Discovered the guy sitting across from me in the coffee shop today was a TF fan. It always starts so nicely. Then he said these things:

"I hate the new series that has Drift in it!"

"I loved the Drift miniseries! He was so cool, now he's like, all religious!"

"I can't read the old Marvel TF comics. There was never any good art."

I did not commit immediate murder upon him.

I find that in real life, a TF fan of any kind, is a kindred spirit.

But online the mental ones must be crushed.

Disagree. Met another (foreigner) TF fan awhile back. As it turned out, we both worked for the same company. But he was one of those guys who (despite spending money that I can't even conceive of putting towards a hobby) seemed to mostly enjoy disliking everything.

Here was the basic introduction.

(I was buying some (G1 JP era) TF from a hobby shop.)

Him: Oh, you're into Transformers?
Me: Yep!

Him: Me, too! Have you seen Animated?
(This was towards the end of the US run of the series)
Me: Yeah. Caught most of the episodes on YouTube.
Him: F***'n gay, right? I mean, what the hell?
Me: Uh...

Him: Have you seen the movies?
Me: Oh, yeah! It was kind of cool that Japan got the second one before any other country. Especially since we had to wait like a month to get the first one.
Him: Wish we hadn't gotten it at all. I mean, what the hell!?! Bay completely (etc, etc, etc)

Him: Have you read the IDW comics?
Me: Totally! Every few months, I get a big box of them delivered! The Furman run was great! And I'm really looking forward to reading Last Stand of the Wreckers!
Him: Total B.S. what that Costa guy has done to the series. And those movie-verse books? Total ****.
Me: Uh...why are you buying them?
Him: Buy? No way. I just download them. But they *****ing suck!

Me: Well...uh... Nice meeting you. Guess I'll see you at the next all-company meeting...

Him: Sends Friend Request.
Me: Accepts friend request.
Him: BITCH, BITCH, BITCH,
Me: Ignore user.

But not by continuing the read a book he doesn't like.

That is my absolute number one annoyance with other fans.

Didn't like the first movie? Why did you go to see the next two? Just to complain about them? Same with the TV shows. If you're not a fan after the first few episodes, find something better to do with your time than watching a children's program you don't enjoy so that you can whine about it to other adults.
