Reading order?

Post by Brendocon » Tue Mar 10, 2015 7:31 pm

Right, ignoring "hilarious" responses about how I don't need to read RiD/Dark Cybertron at all actually lol:

MTMTE vol 1-5
RiD vol 1-5
Dark Cybertron
vol 6/vol 6

Yeah?

Is there any overlap between MTMTE and RID which means I need to read specific issues of one series before the other?

Is there anything integral in the pre-DC Spotlight issues (which helpfully don't appear to be in the Humble Bundle deal)?

THANKS.
Grrr. Argh.

Looks kinda right

Make sure you start with Death of Optimus Prime though

In fact, the James Robert penned issues of Chaos are worth reading too

RiD really doesn't affect MTMTE at all off the top of my head, so I'd steer clear cause it really is pony.

Up to you thought innit.

I would read the Trailbreaker spotlight issue myself. Not critical, but I found it to be well written and it has a certain poignancy as the greater MTMTE plot develops.

Otherwise, I'd start with Last Stand of the Wreckers, then Death of Optimus Prime, then MTMTE, Dark Cybertron, and then back on the MTMTE train.

The Dark Cybertron RiD issues should fill in the knowledge gaps necessary to fully understand how Season 2 of MTMTE begins.

Spotlight: Hoist is pretty good, Spotlight: Trailbreaker I think is essential. Read them at some point before Remain in Light.

Chaos Theory is kind of necessary as well, I'd start there, then LSotW, then DoOP.

Good luck.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Thanks chaps.

What's Remain in Light? The docs are compiled as trades and don't have arc names slapped on them. :/

I've already read LSOTW and think I have Chaos Theory knocking about somewhere. Anybody know if there's a way I can get the Trailbreaker issue digitally that doesn't involve signing up for Comixology or anything like that? Only reasons I got the Humble Bundle were because I thought it was everything and because I could have them as straight PDFs.

Cheers. :)

Remain in Light is the 5 issue arc.just before Dark Cybertron.

Vol. 5, specifically.

The Trailbreaker, Orion Pax and Hoist spotlights were collected in a thing called "Dark Prelude." it's skippable but also goes form something like 7$ on Amazon here, so fairly easy find used anywhere, and the Roberts-penned Spotlights are great.

RiD had its moments. It's actually a lot worse now that it's back on Earth in Costa territory, shilling for Combiner Wars toys. Just don't expect MTMTE--expect a rather mediocre comic that gestures toward great stories and then drifts away from them.

Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

RiD is an above average version of what non-fans expect Transformers comics to be.

MTMTE is what nobody *but* James Roberts ever even *thought* Transformers comics *could* be. It's unfair to even compare the two. It's like comparing Batman Forever to The Dark Knight. The cross-over (which was fine) did RiD absolutely no favors.

But yeah, so long as you've read up to RiD 21 before you read the text story at the end of MTMTE 21, you're golden.

I have issues with RiD being called average.

Average to me suggests it is readable.

Some issues of Regen are average.

Nothing in RiD is near to being as readable as anything in Regen.

RiD is plain bad if you ask me.

The dialogue is ******* terrible.

The logic leaps are often stupefying

And they're systematically arse raping Prowl.

Agreed. RID is Below Average. Just below something like the Drift miniseries. In fact, I'd have to say I enjoyed AHM better than RID.

Regeneration was Good

MTMTE Fantastic.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

Thanks for assistance and clarification, boys. Am now sorted out with assorted Spotlights as well and will be able to crack on and finally read this stuff as soon as I've finished this week's Marvel/Image singles.

And Stray Bullets.
And this Walking Dead hardcover.
And the most recent volume of Chew.
And the third Grandville book.
And RASL.
And volume 10 of Hellblazer.
And...

Will of course keep you all updated as to my progress. :)

Be warned, if your first exposure to RiD is the Dark Cybertron cross-over, the difference in quality *will* slam you, full-force, in the face.

It's even more jarring than the incredibly different art styles used for different locations.
