My GOD!!! Are you people Transformers fans or not?
Of course the G1 eps were rubbish - it was 1984. They should at least be fondly remembered for making a toy line into a character line (along with the comic of course). How many actual characters (and I'm talking personality here) are in the most recent shows? Nope, I can't think of one either. It goes like this:
G1 Pre Movie: Could have been MUCH worse.
Movie: A better version of the cartoon, but not my a great deal.
Post Movie (S3): It's so BAD! (and not in a 'good' way).
Post Movie (S4: Headmasters): The ultimate toy advert.
Victory and other Jap stuff: Not seen alot of it so I can't comment. The Takara english dubs were AWFUL.
Beast Wars: Hated by many, but you never knew you had it so good at the time...
Beast Machines: The crown is slipping...
RID: Nice art and animation, characters losing - well - character. Oops! Here come those two-frames of transformation animation. Decepticons just a joke. Megatron sits on his ass all day.
Armada: It's got bloody kids in it. Grr. Saving the day? GRR!!!
Energon: PLEASE! TURN IT OFF!!!
Cybertron: Well, here's hoping...
Did I miss anything?

Never saw Masterforce. Beast Machines isn't really that bad, I suppose. It just monkeyed around with Primal's pesonality to much, if you'll excuse the pun. And the art style was kinda weird. And the transformations lere lacking. And the character designs were bugger-all like the early toy releases. And Nightscream looks like Micheal Jackson. Okay, perhaps I didn't like it too much, but it did reference G1 alot, so that's okay.
I wonder how the TF sparks felt when they were restored at the end of BM and discovered their pristine mechanical planet was now covered in salad? It'd be like you and me waking up one day to find the entire Earth permeated with gravy. I'd be out with the lawnmover quicksmart.

lots of cartoons made around that timehave aged fine. D & D, Ulysees 31 for example. Time of manufacture has nothing to do with quality.Autobloke wrote: Of course the G1 eps were rubbish - it was 1984.
Something both the tech specs and comics did better. so why bother. They should at least be fondly remembered for making a toy line into a character line (along with the comic of course)
i'm stuggling with how? Make them all pink?G1 Pre Movie: Could have been MUCH worse.

The Japanese g1 shows were pretty decent imho.
Headmasters: Liked the action, and the masters personality were correctly handled.
Masterforce: The least Tf like tf show, although you care for the characters and their motivations. Metalhawk transform!
Victory: A more intergalactic view of the war. Victory Saber!
Zone: Predaking in half. Dai Atlas transformation.

Comic was done in the 80's as well. Just while we're putting it out there stuff.Autobloke wrote:My GOD!!! Are you people Transformers fans or not?

I fondly remember the cartoon. Still doesn't mean it's not crap. It sucks, but I still like it... ...kind of the same situation microwave dinners.Autobloke wrote:They should at least be fondly remembered...

I never thought I'd see or hear anyone ever tell another person that.Autobloke wrote:And Brendocon? Don't be pedantic.
Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.
The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.

Wow... you asked for your pun to be excused.Autobloke wrote:And Brendocon? Don't be pedantic.
I observed that it wasn't actually a pun, therefore implying that excusing you isn't actually necessary.
Plus I used the "wink" posticon, which we humans use to denote humour. Observe:
In the cartoon, Megatron was a convincing villain with well-thought out and effective plans.
See? Humour.
I'm pedantic, yes, it's part of who I am, and I really don't appreciate people who waltz onto the board and tell me how to behave. Especially when I'm actually making a joke.
Grrr. Argh.

Hey, what's a discussion forum without a little fire?
Besides, I don't think I've come across a single comment about the G1 cartoon that implies anyone liked it very much, so how can everyone be so up in arms about a few honest opinions? If I really hated it then I wouldn't have seasons 1-4 on DVD or three different releases of the movie.
Yeah, the cartoons are a bit sub par, but I'm certainly NOT going to miss an episode of one if I can ever help it - and that's something I'm sure we can all agree on.
Also, I have to admit that my eyes pass over most of the emoticons without even noticing them, so if humour was meant I'm sorry it didn't register with me.
So chill people - I'm a TF fan - which makes us all brothers (or sisters) in this not so happy world we inhabit.

Yikes. Glad I didn't register the Mrs. for that!
Covenant: Sweetie, this is Best First. Don't mind the square head. You need to go with him for a bit.
Mrs. Covenant: ¿Qué es esto?
Covenant: Nothing, babygirl. I just signed you up for a little program, that's all.
Mrs. Covenant: ¡Ayúdeme!
