So my hypothesis that Magnus or Tailgate's condition could be cured if they were a point one percenter and got an ununium infusion seems to be panning out? If that spark was greener it'd be eligible to join the Constructicons.

Argh, the wait is killing me. So, random speculation time!

Given that we saw "Magnus" as the Lost Light crew were being shepherded into the cells and he ignored them, does that mean that Tyrest already has a new inner 'bot installed? And, well, I just wanna put it out there that I think, by the end of Remain in Light that we will have a new "Magnus" inside the armour. I reckon it'll be Tailgate.

oooh... That's a good call actually.

His inner Energon was piss coloured, which seems to suggest .1% or whatever.

And he re-booted after being ****** up for millions of years too, so he's pretty durable.

And there's the whole his body dying thing.

Anyone know why there's been such a big delay on this issue? Judging from the lack of preview I'm assuming it's not out today.

Regarding the revelations with Ultra Magnus - I have mixed feelings. I'm hoping James will be offering an awesome explanation, but I can't fathom why 'Ultra Magnus' is a suit of an armour, especially when it's been established that sparks can be transferred from body to body with relative ease - seems backwards to me, y'know? And surely when Ratchet was inspecting Magnus after his encounter with Overlord he would've noticed something odd like a lil' bot inside him!

On the plus side, I think it's an interesting spin on the character - I reckon the 'Magnus' character is some kind of Autobot war symbol/hero kept alive to help boost morale.

Thorough explanation of what's happening with Magnus, but I'm a little concerned that it takes up about a third of the issue.

Er.... Holy cow.

That was dense.

Not a complaint to be clear.

Loved the arrival of a certain escape artiste. Altho he doesn't seem to be doing too well on that front.

Well, some gobsmacking stuff.

* I've been kinda waiting for Ambulon to be offed ever since he appeared. There's still a little hope for him, of course, but he's by far the most disposable character - never turned up on the Meet the Cast page, his secrets/background all exposed, no particularly unique function, no toy, author-created character etc.

* Much more surprising is what happened to Ambus. Could this really be the end for UM? Whatever the durability of TFs, have any yet recovered from no head at all?

* From his description, Tyrest seems to have given himself a psychosis. He started off self-harming, and then he trepanned himself. Trepanning is linked, in pseudo-science, to achieving a state of higher consciousness because of the increased blood flow to the brain. What you're actually doing, as with any direct interference with the brain, is risking derangement, as your screwing with all the mechanisms by which your brain interprets and decodes the information flowing in through your senses. So Tyrest, I think, is officially psychotic, with clear medical reasons - not just an evil lunatic like Pharma. It looks like guilt drove him towards increasing mental instability.

* Ethnic cleansing ahoy, eh? Things just got really, really dark. Also, casting someone genuinely mentally disturbed as the main bad guy is stepping into some slightly iffy territory. It makes for a good story, but is oddly detached from our own reality, where people with mental/self-harm problems are usually weak and powerless, and it's the apathy, detachment and boorish conceit of the powerful that continually leads to sophisticated mechanisms of mass murder. I guess I was kind of hoping Tyrest would be more in that mould - a vain lawmaker who uses a system of arbitrary moral 'enforcement' to tyrannise his people.

* Whirl and Cyclonus' dialogue was great.

* Kind of disappointing that the Lost Light has been conquered. Would have thought Fortress Maximus alone could have held out for a long time against the Legislators.

Well to be fair, we don't know just how many legislators the Lost Light crew took down before being overwhelmed. Dai Atlas did mention that a bunch of the Circle got melted down into new legislators, so it stands to reason Tyrest sent a ton of em at the Lost Light.

Anyways.

Wow. That was a trip. Can I just say that Pharma is the Joker? Poor Ambulon, but that panel was just devastating art. A lot of praise to Milne for not only that piece, but the entire issue. Also, the panel where Ratchet's head and Pharma's head are nearly touching and Pharma has that psychotic Joker grin on his face is just mesmerizing.

Loved the Cyclonus/Whirl elements.

edit: Oh and the new dynamic on Forged v. Constructed Cold is wonderful on a bunch of levels. Robert's writing immediately reminded me of G2 and the Swarm in a way. Namely, that by abusing the creation process, an amoral/evil force was being created. Of course that doesn't explain that there are plenty of forged transformers that are patently evil, but whatever.

As usual my only complaint is that it'll be weeks before the next issue, and it looks like things are really heating up to something special. I also fear what the casualty count is going to be before things wrap up.

Slighty off the wall - if Magnus was "not real" could it equally be the case that Star Sabre is "not real"? He has the equivical mass.

Anyone think of anyone who was a bit religous and handy with sword? Hmm?

Just a thought.

Some interesting speculation on the IDW board about there being some kind of link between Tyrest and Overlord as well.

Oooo that is interesting. Would Drift go that wacky though? Yea he was exiled, but only cause of his actions.

I am of the opinion that Star Saber is just him, the ******* religious nutter who has been around for ages. Magnus armour seems to have been inspired by the original bot as a one off concept: a one of a kind super soldier who is the epitome of the heroic autbot. I looked at him like a TF Captain America.

Star Sabre I expect has just been around for eons being a nutter, and is only being brought in now as Tyrest has recently gone doolally. A reflection of Tyrest's mental state.

Can we assume Tyrest going mad is recent? I think so, seeing as UM was in contact with him till 18 months ago and was baffed with all the holes.

Star Saber having AT LEAST one other character under the hood would make sense, strictly speaking...

Turning Drift, the ultimate Japanese TF wannabe turn into Star Saber, the Japanese TF all other Japanese TFs want to be would be incredible.

Absolutely loving Tyrest's "I got religion after drilling a hole in my brain" schtick. I see it's already irked at least one religionist over on IDW who's moaning "Why can't we have a character who believes in Primus who isn't crazy?", since apparently they can't remember as far back as the ****ing annual or anything.
