Preview for issue 9...

Post by snarl » Tue Jul 13, 2010 2:55 pm

So I spotted this on the IDW forum, and I agree with some of the guys there, who say basically...

FFS, it's just pictures, it's 4 ******* pages of pictures, you could limit that to one page and deliver the same message quite easily.

And there's this guy called Sol Magnus who is arguably an even bigger **** than that Matrix fella.

...

Dear Jim, please can you fix it for me to be a Dalek for a day, so I can kill with extreme prejudice vile earthling ***** like Matrix and Sol Magnus, who are wasting precious air.

...

Dear all, when was the last time you bought a TF comic, not including LSOTW?

I cannot believe this absolute mince is getting produced. It makes me quite angry, as do the raspberry's who think it's good. The ongoing is a prime example of a pamphlet for *****.

i love the way there is no preview for issue 9 in this topic

edit

i can see why some people are leaping so veciferously to the defence of this - no one can credibly argue that two panel's of Onslaught shooting some mud are anything other than pivotal.

I just looked at it again.

It is frankly... embarrassing.

How much work do you reckon the writer has done there? For 4 pages?

Page 1:

"woman, talking guff. You write it. Oh yeah, make it so that she's on the tele"

Pages 2 through 4

"Some Korean ***** walk about in a bush, a lorry drives up, shooting. They shoot at it, it transforms, there's some more shooting. Guido, draw it how ever the [composite word including 'f*ck'] you like. Put some details in to make it look like I gave a ****. Like some railings, maybe a tank. A base? Building(s) of some sort...?"

THIS IS DEEP, MATURE STUFF GUYS, DON'T BE HATERS - YOU COULDN'T DO ANY BETTER, LOL!

LOOK AT THE CHARACTERISATION!

There's something wonderfuly tasteless about IDW, a company whose TF comics even at their best tend to be frothy nonsense, trying to get all real world political with their stuff.

On the plus side, we now have one bonus if North Korea do go bat **** insane in the next few weeks and start a war, this comic will probably have to be pulped.

The fact that I'm in this thread speaks volumes about the certainty I have that I will not be spoiled by reading this preview due to the usual absence of story.

If I can read this issue in under five minutes, you just might see me banned from the IDW boards shortly thereafter.

After which I will return with the new alt ID KooKoo.

Wow, now I can read the previews without having to even bother to enlarge them. Thanks! You so helpful, IDW!

How long till they distill the Ongoing down to 22 splash pages of Transformation instruction scans?

SCRIPT - SPOTLIGHT BLUESILVERSTREAK / LONGTOOTH / SKY GARRY / ALAN / DELETE AS APPLICABLE

PAGE 1 - START

PAGES 2 - 21 - STEP 2-21 (Note - if there are less steps, just do some close ups. Or run some more ads)

PAGE 22 - FINISH

Well, that's the Spotlights for this year done. That should free up some of that complex editing time.

Any chance of a writing job?

Speaking of writing, I've been having serious thoughts about approaching IDW for the writing gig on the main title.

Seriously.

Which, given my complete lack of experience in writing comics is so very, very sad. And desparate. That I would think that I would be throwing out a life line to IDW by lending them my services is ridiculous. I never came close to having such fanciful ideas whilst reading DW.

I'm almost positive that some of us here could do a better job of it if put to the task. Jack. BF. Sprunklebeemus. With proper editors, we have good enough command of the English language, ample familiarity with the characters, and the experience as long time readers over the past twenty years to be able to churn out a competent TF comic that most fans would find appealing. All we would need is the time to dedicate to the project and a good editor. I firmly believe that. I've read some of your guys work and it is quite good.

If I got together in a room with the three of you, and we had three hours to just brainstorm and come up with ideas, we would come up with not one or two, but many ideas which would work better than what we have now.

Maybe what's lacking here is not competence from IDW, but dedication? Maybe they don't share the same passion for it, given they have so many other licenses to tend to?

I seem to remember Ryall & co going on about how the ongoing was going to be the most amazing Transformers comic of all time. They had not seen anything that good ever. Evereverever.

Which leads me to believe that I, fledgling writer though I may be, would never want those guys as my editors.

How did they get it so spectacularly wrong though?

I mean this time two years ago we all had massive stonking erections over IDW.

*******...

They got rid of someone who was in general pretty good at what he was doing, but maybe without bringing "spectacular" to every issue...

IDW without Furman is like Liverpool without Alonso.

Surely Denton was Rafa, with Ryall being George Gillett?

Roche and Roberts are Torres and Gerrard.

EJ Su is Yossi. No matter how good he is, he'll always get hauled off and replaced by Ngog.

The way I see it, it was a one-two combo.

1. Not letting Simon finish his story the way it was intended, rushing him through Revelations. I mean, the urgency with which IDW nixed his project, you would have thought they had the greatest story to tell set up and ready to go.

2. Handing a year's worth of TF comics over to an untested writer nobody has ever heard about in AHM.

This combo knocked the main comic down for the count. Though Costa has churned out some pretty awful stuff of late, I don't see his coming onto the title as devestating a blow to the title as the above two.

Saw some Yootoobs interview - apparently Costa has 'up till issue 50' planned out. 'Kay.

But as with Sunstreaker in AHM, or the end of Revalations, that may well be subject to change.

Kinda explains the slow burn...
