MTMTE #25

Post by Computron » Wed Jan 15, 2014 8:22 pm

First time I've really felt like less than nothing happened.

Cybertron stuff was just pathetically awful, especially the Slag/Slug debacle. I mean just wow, this is below fan-fic levels. The art was poor, and the dialogue, well, whatever, we can rehash that all day long. TL:DR, it sucked.

Lost Light art was great, dialogue of course is great, but nothing happened. A lot of running around but it just made everything feel kinda like filler.

Dead Universe stuff.

:ugh:

And who was that bot at the end of the issue? Was he supposed to be someone we recognize?

Parts of it I enjoyed. Other's not so much. Must say though I'm starting to really miss that buzz you'd get when the latest MTMTE issue hits Comixology. I'm starting to feel a similar level of disinterest that I did during the McCarthy/Costa saga.

So onto the issue, yup the Slag/Slug conversation was horrible. As was Astrotrain (rather ludicrously) carrying binoculars around because he's short-sighted (since when do transformers' need glasses?!). And hey, while we're at it, let's randomly shoehorn in another character (hi Tankor!) simple because he's got a toy due. It's getting a little sad really.

On the bright side, the MTMTE moments were fun as ever, and enjoyed the voyage through Metroplex. I'm also glad to see a significant casualty in the form of Hardhead, and happy we've finally had an explanation as to why Nova Prime couldn't leave via the Gorlan Prime portal.

Not sure who the bot at the end is either - looks a bit like Drift, innit?

I liked the trip through Metroplex too. Just wish we didnt have to waste pages on RiD stuff. Would have made the Metroplex voyage better to have more pages dedicated to a solid conclusion or reveal. As it stands tho the Metroplex stuff had a proper horror vibe that I likes a lot.

I'll have to check again and see if it looks like Drift. Good thought.

Edit - Is that Kup?

Good shout! He appears in a flashback in the first issue so it's gotta be him.

I only guessed it because the IDW boards seemed to conclude it was him. Otherwise I'd be lost.

Yup, horrible.

Beginning of Issue : Pax, Rodimus, Cyclonus, Hardhead in a box!
End of Issue: Still in a box. Minus Hardhead.

Beginning of Issue: 'Bots inside a dead-for-some-reason Metroplex in the Rodpod!
End of Issue: 'Bots still inside a dead-for-some-reason Metroplex. Minus Rodpod.

Beginning of Issue: OMG, Zombie Titan is destroying everything!
End of Issue: OMG, Zombie Titan is destroying everything!

Was nice to see a pit of Nova/Pax dialogue, but aside from that, this issue is massive "meh."

Wow. That dialogue from Barber was horrible. Like Computron says, it was worse than fanfic. I've pretty concluded that his dialogue is worse than Costa even.

If only Roberts had been given Shockwave instead of Barber I might have had something to look forward too besides utter inevitable disappointment.

If that is Kup at the end, where did we see him last? I can't recall
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

I believe it was that weird zombie crossover issue that Dan Abnett wrote. I passed the issue so don't know exactly what happened to him, but seem to remember it had something to do with him being stuck in another dimension.

Six issues, I think. I met him in Games Workshop the day the first one came out, I was begging him to write them like he does 40K - or even Dry Run - but they were, for the most part, a bit arse.

**** me, Arcee's now Barber's spokeperson for gender politics in the G1 universe? And since when would Slag give a flying **** either way that his name was offensive? Christ on a ****ing bike, this has got to be the nadir of the IDW run.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

How is the name stag even slightly offensive to a genderless race of robots?

That must make Beast Wars the Transformers equivalent of Deadwood in terms of repeated use of foul language. Rhinox alone is Al Swearengen.

Well that was Abnett.
I'll have to go read that again. Abnett work on warhammer 40k is nothing short of brilliant, but I sense transformers aren't his thing?

Jesus, this suffers from moments of epic gashness.
