RID 7

Right, I think I haven't created a duplicate thread this time...

An issue of two halfs. The Turmoil stuff was bollocks. Especially in comparison to the shock return in MTMTE. He even seemed to be talking like a cut price version of that character. Bad timing to an extent- a genuine fan favourite Steals the thunder of a no one who looks like the Fallen after a pie eating contest- but we're still talking about a guy who manages to loose despite having a time machine. That's so inept as to make the shock and awe with which everyone treats him unintentionally hilarious.

But the Metal Hawk reveal was great, unexpected but made perfect sense and it was nice to have his cards on the table at last. And he's on the side of the angels after all. Throw in a decent Wheeljack and the issue winds up working out OK. No more Turmoil though.

some of it was really logically fraught for me.

Unless i have missed it, why would there have been eny impetus to tell Metalhawk about Drift? "Guys, we really should have just randomly volunteered som einformation i feel so bad"

And equally the whole "they died because of us" - what? really? They just died because Turmoil is a Decepticock surely?

Ok, but there is a bit too much stuff that is told rather than shown for me. Which reminds me of Costa. Which is not what i want out of life or comics.

Yeah, that whole side of things suffered badly from show don't tell. Some flashbacks ( like wot we got in MTMTE) showing why this guy is so scary would have helped.

This series is such a mixture of great ideas and poor execution! Metalhawk finally gets some well-needed characterization. Wheeljack is goood (even with a hole all the way through him). Starscream gets screen time, thank Primus, with some great lines. Prowl is still Captain Shoot First, but at least he's consistent.

But... time machine wtf? Confused. Also, no one told Metalhawk that Drift was a former Decepticon? I was under the impression it was public knowledge. Maybe not everyone knew he was Deadshot or whatever his name was, but I remember lots of TFs talking all over the place about Drift.

Or do one big poo in the morning and another one in the afternoon. I bet they weren't even excited by and then subsequently disappointed by Star Wars Prequels. Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

So I've read this issue a couple of times now.

The first time I got really confused. The jumping between past and present wasn't especially clear and I completely missed the part where Wheeljack's riding his force field thingy at the start, leaving me totally perplexed when he defeated Turmoil with it (where did he get that from?!).

Second time, it was a little better. I actually think that, bad as Barber is at writing Prowl, he's hit Wheeljack on the head. I also noticed the aforementioned force field test at the start, though honestly a little more explanation around this could've helped a lot.

I'm pretty sure the aliens that build the time machine are the same species as the little dude that helped Wheelie in his spotlight - obviously nice from a continuity pov.

Overall I thought it was ok, still plenty of room for improvement and stuck in the shadow of MTMTE.

And one of them is on the planet Optimus Pax is going to. Couple that with the time machine very likely going to be behind the end of MTMTE 1 and there's some pre-planing been put into this. Which makes the lack of set up for Metalhawk having a traumatic Drift related past more annoying.

I have bought and read this.

That is all I have to say, other than I'm not sure it was worth the $3.99 for all the reasons highlighted. I'll stick with it a while longer though, I think.

He has a force field? Is that what that was? Is that how he defeated Turmoil? What were those last few panels showing at the end? Does Wheeljack now have the time machine? Is Turmoil dead?

These are questions that I seriously would like you guys to clarify for me.

Boy, was the whole Turmoil thing forced. The hackneyed Decepticon-butcher theme is just overdone. I was kind of hoping for a bit more of a twist beyond the standard Decepticon tyrant, but I guess that's really all he was in the Drift story.

I just don't feel that interested in the happenings in RID, to be honest. Yeah, it's better than what Costa and McCarthy did, but it's still not what I would call strong stuff. Good ideas with weak execution have become the theme with the series, unfortunately.

Give it a "C+". Confusing and average.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

For the record, I didn't think this was great.

It is starting to remind me of those "Mosaic" things a few of the people on the IDW board were doing.

Interesting idea, maybe "too cool for it's own good", and the execution wasn't great.

Again, not a fan of this art. The bots look fat. I feel the colouring should be more "grimy". Maybe get Dizzy Rascal circa 2003 to do the colouring.

Think that's a very good description of this series. Seems very fan-made.
