The last page of MTMTE 4 is great

Over the last 25 years the Transformers have appeared in media from the exquisite to the scribbled and been licensed to the responsible and the... Pat Lee. Discussion of all the branches of TF media within!

And I'm really enjoying Milne's art.

I never hated it per se, but toning down all the detail and "fixing the mouths"... yeah, really liking it.

And what the [composite word including 'f*ck'] is this? I don't know, but it looks cool...

Loved this issue so much. In a similar way to Furman on g1, Roberts doesn't patronise the readers. Instead he rewards us.

First Aid is wonderful here. I hope he survives and takes Ratchet's title, not that I want Ratchet to go anywhere because he's my favourite character and superbly written.

If Roberts can keep this quality up for a significant number of issues, will we be looking at the best ever Transformers comic?

Yes, it is very good - and we're yet to see Roberts going "epic" as well.

BTW, who else spotted Backstreet on page 14?

I think it's him anyway.

i've only read this on my iphone so far - i can't wait the extra day for the post to turn up so IDW is getting a double cash tap from me on this.

It's brilliant.

It's just a shame when Pipes dies i'll have to track down Roberts and chop him up into tiny little pieces. With a spoon. Oh well.

Seriously thought for a second that it was gonna be Overlord with that shadow.

I thought the same until I spotted the "horns".

Goddammit I've been in a pub quiz with the missus's workmates since work and haven't had a chance to pick this up yet but thank you all so much for not spoiling it and I'll be back tomorrow to rave about this.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Some good conjecture over at the IDW boards that the traitor mentioned might not be Drift.

Some people have mentioned Ambulon's seeming fading paint job which implies he used to be purple (the colour of evil!) but on the facebook commentary page Milne points out that Pharma also looks like he turns into a jet (the alt mode of evil!).

Obvioulsy if it turned out that either of them turned into a purple jet it would be nailed on.

Definitely loving Milne's art on this series - in aping (to an extent) Roche's stylings he has curbed his own worst excesses and come on leaps and bounds. In the scene whetre Cyclonon whacks Tailgate he almosyt looks Senior-esque.

Yeah. I said it.

Read it about 7 times now. Next one please. In which Pipes lives.

Poor Tailgate. He's probably one of the sweetest, most naive Transformers ever.

To see him shaking in fear after taking that beating was just

when he said "usual heroics" in the second issue i got the impression he might be vaugely baddass.

Seems not.

altho i guess now the one person he thought he could rely on has lied to him and beaten him up - he's pretty damn isolated.

SPOILERS HO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maximus' speech was awesome in a jar made of awesome. A totally unexpected and yet logical feeling dramatic last page return. Whilst I guess he was crouching to aim the missiles on his back the pose was bordering on the Pat Lee though.

After the fairly self contained nature of the first three issues it's nice to have a proper two (? Presumably if the first trade is the first five issues) parter, and everything pretty much flowed as well as ever. And lo, more fast story telling, again, a year ago Tailgate's arc would have been drawn out for months, here he learns the error of his ways almost instantly (though he doesn't chose to become an Autobot either, so I'd say what he was shown wasn't so biased as to bring him fully round).

First Aid was neat, and I especially liked the callback to Bullets and his interest in random Autobrands (complete with the one shot with the microfilm or whatever it was. Shame it's not clear here he was acting under secret orders rather than being genuinely nuts). Would it be too obvious that he'll be left in charge of whatever's left of Delphi as the new Autobot CMO when the dust settles? Pharma has "Secretly Evil" written all over him.

Pipes was good, the improv bar was nice (if nicked from BSG) and actual acknowledgement that Ratchet's character has changed drastically since Infiltration was most welcome. Overall, a top notch issue with improved art over last month as well.

Two more thoughts:

Is there any indication there's been any attempt at "Hey, we're alive!" contact with Cybertron? Their subspace equipment is clearly working and though there's a bit of a handwave about time lags it's slightly contradicted by First Aid's message reaching them within two days, and that previous issues have show interstellar communication to be pretty much instantaneous no matter where you are (though the -tion series did tend to treat the Universe as a slightly larger back garden).

With it being five year since Wreckers and other time jumps before that, what year is it supposed to be? The last confirmation of a date I can recall is the 2007 sings on that auto-repair shop in Escalation. Are we in a 24 situation where the longer than real time jumps between seasons would have put a 100 year old Jack Bauer on the moon if there'd been a season 9?

Finally got this! On the same day as RiD, which actually kind of ruins the lesser series. RiD is a highlight of the week, but it can't stand up to MTMTE. Loved the intrigue, the plague, the return of Fort Max (though I hoped it was Grimlock!) and First Aid's obsession with badges. Dialogue is getting a bit too thick at times--often clever but not always necessary--but it's a minor quibble. Lots of words also means the issue reads slow and well-worth the monthly installment instead of feeling like I've read 1/6th of a story that will eventually be a TPB.

So did I!

Awesome issue. Maybe the best so far? Hard to say, they've all been so damn good.

Yeah, this could very well be the best TF comics have been since I was a giddy little kid absorbing the early Budiansky run. And that was because I was a giddy little kid. This is because the writing is supreme.

Can't really find a weakness. If there is one, I might say too many reference to human-based issues. Then again, I'm not sure if "shapism" can be considered silly or just pure genius. McCarthy tried to insert a racist element into the story, but failed. If anyone can pull it off, its Roberts.

Here's to hoping things just keep getting better and better, and that somehow, MTMTE positively influences RID by association. RID has been declining (mentioning the whole Spike killed Constructicon line still bothers me), and I think Barber should start getting some pointers from Roche. Nick isn't busy writing TF right now, so why not ask for some friendly advice?

"A+" Keep it comin.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

Word!

I originally though "forged" and "cold constructed" were kind of odd concepts, but the notion that Ratchet's hands might actually work better because of the way they were made--that's cool! Makes for a kind of relevant social Darwinism amongst the TFs.
