OMG THE LAST COUPLE OF PAGES. So, are we officially reading Regeneration 2 now? OMG. Maybe we'll even get a rework of Alignment!
Nice look for Jhiaxus' Cybertronians too. And a cool nod to Eugenesis.
Some lines from characters seemed forced (Optimus, what was with that Galvatron line? It was unnecessary and cheesy)
We're starting to see it shape up, looking forward to the next story arc more than what's gone previously. Nice to see Soundwave and Bludgeon's arc finally picking up.

I'm guessing that Simon originally had the g2 storyline in the works for the remaining issues of the original Marvel run, and has reintroduced it here in a (seen through nostalgic eyes) way to "tell it like I wanted to."
But Si Fur does get better the closer he gets to wrapping up a bunch of plots in stellar cosmic fashion.

Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

I thought Wildman, Baskerville & Bove were knocking it out of the park here, just looking at the Galvatron flashback gave me chills. Lovely stuff. I quite enjoyed the return of Jhiaxus as well, he's always an entertaining villain and I really like his G2 look over his hunchbacked IDW self.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

I've finally caught up with the last couple of issues of this and I've been rather impressed, actually. The end of this one did send a little shiver up my spine, since G2 is love. Rook's new look was pretty good as well - truly a new generation of Cybertronian. In fact it reminds me of the Beast Machines Vehicons in a (very good) way.
This came out last week didn't it? It was a good issue from recollection - really enjoying the different plot lines bubbling along in parallel.
I only read G2 when I was grown up, so guess I don't fully appreciate Jihaxus's appearance as much as you. Can we have Impactor back too please?

I don't care for how Furman is introducing elements from G2 and Marvel UK, often treating them as firmly set in the Universe already (Ultra Magnus, Jhiaxus and the Wreckers are the prime example) while ignoring the continuities.
Also, while Bove is a good colorist his work doesn't help make the thing look 80s. I'm hoping they bring in Burcham since his cell-shaded work is probably more faithful in that regard . Also color Soundwave pink and Kup blue while we are at it. The cartoon this ain't.

Yes, Wildman drew a mighty and powerful Jhiaxus here in the tradition of Yaniger--loved it. Now if only we could get some art from Senior or Yaniger to truly round things out.Metal Vendetta wrote:I thought Wildman, Baskerville & Bove were knocking it out of the park here, just looking at the Galvatron flashback gave me chills. BTW, is anyone buying the trades of ReGen One? Do the trades have the Senior incentive covers in the art section at the back?

See, my complaint was that it wasn't incorporating enough inspiration from and nods to Marvel UK, and incorporating G2 can only be a good thing for me, as I always disliked how rushed the ending of G2 was, lacking its intended conclusion.Snarler wrote:I don't care for how Furman is introducing elements from G2 and Marvel UK, often treating them as firmly set in the Universe already
(Take for example how everyone in that set of stories knew Galvatron was the future Megatron because of Time Wars, I'd have preferred Furman to leave that more ambiguous as to whether Optimus remembered the events of those stories rather than have him just "know" Galvatron was Megatron for absolutely no good reason he possibly could know it in the US stories, at the same time as explicitly stating that this Optimus hadn't faced Galvatron before. That does BOTH groups of readers a disservice.
Remember, most of the readers of Regen 1 are fans who have been into the fandom for a long, long time. And among us, the Americans have, in my experience, for the most part experienced the UK stories long ago. Most of these aspects like the Wreckers are well established staples of Transformers these days. To the point where Hasbro see them as having so much recognition that they make TOYS of the team. )

The UK stories have probably never been more widely available so Simon's decision to ignore them for Regen One baffled me. However, with Prime's recognition of Galvatron, not to mention appearances by Auntie and Robot Buster, I can continue to pretend that actually the UK stories are included, and he's just not told anyone...

Plus the solicitations for the upcoming Magnus/Galvatron showdown are effectively selling it as the 'rematch' we've all been waiting for - in other words playing off of our association with the UK stories.
How much better it would it be if they were in continuity? A maddened Magnus driven by his previous defeats and a confused Galvatron wondering what it is he's done to arouse such hatred ("Time Wars? A different Galvatron I think!").

Urge to pimp my ultimate guide to all the divergent transformers Marvel UK timelines again. (Now with "Target 2006 and Cyclonus' Armada", and "Whatever happened to Death's Head" appendices)
With all the points of divergence carefully noted, and each story sorted according to which timeline(s) it occurs in (The Movie future, the "Last time" future, the "Time wars" future, the "Aspects of Evil" future, the "Rhythms of Darkness" future, etc.) and issue numbers sorted in columns for main and backup strips (Even managed to fit all the Earthforce stories in by tying different stories to a couple of different timelines).
I should get round to making a download more easily available with all my in-depth descriptions of how I worked it all out and how each of the timelines is explained.
Outdated version with some errors I've corrected in later versions available here: http://www.washu.co.uk/misc/transformerstimelines.html

Really enjoying these last few issues. As snarlos said above, they seem to be more like the original run than previous issues.
One thing is certain. The conclusion to this thing is going to be beyond epic. Even for Simon, I don't know how's he's going to address all these threads in one cataclysmic orgy of epicness. Optimus. Magnus. Galvatron. Shockwave. Bludgeon. Thunderwing. Jhiaxus. Starscream. And now, it looks like we can throw Grimmers and Scorpy back into the mix as well (which is nice).
And it looks like Blaster gets some time in the spotlight next ish. I was surprised by that because Blaster never really was a Furman favorite and he was more Budiansky's baby than anyone else's. I would forever give credit to Simon if he writes Blaster the same way as an homage to Budiansky. I freakin loved Uncle Bob's Blaster! To see him back would be insanely cool for me.
I said it before, and was shot down for it, but I still think these issues should have been colored in that "dot" format that 80's comics used to have. It would just add so much more to that nostalgic vibe. I mean, we know they can do it, because Guido's covers and the RID annual were printed in such a fashion.
Really enjoying this now and fully glad it exists. Apprehensions and disappoint are quickly fading and I find myself actually sad to see #100 coming up so soon.
Anybody else want to see this thing continue on or should it be #100 and done?

"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

Nah, the VASTLY superior colouring of the UK stories was what I loved. The dots just stank of cheap and nasty US reprints. Didn't help the stories were almost always inferior in those ones. Probably set up a poor association in my six year old mind right from the outset.Yaya wrote: I said it before, and was shot down for it, but I still think these issues should have been colored in that "dot" format that 80's comics used to have.
