticons. So there are definitely more than 150 Transformers on each side.

*Looks at poll again*

I'm sorry if I sounded rude, but this is a question that I really didn't know the answer to and I was shooting in the dark. I admit that I'm a Transformers newbie and I'm pleased with the response I've gotten.

<<It's like any other program of any other venue, we're seeing only the most important players or stars.>>

This is where my question was going. Are the Autobots and Decepticons that we've actually seen the only ones that exist or are there actually huge armies of these guys behind the scenes?

Saturn? I had always thought of it as being the size of a very small moon. Like the Death Star. (And Unicron smaller still)

Well, in the comics, I believe it was the very first issue in fact, it's stated to be Saturn sized. It's practical as well. Honking asteroid/or/Planet originally, layers built upon throughout millions of years of TF civilizations, the fact there were billions of these robots before the start of the particular war involving Megs and Optimus...

Rob you play nice! Not everyone knows much about TF's so be good or I'll put you into the playpen by yourself! No need to call people names.

And Cybertron (in the first issue of the comic) is stated as being a 'saturn sized' world, and it is later established that 'Unicron' came from the same beginnings as Cybertron (both were metallic asteroids invaded by God-like beings- Primus for the forces of light who created the TFs and Unicron) so Uni would be about the same size.

there are many more behind the scenes, the original comics (mostly UK) showed many many non-toy transformers

so he amount of TFs would be millions, maybe billions, and not all Cybertronians are on Cybertron (Junkions for example)

But we do see huge armies. I mean, in comics we do.

Cybertron is Saturn-sized in comics, as opposed to cartoon where it looks smaller than Earth.

A cartoon fan, eh? :)

EDIT: Slow typer, me. Where is it stated that Junkions and Lithonians are from Cybertron?

Well Lithonians I think were meant to be a separate race, but the Junkions were certainly identified as 'Autobots' by the cartoon, so I guess we can assume they are some ancient off-shoot of the Cybertronian bots (as theyre all basically good guys, all transform and have... beards... and moustaches... and stuff).

Cartoon fan? Yeah. A lot of this is me trying to piece together some vague memories from cartoons and comics I read ten years ago.

As for the size thing, I've seen the pics of Primus as an unfolded Cybertron. (Pretty cool, IMO) But Unicron is very clearly not the the same size as Cybertron. I remember the comics where he actually stood on the surface of Cybertron while the Transformers tried to fight him off. And while he is indeed a titan, he's not the same size.

Keep in mind that's a preliminary drawing from the company Dreamwave and has no rightful place in the Marvel's run of the Transformers be it US, or UK.

in a flashback we see the two asteroids from which both are made and they are certainly comparable sizes.

Unicron may well shrink when he transforms to winged demon mode.

Dick?

Ok, G1wise, in the first issue there were billions of TFs, and by the last one there were thousands (fitting aboard 6 starships).

In other words, war is a very bad thing.

Unless you're after an efficient way of remedying overpopulation, thus conserving resources for future biomorphically-reproduced generations?
Grrr. Argh.
