Transformers Infestation #2 Review

So, crazy zombie women villian aside, this wasn't too bad.
I find it a sad commentary that Abnett and Lanning can write two issues of Transformers, and not even the main TF title at that, and reference more things from past IDW continuity than McCarthy and Costa can in their combined work to date. We get ample reference to Kup's history and the things Prowl set into motion with him.
The dialogue was very good, I thought, for the most part. Maybe a little out of character in some parts, but good enough.
And I'm actually excited about Heart of Darkness. Kind of like the way Abbning is writing the character of Galvatron.
Give it a "B-". Crazy ass story with some crazy time-warp/dimensional stuff that, as usual, doesn't make much sense, but enough fun for me. Certainly, better than the first issue.

"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.
IGN do not agree.

Interestingly GI Joe (by Costa & Gage) gets 9.0!!!

I can fully understand where that dude is coming from. If you weren't aware of the Kup/Prowl/Dead Universe past, this story was ******* awful.
A fan on the IDW boards made a good point, actually. And that is, it sucks that the card of Prowl controlling Kup has now been played, and in a way that made everyone, including Prime, aware of it. That pretty much flushes any potential of that plot point being used in the future down the toilet.
Couldn't Prowl have just simply used his 'link' with Kup and kept it private so Nick could use it later on?
When I think about it in this light, Abbning ****** over probably one of the more interesting happenings we've seen develop in the past two years.
And you gotta love the title to this IGN review. Pretty much sums up a lot of fans sentiments to IDW's TF comics in general, doesn't it?

i thought they were quite careful to do it in a way that the card had not been played - Prowl claimed it was due to the Pretender process that he could talk to Kup.
i quite enjoyed Infestation (on the TF side at least) - it wasn't the best thing ever but it was vaguely competent which is a distinct plus over the nongoing.

Missed that. Still, now Prime etal. know Prowl can control Kup. Which sucks.Best First wrote: Prowl claimed it was due to the Pretender process that he could talk to Kup.

Agree with BF - I thought it was rather brilliant the way Prowl nonchalantly explained himself as if it was an idea he'd just cooked up. Also generally enjoyed this two issue arc - a bit too much packed in, the time travel stuff in particular being a horrible contortion to get around the problem of a lack of a functional TF home world, but it had a real energy about it.
Kup weeping was one of the most genuinely touching bits of TF fiction for a long time, I thought. Roche is top notch at this kind of thing - I remember being similarly moved by Doubledealer's broken-faced smile at Hot Rod after being saved (the tricksy bastard!)
