IDW announces "The worst Transformers comic ever"

You may know them for critically acclaimed series like "Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye" or "Last Stand of the Wreckers", but IDW Publishing Chief Creative Officer/ Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall says you know the company for all the wrong reasons.

"Our company prides itself on producing bad Transformers brand comic books.", Ryall explained. "There's no better feeling than realizing your customers will buy your product for the name and pretty packaging alone, rather than for its quality of writing."

To get back to its modern roots, IDW announced today that it will produce the self-proclaimed "Worst Transformers Comic Ever", an ongoing starting in August this year. It will be set in the "Transformers: Animated" universe, but is intended to be a "soft-reboot". The book will be written by Mike Costa of "For All Mankind" infamy, illustrated by Dreamwave's superstar Pat Lee, and edited by Andy Schmidt. Michael Bay has also been tapped as a creative and humor consultant.

"We're really excited about this. We haven't orchistrated such a steep drop in quality since we fired Simon Furman and hired Shane McCarthy."

Ryall then went on to describe how in the book, resident badass Drift goes out in search of a legendary device of unknown purpose, hidden on Earth 5,000 years ago by the Mayans. Tagging along are hilarious sidekicks Skids and Mudflap. The heroic group will be followed by the Mechanic, a human villain from the 1980's, and he in turn will be followed by a division of the US Army led by Spike Witwicky.

In closing, Chris Ryall had this to say:

" We believe something is seriously wrong when your readers rush out to their local comic retailers to buy a book on release day. We want to take that stress out of people's lives, and keep their hard-earned money in their wallets."

Was that their April Fool? If so good show IDW - everyone likes a bit of self-depreciation.

Or do one big poo in the morning and another one in the afternoon. I bet they weren't even excited by and then subsequently disappointed by Star Wars Prequels. Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.
