Don't know if you guys have seen it, so here it is if you haven't.
Much like the first film the quality of the special FX are, all in all, mind blowing.
However, some of the designs are plain wrong. Ravage looks retarded for a start. The aesthetics of the first film has never quite grown on me - I would've preferred a 'less is more' approach, comparable to the CG used for Ironman's suit in his movie.
Awesome a spectacle as one wheeled huge decepticon is, it is still a daft idea to have a unicycle transformer. Rumour has it that it is either devastator himself or one individual constructicon (which would make devastator himself effin huge!)
Thoughts?
Oh and Jack Cade - before you start, remember criticism is welcome but only if it is backed up by coherent reasoning. Even then you will probably be lynched.

I'm just not excited by SFX anymore. Maybe the technology is moving along inch by inch, but as a layman, it doesn't feel to me like there's been any real improvement in 'realism' since Gollum. It all still screams 'action movie!' to me, rather than drawing me in, half-fooling me.
And it's just SFX really, isn't it?

My mistake, I don't go on the news forum often, and this is the movies section. I did think it was weird though how no one had commented on it yet.sprunkner wrote:same topic over in the News forum, if ya wanna combine.

Ravage looks like something Giger would dream up, and I am not quite fond of it... I bet if they made a Power Rangers movie, they would not demand to turn the Zords into monstrous robotic creatures because it's "more realistic". Oh wait... they DID make a PR movie...Brendocon wrote:Ravage looks awesome.

I can confirm that thing on wheels is NOT Devastator, just an excavator Constructicon (Scavenger?). I still cannot see how they currently known Bot roster could defeat the combined form of them... Omega or the Dinobots are nowhere to be seen.
And another retarded design is only visible in the HD version... apparently the three bots chasing the Audi Con (Barricade?) are Arcee(s)... she can split into three bots who have wheels for feet. What's with this weird "unicycle feet" fetish of the designers? It's like they have something against feet on the ground, like BM Megatron did...

Not forgiven. You are ordered to run on a treadmill and listen to Shane McCarthy Thundercats fanfic until you realize the consequences of what you've done.Mr_Tigg wrote:My mistake, I don't go on the news forum often, and this is the movies section. Sorry? Has McCarthy ruined thundercats now as well as transformers? Does he have a personal vendetta against 80s cartoons that have stood the test of time?sprunkner wrote:Not forgiven. I think its more like McCrathy is a disgruntled Batman writer whose story involving The Riddler was retconned out of existence.

Looks pretty much how I would expected (sadly?).
I wonder if the overwhelming amount of criticism the first film received will get Mr Bay to hold the camera steady for a few minute or two.
Why do I feel that’s hopeless wishful thinking?
My stance on the film is generally take what your given and try not to make to much eye contact.

Yep. There was a comment in this month's Empire from the GI Joe director saying that Transformers proved listening to bitching fans was a waste of time.
So TFs is actually noe being held up as a bench mark for proving that you don't need to listen to the hard core fan.
Which is probably fair as the hardcore fan is often too busy fighting with the hardcore fan over the way from him to make it to the cinema anyway.
Is it me or is the world basically getting more and more banal?

I find that if you spend most of your effort into enjoying the parts of your hobby that you like, instead dwelling on what you don't, the hobby is much more fun.
That goes for any hobby. Music, movies, porno, literature, anything.
Nothing kills my enjoyment of Transformers (for example) quicker than talking to a hardcore fan who seems to hate nearly everything about it.
'Twas why I had such a great time at BotCon '06. I hung out with a group of people who chatted about what we liked about TFs and pretty much ignored the rest.
If you hated the first movie, then why on Earth are you giving any thought to the second? It's a waste of your time and emotional energies. Go watch a DVD of the shows you liked. Pick up the new comic. Go hunt for some toys. Make an Ebay purchase. Write some Optimus Primal/Cheetor fanslash. Do whatever it is in the hobby that you enjoy and just ignore what you don't.
I can't fathom the mind of a person who thinks to himself, "Gee. I really thought the first movie was a pile of cack. I didn't like the story, the designs, the shakey cam, the toys, or the spin-off comics. I hated everything about the movie. Oh look. There's a thread about the movie. This is relevant to my interests."
Hobbies are supposed to be fun! That's why they're HOBBIES and not chores.

