Funny thing is if you look at most TF polls for favorite bots, Prime is always #1 and Starscream, not Megs, is always #2 seems like.

Nice of you to say so. I'm completely untested at comic writing though. I had a crack at a half-spotlight - here - but as you'll be able to tell quite quickly, I've got too many words for panels. Not to mention I'm not much of an artist. I'm fairly confident I could do a better job than McCarthy on the writing if I practiced for a bit and devoted a lot of time to it, but I always tend to have other priorities.

I'd really like to write the Firecons though, particularly Sparkstalker. Really like the idea of a talented cryptographer/hacker being thrown in with two loonies.[/code]

I rather liked it. Don't slam your art; there are some really good shots in there. Wildman/Baskerville-esque, of the Unicron Saga variety. And something fishy going on with Bumblebee; nice twist. I'm trying to decide whether he ordered the weapon made that was too dreadful to use. (That was, by the way, the name of the first thing Isaac Asimov ever wrote--The Weapon Too Dreadful To Use.)

I've had problems with too many words on the page when writing comics as well--I think it's common for new comic writers to overestimate it. (Spotlight: Jazz has that problem in a few places.) My solutions have been to either chop the dialogue down, down down: ie, "I gotta keep an optic on you, Professor. I've been hearing worrying things about what goes on here, numbers not adding up where they should. They found pieces of a corpse floating in space" to: "I'm worried, Professor. I hear things about this place. About pieces of a corpse floating in space."

or

When you've got a page that is totally overcrowded, take Photoshop and split it into two pages, then draw the fill-in panels. Which is a pain in the tuchuss. And extends the comic, which means you have to cut other things.

Anyway, you shouldn't quit--you could do at least as well as SL: J. And I liked SL: J.

See, I think the problem with comics is that there are too few words, not too many.

Likely, it's really dependent on the artist, whether or not he or she effectively conveys what the writer is trying to produce.

The comics that seem to work well usually tend to be dialogue heavy though, like the Kup Spotlight.

Moreover, I think a dialogue heavy comic tends to feel less like a rip off because the experience lasts longer. At $3.99 a pop, I like to feel like I got my moneys worth.

Actually, I still think there's something of a decent community there. It's just a shame there's been this precedent set of overzealous policing so that a ranty post that should just be ignored or chuckled at instead results in half the board waiting eagerly to see the inevitable pile-in.

I met a few people from the IDW board today actually, for Furman's signing in Forbidden Planet. They were thoroughly likeable! Didn't take the board antics too seriously and generally on board with 'our side' about AHM. I meant to mention it over here, but the meet-up was a bit last minute. Maybe another one should be had when he does his Orbital signing?

Man, I just read this... and it ROCKS! You should be given a Spotlight to write, not the guys who wrote Jazz...

You have really gotten this one right - the air of mystery, WJ's determination and then the dreadful realization that he himself did it... And Dead End is a great choice for the Con prisoner here. (he's one of my personal favourites btw - when I was a kid, 20 or so years ago, I could muster up enough money to buy one of the Stunticons - I choose Dead End).

And... funny you should mention Sparkstalker and the Firecons. I have written a sort-of Spotlight of the little guy titled "The Con who wasn't there", who is one of my fav. Cons - it doesn't take place in any defined universe, and is sort of an "endgame" story anyway, like the UK annual story "Peace". I will have to translate it to english one day (it's in hungarian currently)will send it to you if you'r interested!
