You know, I sort of skimmed Dark Cybertron recently trying only to read the more Roberts-ish parts (in the service of my continued project to write just like the man) and the scene between Chromedome and Prowl, in which Prowl kind of comes on to Chromedome, is fairly amazing. I think it's in Part 10... the one Milne drew, and because of the "lull in the action" premise of the story, about the only part worth reading.

Or do one big poo in the morning and another one in the afternoon. I bet they weren't even excited by and then subsequently disappointed by Star Wars Prequels. Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

all the more dissapointing though i think - that some decent croutons of character are lost in the flavourless crossover soup.

Re: When the **** is 32 out?
Also, just noticed (aka reread 28 onwards on the plane this morning) that even before the flash in Rung's office stuff was dissapearing. Nautica references fuel rods dissapearing at the start of the issue.
Plus lots of chat from Meg's and Rung about editing the past.
Like the idea about the LL Crew having got the message and this is the result - only thought is where does the briefcase or whatever universal edity thingy was in it comes in...

Re: When the **** is 32 out?
I've been thinking about this, and as far as we've seen, the only person (aside from Brainstorm) who has had access to the briefcase was Swerve during the Remain in Light finale, and then the text story afterwards featured a scene where Brainstorm impressed upon Swerve the catastrophic results should anyone ever open the briefcase. Which doesn't seem like a coincidence.Bestifirstimus Prime wrote:Like the idea about the LL Crew having got the message and this is the result - only thought is where does the briefcase or whatever universal edity thingy was in it comes in...
I've also gone back and checked the message from issue #1 and it's clear that whoever sent it was one of the original LL crew, not Rodimus or Skids as they're both referred to by name in it, and because they say "if...we've already left" referring to Rodimus being in charge. And from the tone of voice, I would peg it as either Swerve or Brainstorm.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

If they changed the past, would that mean Tyrest succeeded? And if so, what does that bode for Ravage?
I'll have to re-read the prior issues again (oh darn) because something about The Lost Light's mysterious past and it's powerful quantum engines seems to play a part as well.

Well Nautica (damn, I think Nautica's great) helpfully gave us a lecture on how the quantum engines work, revolving around the "conceptual heft" of moving from one place to another, in essence they work the same way as the Infinite Improbability Drive from the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which is even more impressive because James Roberts hasn't read H2G2 and apparently came up with the idea independently. When someone who hasn't read Douglas Adams has Douglas Adams-like ideas, I consider that a very good thing indeed.Computron wrote:something about The Lost Light's mysterious past and it's powerful quantum engines seems to play a part as well.
But yeah, beyond that it's all kinda vague. If there was the idea that the Lost Light should be here but thanks to Ore getting in the way it ended up over here instead, if the stream was somehow duplicated - perhaps because of briefcase intervention - might the original idea of the Lost Light have continued on its way? It's all getting metaphysical, heavy emphasis on the meta.

Might have to refer to the TF Wiki to sort all this out so far.

Nautica mentions that it is possible the engines literally eliminated themselves from reality because of something ridiculously improbable occuring and therefore it proved itself impossible.Metal Vendetta wrote:Well Nautica (damn, I think Nautica's great) helpfully gave us a lecture on how the quantum engines work, revolving around the "conceptual heft" of moving from one place to another, in essence they work the same way as the Infinite Improbability Drive from the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which is even more impressive because James Roberts hasn't read H2G2 and apparently came up with the idea independently. So in that vein what is the most improbable thing that can happen? I would venture Brainstorm's briefcase changing the past might do the trick.
But here is a crazier thought and I cant believe I didnt think of this sooner. What is the first rule of time travel in the TF universe?
You displace equal mass when you travel.
Remember Optimus chilling in null space in the UK comics?
The alt LL crew jumped into our universe and displaced our real LL crew. They gotta use brainstorms briefcase to rearrange things and move the alt LL back.
It would fit Roberts' motif.

Oooh awesome, but not sure it holds up with the dumb and confusing RiD time travel arc.

RiD IS the improbable event. In that it can continue exist in two separate universes with MTMTE.

Re: When the **** is 32 out?
Be intrigued to see if this pays any heed to Dark Cybertron (assuming we are looking at some kind of alternate timeline) or just basically ignores it.
This issue has basically caused me to go back and reread the whole of MTMTE

I felt the same need. But am too lazy to do so.Best First wrote:

So....any new insights with a reread? Or is it still nebulous at this point?

Re: When the **** is 32 out?
Weird tangent:
I was listening to Eels (they have some badboy tunes) decided to check out E on Wikipedia.
Turns out his dad was a famous physicist called Hugh Everett III... and the first physicist to propose the "many-worlds interpretation" (MWI) of quantum physics.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Many-worlds_interpretation
This little chunk is from the above link:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The universe decaying to a new vacuum state
Any event that changes the number of observers in the universe may have experimental consequences. Quantum tunnelling (Quantum tunnelling refers to the quantum mechanical phenomenon where a particle tunnels through a barrier that it classically could not surmount) to a new vacuum state would reduce the number of observers to zero (i.e., kill all life).
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't really know what I'm talking about or attempting to prove or whatever... just found it interesting (vaguely) Somebody wake up Paul, he's a clever sod. Maybe he can tell us what it might mean.
Has James put any Eels songs in his recent twitter playlists?

Oooh. Hm. I quite like Eels as well (Cancer For The Cure was one of those secret-weapon-songs of high school) but I haven't seen them in Roberts' twitter.

I remember he made a documentary about his father a few years back, as he'd been a typical rebel-against-parents type and not interested in his father's work before he died.snarl wrote:Weird tangent:
