MTMTE is old enough for a midlife crisis! Just in time for all of us to have our midlife crises!

I dare you to read the first page and not feel a major ache.

Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

He popped up in the previous IDW TF ongoing.

What an issue!

So good, I took to Twitter to yell about how awesome it was. ...and then James Roberts favorited AND retweeted the comment. Woo!

...it's not gonna be six or more weeks until the next issue, is it?

Does Getaway have eyes for Cyclonus...or Tailgate?

There are so many fantastic moments in that issue it beggars belief.

Nautica's wrench. Ravage being Ravage. Megatron's poetry. Rodimus playing Scrabble with Magnus' nameplate. Tailgate, Cyclonus and Getaway. "Visages". Everything Ratchet does or says.

Oh and Ten's Mural.

Ten's frakking amazing mural.

However I have a feeling this joy bubble is going to be burst pretty damn hard next issue.

Such feels.

I wonder if Ratchet is gone for good. Clearly this is leading up to his appearance in the recent Drift series. I hope he wont be moving to RID so they can shoehorn into Combiner Wars.

Continuity wise it feels a bit off too. First Aid is still on the Lost Light despite being farmed out for Combiner Wars. I doubt Rodimus would send the ships only medical officer so I assume that is happening before this story,

Also has anyone ever written a finer Ratchet? No mean feat as he's one of the few characters that comes off well in most continuities.

I'm not sold on the Nautica scene at all - she grew up on Caminus without the war, so I don't really understand why she'd be upset that Brainstorm turned out to be a member of one group of Transformers that had no effect on her life whatsoever as opposed to being from another group of Transformers that had no effect on her life whatsoever. Why would she care more than, say, literally any other member of the Lost Light's crew (apart from Megatron and Ravage) who all spent four million years fighting the 'Cons?

Nautica isn't pissed that Brainstorm is a Decepticon. Nautica is pissed that someone she idolized lied to her, poisoned the entire crew, potentially tried to wipe out history, and create a new history that may not have included Nautica if Cybertronians never expanded or colonized new worlds.

If anything her anger is understated.

Eh, I dunno, maybe I'm reading it wrong, but it seems like she reacts to the word "Decepticon" - maybe it's just the way it's laid out but it just seems odd that out of a room full of 'bots who have been personally invested in a war against these guys forever, hearing Brainstorm admit that he is an undercover agent makes her feel betrayed the most. When she's been on the ship for, like, six months while the war's been over. I mean, yes, she was friends with him, but the others have known him for millions of years, he's worked in Kimia and the Institute and all of their really top-secret places and even Prowl didn't root him out.

Plus, I'm pretty sure that the colony Titans left Cybertron long before Megatron was created so even in the other timeline Caminus would have continued as it was, presumably leading to the creation of Nautica as before. She really does have the least stake in Brainstorm out of everybody except Ravage. Eh, it's a minor thing considering it's resolved a few pages down the line but it just sticks out as something that doesn't really make sense to me.

I am kinda chuffed that one of my favourite Leonard Cohen songs led to me guessing the ending for, like, the first time ever.

Anyone else really missing those two pages?

Loved it.

I feel like we know these guys now, despite the large size of the cast.

Which upon reflection, has been something missing from most TF comics since the early Marvel days. I think it's strange that I'm getting vibes of Marvel G1 from thirty years ago, despite the writing being far superior with Roberts.

I think what it is is that most writers miss what makes TF comics great. It's not the transforming. It's not thE battles. It's the characters. The other stuff is neat, but it can't be the focus. You gotta know and love the characters.

This issue is the calm before the next storm.

The crew has really managed to create powerful enemies that want to see them dead. The DJD. Tyrest, Pharma, and Star Saber. Ammonites. Gigatron. Who they gonna piss off next, I wonder?

Yaya'a kinda hit it on the head for me, this issue really reminds me of "Eye of the Storm" more than anything else, except instead of Prime walking through the Ark and worrying that his warriors are unprepared for the horror that he knows awaits them, it's us looking at the Lost Light's crew and knowing that they're woefully unprepared for what lies ahead.

Also, Getaway's really creepy.

Get thirty people in a room, and you've got the Lost Light. I'd say the crew is an accurate depiction of what's out there in the general population if you took a random slice of it. There's going to be an obsessive-compulsive type. There's going to be the laid back, bend the rules type. There's going to be the anxious type. The selfish type. The traitor. The loyal friend. The religious one. The anti-religious one. The paranoid one. Even the creepy Getaway type.

Really, the Lost Light is a reflection of humanity. Which is why it connects with the reader.

Bottom line, MTMTE is more human than most human-based comic stories out there.

Huh. Missed that. And he's quite obvious. Anybody know a good eye doctor?

So, was he a part of that story, or is this a new revelation? I don't seem to remember him being part of Simon's run.

That plotline wasn't part of Simon's run, it was part of what immediately followed, All Hail Megatron. Basically Bombshell's involvement meant that Hunter went from this to this.
