Roberts is writing the ongoing. Two issues for now, as what may be a fill-in for Costa, or perhaps a prelude to an ongoing gig, or a prelude to another writer like DnA or Simon taking on the ongoing?

Simon has apparently said he'd like to do a Marvel continuity comic--questions can be asked here:

Well how bout this, Bitchotron--apparently Costa has gone onto another board which is famous for bitching about TF fans. Which really doesn't mean much, especially since he said he's written a good six issues after James' fill-ins and we will never get rid of the guy. But nonetheless:Brendocon wrote:Do you even read the news forum?
Christ I'm bitchy this week.

If you are a Tfs comics fan, and you are critical of the ongoing, or you are one of those folks who just out and out admit that you want Costa off the book or whatever, then go over there RIGHT NOW and have a look at the thread this guy has taken part in.
Looks like we finally get a chance to see how much Costa really does respect us when he's bouncing around a thread like that, when he basically just never even shows up around here anymore, while he's over there cavorting with a bunch of people who refer to Tfs fans as a "bunch of dicks" and thanking them for enjoying his not-going.
(There are even posts about Ongoing being the best Tfs story ever. You can tell these are cape fans whose favorite characters get rebooted so often they dont even notice anymore.)
What a great place to drop the info on Chaos and the James Roberts thing, rather than right here where us actual tfs fans who have been buying these books in spite of their questionable quality tend to hang out. Seriously, this really serves to illustrate the attitude towards the fans held by the producers of these books right now.
You can almost feel the contempt for tfs fans on that board.

Tranformers fans are in general complete ******* morons.
Costa is ****, but, in general, Transformers fans are also complete ***** imo.
So, to summarise, the book's ****, the fans are *****.
Nothing else quite says "I am a grumpy old man who wants to punch IDW in the head."

Roberts is a co-plotter.
Essentially he's making sure that Costa doesn't cock up continuity too badly. He's not writing dialogue, he's just trying to save us from any more character abortions like Prowl's.
Andy gives the usual line here. He's a classy guy, but I have to take issue with the whole "if I fired Mike now, it would be as bad as letting Simon go..." No, dude, if you didn't bring Simon back, you would be compounding the problem. As you have been for the last three years.

As far as I can see, I'm the sort of fan they should want to win back.
I bought virtually every single Transformer comic between 1984 and the start of All Hail Megatron.
I'm obviously not the only one. And it means I don't take up space on forums criticising the new comic because I haven't read the thing. So what goes unsaid on the boards is as important as what is said. It's all well and good saying the reaction is 50/50, but that doesn't take into account those who dropped out long ago.
I'd love to start collecting again but I can't see it happening anytime soon.

This is, possibly, the most comic-happy TF board out there. If not everyone, then almost everyone is a fan of Transformers in comic book form. This has been the status quo for the decade-plus I've been here. I remember during the excellent 2nd and 3rd seasons of Beast Wars, the conversations would go something like this.
Some guy: That episode was great! I loved when so-and-so did such-and-such.
Some other guy: Yeah, it was almost as great as that issue of the comic when Galvatron did such-and-such to so-and-so.
Me: I don't remember that. When did that happen?
Some other guy: Back in, maybe, issue 290-something of the book. Not sure exactly. My copies are in a box in my parents loft.
Me: So, wait, the comic was different than the cartoon?
90% of the board: HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
We loved Furman's comics, tolerated Sarraccinni's comics, enjoyed Brad Mick's stuff right up until the info-dump that was V2 issue 6, dug the return of Furman (at DW and IDW), and, after all of that, stopped enjoying the series.
Think about that for a second. We didn't stop being Transformers fans. So it's not like we all just "grew-up" and moved on. We didn't get sick of comics. I know most of us still buy new books on a weekly basis and trades whenever possible. Many of us decided that, "yeah, we like Transformers, and we'll be at the comic book store anyway...but 4 bucks a month is more than we're willing to pay to continue reading these stories.
Memo to IDW: FIX THIS!!!
There are enough comic book-loving Transformers books to make the TF titles solid sellers UNTIL THE END OF TIME! Do NOT continue to drive away the fairly large base in favor gambling on attracting (temporary) new readers!

And I was the one who made that post over at Idw encouraging other readers to check out what Costa had to say to those guys on the board where Tfans were so disliked. I felt it was important to us, as a fan base, to know that this writer seems to have contempt for us. I also think his recent comments on the tfworld board interview reveal those fans who have asserted that he doesn't seem to even know most of these characters are indeed correct.
Idw has, IMO, brought Roberts on as damage control.

Oh dude. Stick around on this board and you will learn the true meaning of cranky old fan.Hook2 wrote:Wow. I can't believe I found a board where people are actually capable of criticizing what Idw is doing without a lynch mob of angry posters aping their every word!
Here's to you guys!
Also, Snarl might grope you in a dark corner.
Just a warning.

Add me to that list. If they weren't 4 bucks, maybe I'd buy the crap and tell you it was ice cream but it tasted like crap. But at that price, AHM was the end of the line. If someone (and this someone must be either English, Spencer, or OPR) on here told me that the comics stopped sucking, or that IDW just gave a s*** about their quality/what the fans think, I would happily jump back into it. Hell, I STILL feel guilty for not supporting the comic, just because I believe it's better than nothing.spiderfrommars wrote:As far as I can see, I'm the sort of fan they should want to win back.

But that is exactly what Idw are thinking at this point. Tfs is just another 10,000 copies sold a month because you will buy anything! I wonder if the next holder of this license is learning from this next. I hope so...Shanti418 wrote:Add me to that list. It's one of the perks of having spent ten years aggressively ripping the piss out of myopic fanboys... they've all ****** off and left us in peace.Hook2 wrote:OMG I am so excited! Of course the flipside is that half the fandom views us everything that's wrong with TF fans, but they're the people who liked All Hail Megatron, so we're really not that bothered.
Welcome to our jungle.
