MTMTE #22 (Spoilers)
Post

First off, I enjoyed it. It was sweet and sentimental and definitely had an air of innocence prior to the storm that is presumably coming. Overally I enjoyed the art. Yea it is different than Milnes, but I prefer Raiz's Ultra Magnus to Milne's in all honesty. Both are brilliant don't get me wrong, but Raiz's Magnus looks like he will absolutely wreck you.
After Rewind asked if "Are you happy?" that panel of Drift was devastating. Loved it. Loooooooooooooooooved it.
"The Dark Cyclops" - Shockwave? Unicron's planet mode? Whirl?

Wonderful stuff.
The dick-slapping between Rodimus, Thunderclash, Skids, Whirl and the Ammonites was hilarious. It's a real strength of Roberts writing that he can poke fun in the ridiculousness of everything without detracting from what makes it important.
The alt mode party made me lol.
Thunderclash is clearly modelled on Ace Rimmer
I feel sad that this cast wont be together for "season 2". I miss Rewind and Drift. I never thought I would miss Drift.

For me it was pleasingly enjoyable - but in honesty I would've preferred the prose from end of last issue to have been executed here in comic format, rather than a sentimental filler story.
Felt a bit like one of those anime episodes where they fill you in on everything that's already happened!

I like that MTMTE: The Movie is depicted as all "dark and gritty". Just like the last time a TF franchise made it to the screen.

Didn't really dislike it, but a bit too self aware for me, verging on overindulgence.
It was good, in an earthforce way, but also throwaway, which is annoying.
Seen some people criticising the art, main bugbear being "It doesn't look like Milne's, ergo it's bad"
I really liked the art, and think the types of people described above are ***** - ***** who should be shunted into a vast kiln.

Loved this. Especially the play between Rodimus and Thunderclash.
Thunderclash is hilarious.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

The flames on his chest were painted by Sergio Georgio.

Loved the writing, especially the race of robots whose civil war/abilities are even more ridiculous than the TFs. The art was a major mismatch, though. Not bad, just a huge, huge mismatch. This was a light, quirky story, and it needed Milne, Roche, or at least Padilla.

Or do one big poo in the morning and another one in the afternoon. I bet they weren't even excited by and then subsequently disappointed by Star Wars Prequels. Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

i also really, really, really felt that the last page, which is the wistful end of "season 1" should have been drawn by Milne even if the rest of the issue wasn't.
Still LOVED IT tho.

Loved it. I was giggling throughout. The art was lifeless and unfitting, though.
Oh, and I feel like this upcoming Mini-Con combiner has some connection with this issue:

A question guys.
I've been following this on the trades. My question is, where do I go next? I assume the MTMTE comic is still going? How does it tie in with Dark Cybertron - do I need to read that?
Blessing you in advance. x

It is still going. Basically Dark Cybertron was a crossover story that alternated between RiD and MTMTE. Thus if you only get MTMTE you will miss half the story.
At best Dark Cybertron is mostly forgettable but it does lead to some major story changes, especially for season 2 of MTMTE, so I guess reading it may be necessary to avoid confusion.

Ick, an annoying crossover.
Thanks though, it'll be great to see MTMTE run and run.

I skipped pretty much all of Dark Cybertron, relying instead on these review threads and TF wiki summaries to get by. I'm not too worried about picking up the storyline come Wednesday - presumably anything major that refers back to the crossover will be mentioned in a caption box or on the wiki.

Agree - you can skip it and we can fill in the gaps.
Altho when the answers don't quite make sense don't assume it is us!

You're doing a good job of putting me off it, but aren't parts of DC written by James Roberts?
I don't read RID, and its a shame I'm missing stuff. I'm hoping like its like Amazing/Spectacular Spidey back in the day, where you don't miss out on too much by sticking with the 'main' title.

Parts of it are written by Roberts, and there are flashes of MTMTE style brilliance in it at times, but overall he's hamstrung by the DC plot and there isn't much he can do about it.

So is DC finished yet?
How confuzzled am I going to be when I pick up MTMTE again?
Did I mention I really don't like crossovers?

DC is very much over, and I advise getting back in as soon as possible. The past few issues have been magnificent.
I think all you really need to know heading in to Season 2 of MTMTE would be the end of Dark Cybertron, specifically Megatron's fate. The rest is either explained in MTMTE itself or is self evident. (Spoiler alert, Cybertron obviously survived)

"Squandered" is a bit harsh. I think we all, to a person, enjoyed every last moment of it.
