Few tips on cool TF comics?

Post by Dylan » Sun Feb 07, 2010 7:35 pm

Hey folks,

Been some time, hope everyone's doing fine.

I was just browsing Amazon and saw a sweet TF Animated book that I might get. While I'm at it, I might as well pick up a few more TF related publications.

Which of the past five years ago are good? I saw stuff like Maximum Dinobots, War Within, Ail Hail Megatron and more.

I missed all TF comics completely, so I"m completely fresh.

Help a poor unenlightened soul please? Thanks!

From DW:

War and Peace and the ongoing
The first two War Within series
The More Than Meets the Eye profiles

From IDW:

Stormbringer

Shockwave and Kup Spotlights. The Metroplex Spotlight is a good one also, and crucial to upcoming storylines.
The Infiltration through Revelations story by Simon would also be pretty good to read in TPB form.
The current ongoing shows promise, as does the Last Stand of the Wreckers, but the jury is still out as they are both new

It might be best to forgo the DW stuff except for the profiles series, as you are likely to get confused reading material from both companies.

TBH I'd say none of the DW stuff is really worth picking up.

The IDW stuff is your best best. If you go for Infiltration, Escalation, Devastation, Revelation, Stormbringer, Maximum Dinobots and all of the collections of Spotlights then you will get a pretty damn cohesive set of stories and some stunning artwork by EJ Su.

However, make sure you ignore anything that's a crossover (Avengers etc) and avoid All Hail Megatron and especially Megatron Origins like the plague.

DW: War Within. Seriously, all modern TF flows from it. Dark Ages kicks ass too, especially when viewed as "What Furman would have done with G1 if he hadn't had to wrap it up."

IDW: Infltration is how TFs should always have been done. Stormbringer is the perfect companion. Avoid anything with "Megatron" in the name.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

I think WW was pretty average tbh and is in no way essential. The new origin for Prime is a massive step down from his original IMO.

Contrasted with Pat Lee of course it seemed amazing.

None of the DW stuff is essential because, uh, well, they don't exist.

I think when it comes to IDW, the essential stuff is all of Furman's and Roche's stuff. And the ongoing, if you want to stay with continuity.

AHM, M:O, Hearts of Steel, Bumblebee mini, TF/Avengers crossover, TF;Animated, TF Movie adaptation. All throw-away nonessentials.

Start with Infiltration, and if you like it, keep going. :)

Or do one big poo in the morning and another one in the afternoon. I bet they weren't even excited by and then subsequently disappointed by Star Wars Prequels. Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.
