I have lost all interest...

Over the last 25 years the Transformers have appeared in media from the exquisite to the scribbled and been licensed to the responsible and the... Pat Lee. Discussion of all the branches of TF media within!

I think it needs to be left for twentyfive years so there's some distance and then reimagined by Ron Moore.

Anyhoo...
I don't think its too much to expect something new to be done with TFs. While they have been around for quarter of a century there are many facets of them that have hardly been explored - in part i think because Hasbro don't want the brand straying too far from its roots
The only two real reasons I'm hopeful of this ongoing is 1)IDW has said they were surprised with what Hasbro allowed them to do this series and 2) Mike Costa is a bigger fan of TF than G.I.Joe and wrote some great stuff for G.I. Joe.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

Seriously though, I appreciate the love. But Don's still the man in my book. I'm just trying to do my own thing and I'm happy if people dig it.

As far as the content of this thread goes, I can understand people's frustrations, I really can. But I know some of what's coming, and I really think TF books are in very good hands with the creative teams in place right now. Time will tell how it will all be received, but I can say that I feel optimistic for the future.

I look forward to Optimus becoming Grace Park and Megatron Dean Stockwell.

I think a big part of the problem here is the typical overhype. So Ironhide's death is this big, shocking super amazing thing that needed special approval? Even if we're just talking about '84 characters who were on telly that means they're still forgetting Sunstreaker and Thundercracker, both this year. And from a purely IDW point of view Sunstreaker was a far more major and important leading character than Ironhide has been yet. Then you're into people like Nightbeat, Ramjet, all those Micromasters... It's enough to make me suspect the "Special permission" thing wasn't anything more than the normal approval process.

Isn't the 'special permission' business just speculation? I only skim-read the interview, but I thought the emphasis was placed firmly on: "Look - this will make a good story - we're starting them off on a really bad foot."

Kinda like revealing that Battlestar Galactica begins with the extermination of most of the human race, but less extreme.

From that point of view, fair enough - although I still think there's a muddled message here. They seem to be wanting to hook readers with a 'premise' for a story, but they're not revealing enough for it to really count as a premise - just enough for it to look like a stunt. I think the move would have found more favour if they came right out and described the whole set-up, then start with a double issue so that you have space to lay that premise down unhurriedly without the whole issue doing nothing more than that.

If one of the big problems with the comics industry - it's all promises, promises when it should be premises, premises.

Drift, apparently. According to Chris Ryall at least.

Frankly when DW died, I was glad and didn't even look back. I re-read MTMTE, TWW, Energon but overall I was glad I didn't see that issue where Optimus grieves over Elita's death. (shudder).

IDW's sudden appearance, with Furman at the helm no less, took me by surprise. I can't say Infiltration has blown me away, but it grew on me slowly, especially around issues 3-4. From then on, I was hooked.

And that's why it hurts that they took away this storyline. Sorry Yaya, but to me TF comics without Furman is like, Gargoyles without Greg Weisman. He pretty much breathed life into more then half of the characters, and as the past has shown us, without him the comic's storyline and plot just falls apart (remember Mad Brick and his leading-to-nowhere plot about Earth, Unicron, mysterious energon pools?) Simon can be blamed that he uses mystical plots, yes. But unlike AHM or others, you can have a pretty good idea he's going somewhere with it, and you will find that the outcome is both logical and entertaining.

So I'm this way with Costa - it's like when Hasbro cancelled Animated and told us we'd get a new series. Could the new series be good? Sure. It might even be better then Animated. But it's hard to view in a positive light when we haven't seen it and we have had to abandon a good series to get it.

Even with Skeletron faces?

Anyway, I hope your vote of confidence bears out, Casey. If not, the disciples of Furman will draw a ring of fire around you and chant, "It's Over. Finished." Keep drawing that good stuff.

After which they will then break out into a contradicting "It never ends" chant.

But what if I'm also one of the disciples of Furman? That will well and truly pose a problem... :)

Then you'll have to use your arty skills to draw the Disciples of Furman drawing a ring of fire around yourself and chanting "It's over - finished."

And then get BotCon to do it as an exclusive litho commemorating the occasion.

In the Ongoing TF comic, Optimus Prime resigns. 'Cause he thinks the Autobots caused too much harm to Earth, and instead of, you know, leaving the planet and trying to continue their fight against the Cons elsewhere, the best solution he can find is to turn him over to human autohorities...

This sounds almost as bad as what they did with Gargoyles in the "Goliath Chronicles" when there was a trial for Goliath. I feel the same way - the butchering of a great show/comic...

...and, y'know, other things that suggest appreciative and favourable opinions of the single-panelled page this article shows.

Loved this response from Antapp:
What a loada tosh.

BB, do you see everything in terms of Transformers or Gargoyles?

When you and your significant other have a fight, do you say, "God, this is just like Command Performances!"

I also quote Terry Prachett, am a Trekkie, and like D&D (2E, naturally). :ididit: Go figure out the rest. :)