Which is way it's so much harder for me to read comic book threads in general or the ones here about latest IDW stuff and about Bay's movie in various places. My eyes hurt from going too much like this:Professor Smooth wrote:I can't fathom the mind of a person who thinks to himself, "Gee. I really thought the first movie was a pile of cack. Like, many people hate Jeph Loeb's writing. You'd think they just won't read it. No. They whine like they have nothing else to do (which I'm starting to think is true in some, if not in most cases). They whine for a ******* year before announced comic is published. They're all sure that it's going to suck like nothing ever did before. And after it's out? They go and buy it (or just read in store). And they whine again. And again. Until the next issue is released. And then it starts again. FFS.

To be fair, 'fandoms' are more about communities than hobbies. You stick with the crap stuff so that you can talk about it with other people who have the same interest as you. If the topic of the day is not for you, tough luck.
As far as 'listening to the fans' goes, I don't know why anyone, be they Michael Bay, IDW or whoever, thinks that the rule should be: 'listen to the fans who write to you because they're representative of the people who're buying your product'. That's just stupid. You listen to criticisms because *sometimes* they might be good, fair criticisms!
It's like when I spoke to Ryall, and said something like, "You must understand why people are disappointed that you appear to be curtailing the story they liked?" And he said, effectively, "Some people will be disappointed with everything we do, so what's the point in taking any notice of it?"
Sorry, but that's just stupid.

Because, maybe, being a transformers fan usually means wanting everything tf-related to be highest quality possible? Your kind of response makes me feel like it would be only appropriate for one to accept whatever Bay produces without a word of protest.Professor Smooth wrote: If you hated the first movie, then why on Earth are you giving any thought to the second?
Moreover, it's not like we're getting a new movie very often. On the contrary, tf-movie with a relatively high budget is a rather rare and unique thing. Therefore wasting the chance it gives to create a good peace of fiction can be taken calmly by none but few fans. That's the simple reason of great interest in the upcoming movie expressed by so many people in the fandom. It surprises me a bit that it isn't obvious.

Yeah, hobbies are supposed to be fun. And after the movie came out I left it alone and moved to other parts of the hobby. Trouble is... there is little nowadays that's left untouched from Transformers where I could 'retreat' and enjoy that part of the hobby...Professor Smooth wrote:I find that if you spend most of your effort into enjoying the parts of your hobby that you like, instead dwelling on what you don't, the hobby is much more fun.

-The Movie-verse is expanding more and more... toys, comics, most likely a new toon as well. It's hard to go to a forum and not to encounter it...
-After the Movie I kind of 'retreated' to what brought me to like TFs in the first place: Furman's comics. But now he's being pushed out of IDW. Half a year ago I had lots of comics to look forward to. Now it's only Maximum Dinobots. All the other comics I read from IDW just piss me off... I don't even read AHM on the day it gets torrented but days later... which is something I haven't done with TF comics in years.
-TF Animated was a breath of fresh air for me after the movie. I truly enjoyed it... but then came the huge hiatus between season 2 and 3. And now that S3 is coming (which is what keeps up my spirits) comes the crushing news that Marty Isenberg is fired and most likely the show will be cancelled... no doubt to make room for a Movie-verse cartoon...
-Toy collecting is still there for me. But other then the few Universe (Henkei) and Animated toys, I don't have much to look forward to this year due to RTOF. There is always G1, but not only did prices skyrocketed lately, the $ also became much more expensive... so I've had to give collecting the red light.
With these factors in mind, I oddly found myself thinking yesterday that I spend more (on the miniatures) and think more about D&D then about TFs... And that worries me. I still think of myself as a TF fan primarily, D&D and other stuff was only secondary to me a short while ago.....

Marty Isenberg wasn't actually fired. Before the "Marty has to clean out his desk" discussion topic at TFW was deleted at Marty's request, he emailed the topic starter and clarified that he actually works freelance, and CN was letting him borrow a desk. So he just lost a desk that wasn't really his, and was letting the TFW member know that the email address used to contact him for interviews wouldn't be around much longer.BB Shockwave wrote: And now that S3 is coming (which is what keeps up my spirits) comes the crushing news that Marty Isenberg is fired and most likely the show will be cancelled... no doubt to make room for a Movie-verse cartoon...

Thanks for the clarification - since the topic was deleted I could never know what the reason was.Hot Shot wrote:Marty Isenberg wasn't actually fired. But it doesn't matter much now, that S3 is officially the last...
