What's the deal with the Vehicons in Transformers: Prime? There are a whole bunch of seemingly sentient (so they're not drones) Decepticons with all-but identical robot and vehicle modes.
I know the actual reason is something along the lines of "because it's easier to use the same animation model over and over again and because it allows for bots to get blown to hell in battle." But what I want is an in-story reason for them. Kind of like the biological explanation for why they couldn't fix Bumblebee's voice box and/or T-cog.
So, here's what I've got.
All Cybertronians (or, I guess, just Decepticons) start out as Vehicons and are later promoted (or upgraded) into unique bodies. Kind of like going from protoform to hatchling to unique Cybertronian.
The exact opposite. Cybertronians give up their unique identities to join the Decepticon/Vehicon rank and file.
