Bumblebee #4 Review (SPOILERS)

Post by Yaya » Wed Mar 10, 2010 11:38 pm

It's hard to be especially critical of something that takes you back to Man of Iron so convincingly.

So I'll say it this way. Had I been at the age I was when I actually read Man of Iron, I would have loved this. It's a simple story about the least likely Autobot taking on a role he isn't quite cut out for. It's nostalgically charming in it's own way, and for that it doesn't deserve a place amongst the TF/Avengers crossovers and Micromasters dregs of TF comic lore.

But it's also far from being worth the purchase price. The story is predictable with a capital "P". It's very old hat Marvel in it's plot, which at this stage of the game, isn't a good thing for the longtime TF comic reader, IMO.

However, I do feel it is important to recognize the incredible artwork of this series. Not just Chee, by Moose Baumann, the colorist, need to be recognized for the outstanding visuals here. Had it not been for their work on this, I probably wouldn't have found this series easy to swallow. So kudos to you guys for taking me back to the Man of Iron days here.

Give it a "C+", and give the series overall a "C-".

It's easy to be critical of **** stuff dude.

Just say it's ****. This is the interweb, HELLO! You can say whatever you like and nobody will ever do nuffink to you.

Look: Diana - dead, I laughed.

The only time you run into problems is when you say "I hate Jews" And are an arab.

Then Mossad would steal your passport, your identity, kill you, and claim it was suicide.

Which would still be mmmmmm, cause how do you put on a death certificate: cause of death - "suicide via krav maga"

It's a tricky one.

PS, Man of Iron is actually done very well. This is just a bit AIDS with similar pictures.

For me the comparison ends with the art.

IDW need to stop hiring ***** to write for them. Problems solved. It's not a ******* hard one it it?

I mean, if you have a brain - I think IDW do - it's not hard to notice that a lot of the stuff reads like ****...

And I don't buy the "It's for the kids" line. Unless kids are vacuous, thick, disinterested ***** in 2010.

Oh.

Well then may I be the first to petition for the release of Rose West?

So you're saying you didn't like it then? ;)

Yeah, you're right. That's the only thing that held me back though from lambasting this.

But alright. You win. It was ****. Tryin to be a nice guy, and snarlos brings out the demon in me.

I think it might be best to determine to which version of Man of Iron Yaya is referring.

Was it:
  1. UK #9-12 - original printing in b/w
  2. UK Collected Comics #3 - reprinted in full colour
  3. US #33-34 - shoddy reprint in terms of both ******-up colours and poorly copied lines
  4. Any subsequent reprint based on 1, 2
  5. Any subsequent reprint based on 3

I had CC 3.

It was boss.

It was the first ever TF comic I got.

It was quite odd though, I can remember it well...

I saw a TF comic in the newsagents and I nearly wet myself, and ran to find my mummy to ask if I could get it.

She said yes, so I went back to find it. I found it, but I was sure that the picture on the front was different to when I'd initially saw it about a minute earlier.

No matter, it was def a tf comic and I was getting it.

So I got it, and it was mint.

I've realised in later years that I must have had the CC version, because mine was full colour and had the story in its entirety. but when I was buying as many TF comics as my uni loan could afford, I bought MoI and it was half black and white, which wasn't how I remembered it.

And it also chimed in with me remembering that next week, I was surprised by my mum who bought me this badboy

and me thinking... hmm, this is great, but is it the same thing? I mean loads seems to have happened in one week and it just doesn't seem to relate that much to what was happening in the other story.

Oh well!

Yeah, CC3 sure has the fond memories.

I think I was given CC3 on my birthday, not so much for itself, but to placate me during the drive to where my new bike was waiting for me. Woo!

Not anywhere near my first TF comic, as I'd started acquiring them at the start of '86.

No more VW bug Bumblebee gets a major thumbs-down from me. Boo. Serious changes like this should only be made in serious comics!

Aye. Was that not the lamest ending to an already very lame series?

"Hey Bee, why don't you just get that super-duper upgrade in our super-duper upgrade room we've had out back all this time! Hell, I might just get one myself if I start feelin all small and insignificant."

Okay, that was annoying. I fecking hate Camaro Bee.

However, on the whole this series didn't bug me much.

I liked it better than Costa's series, that is for the shizzle.

Or do one big poo in the morning and another one in the afternoon. I bet they weren't even excited by and then subsequently disappointed by Star Wars Prequels. Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.
