Trasfomers ROTF was awsome! (thats what i was like the whole time)
Eh? Are you for real? It was a shocking film. Bad humour, little to no plot, terrible pacing, boring action scenes, logic holes, rubbish transformers - ROTF had it all.
Couldn't believe it was the same team of writers who had helped reimagine the excellent star trek movie.

ROTF was a ****** diaster flick that thoroughly raped my childhood and quite honestly left a bad taste in my mouth for all things Transformers.
And it shouldn't, because it was Bayformers, but I'm having a hard time disassociating this movie from the thing that has given me so much joy over the years.
[composite word including 'f*ck'] you, Bay.

Interestingly, "awesome" and "awful" have the same root - "consisting of, or containing, awe", and so without any expansion by the author, do we really know if AutobotGirl liked or hated the film, beyond being in awe of it?Mr_Tigg wrote:Eh? Maybe you're just not fan enough to regard Transformers as your own personal property and therefore do not consider yourself to have the right to take affrontage at any deviation from the historic perspective of your all-consuming obsession.Brendocon wrote:That's exactly how I feel about All Hail Megatron. Apart from the "raped my childhood" part, because that's just melodramatic and my childhood consisted of more than TF.
Or maybe you just take all in your stride and are more moderate with your interests.

Beware: he will try to ensnare you with word games. Keep your wits about you and don't wish for more wishes.Reba wrote: Interestingly, "awesome" and "awful" have the same root - "consisting of, or containing, awe", and so without any expansion by the author, do we really know if AutobotGirl liked or hated the film, beyond being in awe of it?
Mine.... did not.Brendocon wrote: my childhood consisted of more than TF.
Actually, I think back to '84 and there was so much to love then. I was big into Star Wars, Michael Jackson, breakdancing, 80's music, tennis, Indiana Jones, etc.
But I really think that, of all those things, Transformers provided me the most fun.

I think both films respective ratings on rotten tomatoes summarise just which one was "full of crap humour" and an "assault on logic".Brendocon wrote:Star Trek was spectacularly mediocre and full of crap humour and assaults on logic too.
RotF was good fun. It's no Apocalypse Now, but anybody expecting it to be needs their head checking.
Don't get me started on RoTF, it was a mess of a movie.
I probably should apologise to Autobotgirl though. Nothing personal, just a combination of the fact that RoTF is a sore point and that Transfans is traditionally a place for complaining about what's wrong with the franchise!

I think I don't need to pay attention to the averaged opinion of People On The Internet to see that both films had massive plot holes and know which one made me laugh more.Mr_Tigg wrote:I think both films respective ratings on rotten tomatoes summarise just which one was "full of crap humour" and an "assault on logic".

Wellll, RT are top critics more than random net nerds... which counts for a little (not a lot) more.Brendocon wrote:I think I don't need to pay attention to the averaged opinion of People On The Internet to see that both films had massive plot holes and know which one made me laugh more.Mr_Tigg wrote:I think both films respective ratings on rotten tomatoes summarise just which one was "full of crap humour" and an "assault on logic".
Gotta say, I preferred Star Trek.

If that is now the debate then Star Trek all the way.
On a seperate note finally saw Watchmen and thought it was about as good as it could be, although it faded off a bit at the end (not the big change, more the little ones around it).
I think the important thing with ROTF is when i say i enjoyed it don't misconstrue that as me not understanding it was sh*t cos i do. It was an enjoyable sh*t. Don't tell me you haven't done one of those.

I probably enjoyed it more too, but the main crux of the argument is "can you believe these two films were scripted by the same people".Best First wrote:If that is now the debate then Star Trek all the way.
Which, from where I'm lounging seductively, is a definite "well, yeah."
Directorial and production differences aside, I've got no trouble believing the scripts shared a writing team. Naff science, too much humour that isn't really that funny, stilted relationship-related stuff. Present in both, sir. Main difference is that Trek had a different agenda as far as what gimmicks and plot devices to throw in.

I liked Watchmen... and the change at the end actually made sense. I'm holding out on buying the DVD tho, in case the Director's Cut is better.
The love scene was a little cringy tho...

I do get the impression with ST that they were at least trying tho.Brendocon wrote:I've got no trouble believing the scripts shared a writing team. As did I. Last week, in fact. And I actually thought it was good.Best First wrote: On a seperate note finally saw Watchmen .
The story has always been 'meh' with me. I liked it because I thought the visuals were very well done, as was the music. Almost like they were going for a Crow-like vibe, which was smart. The acting wasn't that bad either, actually.
Overall, I'd say it was a better movie than The Darknight, which has to be one of the most overrated movies in history.

Oh yes. Rehashing a much-loved-by-helpless-geeks plot is certainly going to get their creativity going a bit more than "plug teh toyz, here's teh explosion."spiderfrommars wrote:I do get the impression with ST that they were at least trying tho.
I thought Watchmen was serviceable. Solid and workable, but really spectacular, and I can't see myself having enjoyed it if I hadn't already read the book.
As Besty says, the smaller changes kinda made the whole climax fall a bit flat. But I've bemoaned that elsewhere. Thought some of the acting was shocking though, Adrian in specific.
Vaguely interested to see the director's cut of the film, but certainly can't see myself ever buying any version of the movie on DVD. If I want to revisit the story, I'll go and read the book... it doesn't have bits chopped out or changed, doesn't have wooden acting, doesn't have entire characters missing and dialogue attributed to the wrong characters, doesn't have a gratuitous "look at me" fight scene kicking things off and undermining the murder mystery the story is meant to unfold under the cover of... and doesn't have Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah thrown in for no discernable reason whatsococking ever when they bought the rights to the correct song anyway.

I hate it when someone else came up with great ideas such as robotic testicles. Especially there are no wrecking balls on any of the Constructicons!! BRILLIANT!!
