Transformers Zenith

A lot of people feel like the current standard of G1 comics represent a real low point for the license. Maybe even THE low point.
But what would you consider to be the zenith of Transformers comics. Let your opinion and reason be known! It could be an entire run, a slew of issues or even one mini.

UK comic from about issue 78 to 120.
US comic from about Primal Scream to End of the Road (though there's a couple of so so issues in there).
I'm reserving judgement on G2 until I read it again. I'm hoping it will be as good as I remember.
Not much since has come close I'm afraid. War Within had its moments, so did Infiltration and Escalation - but they weren't the zenith, oh no.

It's interesting since imo the comic high points don't necessarily correlate to the high points in the franchise as a whole. The comic is almost best when it's ignored and left to it's own devices.
I'd say the comic high point was late 80s; after Simon Furman hit his stride.
The toyline however I'd say has probably hit it about now. Good models coming out of Japan with some great designs, rather than the clunky early stuff from the late 70s and the plastic bricks from the 80s.
Slight tangent there, my appologies.

G2 is my favorite but I have to agree with Spidey. Highest ratio of originality, fun and sheer storytelling power. Some fantastic art as well from Senior, Wildman. Staz and Sullivan.

Or do one big poo in the morning and another one in the afternoon. I bet they weren't even excited by and then subsequently disappointed by Star Wars Prequels. Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.
Tangents welcome!Karl wrote:It's interesting since imo the comic high points don't necessarily correlate to the high points in the franchise as a whole. The comic is almost best when it's ignored and left to it's own devices.

I am so screwed for never having been able to read this. Everyone loves it and I never even saw it on stands in the town where I live!bumblemusprime wrote:G2 is my favorite but I have to agree with Spidey. Um... everywhere?
Titan trades are called Dark Designs and Rage in Heaven.
To get the related tie-ins in GI Joe/UK stories/"Ghosts" prelude, you'll have to look around for scans. But the main story is easily obtained through Amazon for 20-something bucks.

Uk T2006 - for me it's the pinnacle (zenith) it blended everything I wanted from TF.
It has a large dose of off world action, which allows my sic-fi mind to roam cybertron, mixed with the concept of future TF it allures to the 'what if' scenarios of my mind. When I first read it TF movie hadn't been released and so galley and co were unknowns, the private in joke about starscream was wonderful!
The cast is varied and with OP put of the picture, better off for it.
Not to mention the wreckers... They really opened up TF for me, the suggestion that what we see of TF on earth isn't the half of it, cybertron has so much to give, exotic alt modes, a TF pub and politics.
It's awesome, new and powerful in every way.
I could harp on about the art all day but I Galvy riding Magnus down the free way is ******* amazing, larger than life, death incarnate vs the paladin, ablaze!!! As u can tell, 25 years on I still thinks it's magnificent in all it's glory!
If I could wipe my mind to read it again fresh I would do it in an instant, and thus it's a poison chalice. I don't think the comic could hit this point again. it was the equivalent of "no Luke, I am your father" u can't pull that trick twice. Sure there are other great moments but none that made my young self dream so much...
'They were the dream'
They were and still are my dream, I'll read it later tonight before bed!

Really? That makes no sense to me as #1-#4 really weren't that bad, and I don't see how #24 can be included in any "Best of" List.Yaya wrote:For me, I would say Budiansky Marvel US #5 through #25.
That was like pure joy for me.
I would probably have to go with bumble and Spidey as far as Furman's Run (US) and G2. But if I were to whittle down Furman's Run into the PEAK of the peak, I would probably put it from 60-75, right after Megs and Ratchet blow up together and ending when Unicron gets Marix indigestion.

I loved #25, so I just included the span from #5-#25.Shanti418 wrote:Really? That makes no sense to me as #1-#4 really weren't that bad, and I don't see how #24 can be included in any "Best of" List.Yaya wrote:For me, I would say Budiansky Marvel US #5 through #25.

If I were to point out where I think it peaked for me, it was issues #7 through #19. Warrior School. Repeat Performance. Devestator! Prime trashes the entire Decepticon army after almost a year as a bobblehead. Return to Cybertron. Omega!
God, I loved those days.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.
